  • Clicker control of the first Greek archer is appalling.

  • I just want to point out the elephant in the room, If they really claim to be skilled, then why are they using Anchoring systems and sights? I mean, if the really are skilled, then they should have no problem using a regular bow.

  • I can out shoot these guys with my hunting bow

  • @mannexx111 from 75 yards? You are a stud

  • @mannexx111 and i'm guessing you use a crutch...um i mean compound bow. But if you really do use a recurve, why haven't you signed up for qualifiers?

  • that first ukrainian guy has a really fucked anchoring system but hey it seems to work

  • theyd make all the deers in forest go OMG AHH RUN AWAY! lol

  • how many meters is this?

  • @katebeckinsale978

    I believe it's 70 meters

  • Why do these "compound vs. recurve" and "tradicional archery vs. modern archery" comments ALWAYS show up in archery videos? Why can't you people just watch the damn thing and keep your negative opinions to yourselves?!

  • Why does it matter what bow they use? They're still better than anyone else here anyways.

  • that's not possible there is necessarily a trick, a video editing this is not possible to have such a position that's scary to see...

  • no offense but they look like primary school students in those clothes

  • anyone think that the second guy has a rather smooshed face when aiming?

  • the smooshness is causing him to aim off. i think

  • at 1:18 u can see scars from bow cuts like that

  • they dont shoot compounds cause they only shoot recurve in the olympics

  • They mineaswell be compounds, seriously there have so much gear on them, wheres the blasted skill-.-

  • if your gonna have that much gear on your bow why not just shoot a compound. I hunt with a traditional recurve but i dont load it up like this

  • I use a compound and a trigger release but they probably use recurves maybe because they get more power control, instead of it being set like a compound. Also, you hunt? Man I wish I did... do you go to a hunting range or what? What's your distance and what kinda arrows you use?

  • only a stabilizer, clicker and sight is used. Its 3x easier with a compound/

The only other equipment allowed is a rest and plunger

You have a Traditional HUNTING recurve.. this is a modern target recurve. totally different discipline. Their targets are less than 6 and a half inch at 70 meters away. Your target will usually be under 25 yards.

  • lol Usain brae feet run and wrestlers naked huh? ;\) now that wold be...interesting if not the bad taste in u moth seeing usain horse-big dick swinging like manifest of the freedom of humanity soul :P but the dude is right -if we dont think prgressive then we woldnt be able to fly , drive our cars and fuck our wifes at the top at the sky scrapers :D i think traditions must be kept but also the progress shouldnt be stopped and i think any1 wold be agree with that am i wrong?1?

  • Olympic Archers using longbows would

be boring, They would just be a laugh,

    ex-centric gits.

  • Yes, I don,t play Golf because they don,t use wooden sticks and leather balls any more. The day golfers use wooden sticks

and leather balls is the day the game will become really impressive.

  • The day archers compete with traditional bows at the Olympics, is the day it will become really impressive.

  • Why do idiots keep coming out with this. If we all had your attitude we would still be in caves not wanting to go out side and expand and improve our selves and our lives. The equipment they use is the best we can have. Would you want pole vaulters to use wooden sticks? There is as much skill using modern equipment as there is using older equipment.

  • I'm not an idiot. I'm a traditional archer. And I like to see traditions kept. They are - as you say - using the best gear we have. I am against this. Especially at something like the Olympics that dates back some 1000 years, where there were no sights or stabilizers on the bows. Where archers didn't have to spend 10 minutes assembling the bow first.

  • So you would like to see Usain run in bare feet and see the wrestlers perfomr naked then? I would not disagree with traditional being added but not instead of. maybe formula 1 should go back to horse and cart?

  • Those are the worst comparisons I've ever heard. You seem to be all caught up with technology, so I'll just leave it here. Traditional archery is the thing for me, and it seems you're not into that.

  • I have nothing against traditional archery, Have you not seen me shooting my hungarian bow vids?, but your saying replace recurve with trad! Thats just a step backwards in my books. Have Id love to see al types in the olympics not just one.

  • Ah yes, now we're talking! And for the record, I'm not asking them to take a step back. I'm asking them to remove sights, stabilizers and all that. I've got nothing against a plain recurve.

  • @TYKKETYKKE you are idiot.

  • @KottLoom

    Brutal argumentary skills right there.

  • @MrRoyal there is nothing to argue we live in 21-st century, we dont need to lower ourselves down few thousand years.

  • @KottLoom

Or, perhaps, that is exactly what we need. But I know your type. You will probably never know about the wonders of old traditions.

  • @schme1440 yeah seriously, thats like saying wearing shoes or getting laser eye surgery is cheating

  • @schme1440 how much bows like this cost?

  • @KottLoom Really depends but that full setup would costs upwards of about 1500 If you include all accessories.

  • ok im not upset with the vid its great but wit these bows every one who could pull the string could easly hit anything today i went arching [im preaty sure thats not the term but who cares] with my dad in the backyard and i was fairly good for being 11 almost 12 it was just a compund bow and i was hiting the target i bet u take the lazers and !@#$ off theyed just be a regular guy who is ok at archery please check my channel if you agree just think about what i said

  • lets see you pull my fifty pound bow (im the same age as u) and get 2 inch groupings at forty yards...since u can do everything lets see u post a vid of that

  • ok i never said i could do that but still

  • these bows are very upgraded and stuff, but it doesnt make it that much easier...on my compound if my anchor point is off by a quarter of a sentimeter the whole shot is ruined...its still very hard

  • i understand that but its even herder without that stuff

  • How about you kids go argue about it somewhere else :P

  • @6stringdemon360...

You still misses at 30m or 15m if you are shooting the first time with those modern bows

  • i know but still i miss the sleekness of many bows

  • I really dont consider all the cables, gears and everything on bows now adays even cool, their soo ugly and bulky. I miss the old fashioned sleekness of bows...

  • correct me if i'm wrong, but ruban does not use finger sling? He won the olympic games without one...that shows: This crappy peace of rope is not necessary (?).

  • Is that why Simon Terry of GB just kicked his ass in Turkey?

  • Yeah that's it!

  • Legolas could headshot an orc from that distance without all that fancy equipment attached to his bow

  • they,re using finger slings golfer it helps to keep the bow steady and it causes the bow to curl further

  • a finger sling doesn't really hold the bow more steady, it's just so that the follow through (falling) of the bow after realease doesn't cause the bow to drop on the floor... i think...

  • It's simple. The sling prevents the bow from hitting the floor. An archer should never be holding the bow, when loosing the front hand drops away to prevent tourquing the bow left or right, up or down. Thats why the bow drops.

  • Wow those bows are like.....

  • y is it that every shot they take the bow drops after the shot?

  • greece basically got owned by ukraine...

  • Because their form is awful! hah, and the Uks own. Its so wierd the ukrainian style is so different from the rest, completely based on power and strength, seems to work for them though.

  • And they have the unusual technique of anchoring their thumb against the back of their neck, then moving their head to the string.

  • the blue dudes suck

  • lol...they were the greeks..they didnt do so weel against ukraine did they? =P

  • schme 1440, could u post a video of the archery men's gold medal match from beijing on?? thanx!

  • Lets go Viktor Ruban! lol =P

  • rofl his face at 4 26 ;lolol priceless

  • Chinese women's archery in the Olympics easily beat the Republic of Korea, South Korea refuse, what are the good show of the »

    한국을 거절, 그리고 중국의 실패!!!

  • Wooo hoooo Ukraine is the best!

  • Give me a "PIECE" of that Action

    P.S-By piece i mean cookie

  • Ukraine was killing!

  • does anyone know what distance is this?

  • 70