@HeadHipHop no matter how many times you comment, on any of the videos of Aron Ralston, you will NEVER, EVER be able to say you survived 6 days with 300 mL of water and very little food, almost dying from hypothermia, starvation and dehydration. OR that you cut your own arm off and then walked hours in the direct desert sun. STFU. okay? and btw, Aron doesn't consider himself a "hero" or an "inspiration". He knew he was reeeaally stupid for getting in that situation.
@Adam5Beast Ur so freakin full of crap, if you get your arm stuck in a canyon, by yourself, with no means to save yourself but to cut your arm off, lets see if u had the balls to do it. shut up about things u don't understand, this man did the hardest thing he could do, and was reborn in doing it. if u ever get trapped by something like this, don't ask for anyones help, because your just gonna have to suck it up, and get yourself out of it, that outta teach u how to respect your life and others.
:0 interesting to listen to his description of the trail he led, some via google earth! it adds to the story to see that spot there in ge; i reset my prefs to exaggerate the 3d land elevation by max 3 and it really makes the landscape so dangerously beautiful.
@qarapalida : Who cares ? James Franco did a a brilliant job, and anyway, no actor could have looked exactly like Ralston, unless he played in the movie himself. I personnaly think that Franco was a really good choice, his performance was amazing.
It's Desmond from Lost if he had a bad ass accent.... Still though Aron is the epitome of awesome in my eyes. I love how he still lives a life full of adventure, get off your couches people and get in nature!
i can tell you guys i've seen alot of "fuucked" up shit in my time and i really mean it..... but watching this video, listening to his account and the process he had to do to save his life just makes me feel so isolated and cold inside. I'm so inspired by his story knowing that he shows true determination of the will to live
@seanmcalindon92 well, i imagine the pain of cutting a numb arm is a lot of less painful than thirsty to death. Although you can realize this clearly in very early begining, you cann't do it until you really suffer badly from pain of dehaydration. That's why he waited to cut the arm until the last minite. although he knew his arm is dead long time ago. He was so afraid of losing his arm.
@uytfvbnmkoiuy His arm wasn't numb. His hand was numb. He had to break his arm twice, then cut through his entire arm, including his nerves. He explains his pain in another interview located here on youtube.
@uytfvbnmkoiuy He wasn't afraid of losing his arm. He was afraid of dying full stop. His arm was crushed from the wrist down. The part of the arm he amputated was fine so believe me it would have hurt like nothing you can ever imagine and hopefully never have to go through. But it was his determination to live that kept him awake when he had to do that and it was that determination that kept him going on the 7 mile journey to help after he'd cut off his arm. He's an unbelievable inspiration
@Hr75 I agree. I've had a trapped nerve once and that hurt like hell so to actually snap it must have been excruciating. If anyone deserved to survive an ordeal like that it was him.
yeah ofcourse his ribs or chest would of colapsed into his internal organs. But if both of his hands were stuck do you think he would of gnawed his arms off with his teeth...? lmao it's only a joke people chill...
imagine it pined both of his hands against the cannon, that would be fucking ridiculous. i guess he's kind of lucky in a sense that that didn't happen or even worse if the rock pined his torso against the cannon then he deffinatley would of been a dead man. This mans a true inspiration and just goes to show what humans can do (or do without) in order to surrvive...
i dont get it, kids in much worse places like the Congo or Kabul go through much worse on a daily basis and yet this guy gets accolades? The guy's got everything going for him, he has a mechanical engineering degree, is in an honor society and now he's famous yet how many thousands of kids, not just adults, kids go through life suffering more than he ever did. I just dont get it.
@southsydney He freaking amputated his own arm. HIS OWN ARM. With a pocket knife. His flesh had already started to decay, so he began cutting at it. Then he realized the blade wasn't sharp enough to cut through his bone, so he had to break his wrist. In two places. Then he began cutting again. I'm not saying there aren't any other horrible things in the world. But seriously, this guy is an inspiration. That's why he's so famous. How many people can do what he did and survive?
@biffen89 Yes, I definitely think he's an inspirationAND I foundHISbook and interviews very interesting! I thinkOMG! what this guy had to go through noone will ever know even reading the book.. cos unless you are the person in his shoes going through theExperience yourself no matterWhat you readAnd see onFilm, one will never be able to fully feel and understand his pain and lonlyness there and then. But still I think cutting off his arm was a last thing to do.. andHe has run out of choices
@Gambianka So are you stating you can cut off your arm with a knife then break your wrist twice in this situation without any help and survive? I'd need proof. I don't think i would be able to do what this man did.
@s0n1c619 But if you think about it, Aron didn't think he can do this either.. he tried and after first stub he got uncomfortable.. And also he didn't cut off his arm on the first or second day of being stuck.. he did it when it was the very last thing to do. I think we never know what we - the human beings- are capable of until we find ourselves in a particular situation. I think I'd probably do the same if I had nothing else to try.. whether I would survive that is a different issue...
@Gambianka yeah it's either die, or cut your arm off, best case scenario if you don't cut your arm off would be die.. may as well cut your arm off.. lol
@s0n1c619 sorry, I didn't have enough space to write more so I finish here in this message... as I was saying I don't know if I would survive cos I am not an experienced climber and it was great that he met the two tourists to get some help quicker than just him on his own.. I love his book and film.. and I truly think what he did is no doubt amazing and I am very glad he has survived. :-)
if u start counting there are billions of topics to start over ...
well talk of this guy... he just inspired us all how to "never give up" and for that "Fame" and "honor society" is just a small amount my dear.. talk of those poor kids ..they cant help themselves.. we have to come up for that dont we?
His documented footage is in a safety deposit box in some bank that only he and the movie producers of 127 hours have seen. But 127 hours is magnificent film and show what his footage was like
@jhodini the videos that he took are not open to the public. They've only been showed to his close friends and family. And because of the new movie Danny Boyle and James Franco got to see them too. They are kept in a bank vault to make sure they're kept safe
I understand he self-documented his epic survival with his own video camera. Does anyone know if the video (or portions of) is available for viewing in the public domain?
I tell everyone where I'm going after I saw 127 hours. In the movie, James Franco who played Ralston, admitted that he was a bit selfish for not telling anyone where he was going, and it's understandable that he didn't. Who doesn't want to get away from the world to get a little bit of fresh air? I'm sure if he knew what the outcome of his actions would have been though, im sure he would have drawn a detailed map of where he went and gave it to everyone he knew -_-
@bankypunk this guys a fucking punk. he's a selfish, egotistical prick, who told no one where he went, then he cut his arm off, wah wah, now he makes tons of money giving speeches about it, only in america
I've never seen anything remotely egotistical about the guy. He was out having fun, trying to live his life. Yeah, he should have told somebody where he was, but you've got to admit that cutting your own arm off is a testament to his will to live. Would you have had the courage to do what he did?
@bankypunk he does have a huge ego, he has turned his selfish act into a money making thing. maybe i guess you could call him clever, or street smart for that. but this guy was EXTREMELY SELFISH for going hiking in a remote place and not telling ANYONE. i have a few friends who do the same thing, and i always tell them that they are very selfish to do that, but they don't care, they keep doing it year after year
"absentminded" more than "selfish". Knowing him personally, it's not a habit of his to go hiking w/out telling anyone. He has NO ego! The last thing on his mind enduring this ordeal was money, & it's foolish to presume so! Based on your tone, IMHO your ego appears to be much bigger than his. He has a level of internal fortitude & integrity only very few are gifted with. It was only multiplied by his experience! U might benefit hearing him speak instead of "armchair QB'ing"!
@JohnnyCash08 do u have any sympathy for this guy i mean seriously his story is a inspiring story of survival and u see none of that u sir are a true youtube troll
@JohnnyCash08 he wasnt just some city guy when you read his bio hes been an outdoors man since he was little and hiked and rocked climbed for years it was just an accedent, if you got hit by a car people wouldnt be like serves you right for living in a city hope you learned your lesson and dont walk downtown any more
you didn't get my point. i grew up in a village in austria and everbody there knows that you never ever go into the wilderness without telling someone where you go. second rule is that you never go alone. the accident ralston had was very minor. just follow the rules and you keep your arm. what ralston did after the accident was very brave, i respect that. but most times there is no need for this when you just respect nature and follow some basic rules.
tell me specifically what you mean. i could go around making ad hominem attacks on people like you just did to me, but i don't because that's baseless and pathetic. either give me some facts here, or you're just talking shit.
i wonder how many times he had to retell the story. i admire him so much for having the courage to amputate his own arm. i honestly would have died there if i were him.
@salm37. After he cut off his arm he gingerly climbed out of the crevasse and walked 8 miles before being rescued. How he was rescued I don't know. On a different note, I actually think the title of this video is slightly insensitive, but my God, it made me laugh out loud! I wish I had thought of that.
I think anyone would be thinking differently after 5 days trapped than they would after 1... so no one really knows what they would do till it happens
Its all about whether you value life or not, and how much you value it.. Its not easy to let go of your right arm! But if getting back your life and your loved ones matters more, you gotta do what you gotta do.. Hats off to this guy !
I know i would've chickened out and gotten a cardiac arrest instantly !
Embarking on these high risk adventure trips on your own is asking for trouble. He was extremely fortunate he didn't die when that boulder fell on him.
@dykann123456789 really? is it a gift that i didn't die today? or yesterday? is it a gift i didn't contract AIDS today? is it a gift i didn't get hit by a car on the way home last night? is every second the Earth doesn't get hit by a cosmic ray a gift?
hey, when's your birthday? i'm gonna come to your house and cut your arm off, and then make you thank me for it.
@dykann123456789 ok but you see how that's ridiculous? if a hurricane destroys my house should i be happy i didn't die? should i be happy i didn't have a heart attack just now? should i be thankful every day a drunk driver doesn't run me over?
what about every day the planet isn't hit by a cosmic ray or a meteor? if i got cancer and they cut my dick off, but i still lived, should i be happy?
yea its good he lived, but overall, getting stuck and cutting your arm off probably sucks
@Robstailey you kinda should be thankful you dont die everyday....so i agree with most of your sarcasm...i dont really get your argument but im not gonna respond anymore cause i hate when the comments are all two people arguing.
my point is a guy almost died and was forced to saw his fucking arm off with a small, dull blade. that is fucking horrifying. to say he should be thankful for that is sick and masochistic.
if i asked you, right now, whether you would like to be put in a similar situation one day in you life, would you say yes? would you like to have to cut your own arm off? because that's what you said.
@sabdow listen here little boy, front up to me like that again and i'll cut your fuckin arm off you pussy . Your comments are retarded, i'm not the only one who thinks so, you talk shit, then freak like a mong. fuckin windowlicker, wipe your chin.
@sabdow just cos youve got ginger pubes dont take it out on me. i know you cant get girls cos they laugh at your tangerine candyfloss. try a prostitute... now that'd be a gift. Self high five!
I'd still choose cutting my arm off over spending 70 days in the Andes and eating my friends.

That's so typical for those guys from the large cities. Pure arrogance.
I hope he learnt his lesson otherwise he paid a high price for nothing.

@JohnnyCash08 do u have any sympathy for this guy i mean seriously his story is a inspiring story of survival and u see none of that u sir are a true youtube troll
donny273 1 year ago
@JohnnyCash08 he wasnt just some city guy when you read his bio hes been an outdoors man since he was little and hiked and rocked climbed for years it was just an accedent, if you got hit by a car people wouldnt be like serves you right for living in a city hope you learned your lesson and dont walk downtown any more

@redstreak59
you didn't get my point. i grew up in a village in austria and everbody there knows that you never ever go into the wilderness without telling someone where you go. second rule is that you never go alone. the accident ralston had was very minor. just follow the rules and you keep your arm. what ralston did after the accident was very brave, i respect that. but most times there is no need for this when you just respect nature and follow some basic rules.

"if this is how you often react"
tell me specifically what you mean. i could go around making ad hominem attacks on people like you just did to me, but i don't because that's baseless and pathetic. either give me some facts here, or you're just talking shit.

Aron tells WideWorld Magazine about the day that changed his life in Danny Boyle's new film 127 Hours - worth a read on the WideWorldMag website.

i wonder how many times he had to retell the story. i admire him so much for having the courage to amputate his own arm. i honestly would have died there if i were him.
SunBound28 1 year ago
@salm37. After he cut off his arm he gingerly climbed out of the crevasse and walked 8 miles before being rescued. How he was rescued I don't know. On a different note, I actually think the title of this video is slightly insensitive, but my God, it made me laugh out loud! I wish I had thought of that.

I want to know how far he had to go after he cut his arm off?.......and what happened after...did he drive to a hospital?
salm37 1 year ago
I think anyone would be thinking differently after 5 days trapped than they would after 1... so no one really knows what they would do till it happens

Its all about whether you value life or not, and how much you value it.. Its not easy to let go of your right arm! But if getting back your life and your loved ones matters more, you gotta do what you gotta do.. Hats off to this guy !
I know i would've chickened out and gotten a cardiac arrest instantly !

Robstailey 1 year ago
@Robstailey i think was a gift that he's not dead....
dykann123456789 1 year ago
@dykann123456789 really? is it a gift that i didn't die today? or yesterday? is it a gift i didn't contract AIDS today? is it a gift i didn't get hit by a car on the way home last night? is every second the Earth doesn't get hit by a cosmic ray a gift?
hey, when's your birthday? i'm gonna come to your house and cut your arm off, and then make you thank me for it.
Robstailey 1 year ago
@Robstailey are you going to kill me on my birthday?
dykann123456789 1 year ago
@dykann123456789
you said a man having to cut his own arm off was a gift. would you want that for your birthday?
i didn't think so.
Robstailey 1 year ago
@Robstailey i said him still being alive was a gift. that he didnt die out there.
dykann123456789 1 year ago
@dykann123456789 ok but you see how that's ridiculous? if a hurricane destroys my house should i be happy i didn't die? should i be happy i didn't have a heart attack just now? should i be thankful every day a drunk driver doesn't run me over?
what about every day the planet isn't hit by a cosmic ray or a meteor? if i got cancer and they cut my dick off, but i still lived, should i be happy?
yea its good he lived, but overall, getting stuck and cutting your arm off probably sucks
Robstailey 1 year ago
@Robstailey you kinda should be thankful you dont die everyday....so i agree with most of your sarcasm...i dont really get your argument but im not gonna respond anymore cause i hate when the comments are all two people arguing.
i respectfully disagree. good day to you sir
dykann123456789 1 year ago
@dykann123456789
my point is a guy almost died and was forced to saw his fucking arm off with a small, dull blade. that is fucking horrifying. to say he should be thankful for that is sick and masochistic.
if i asked you, right now, whether you would like to be put in a similar situation one day in you life, would you say yes? would you like to have to cut your own arm off? because that's what you said.
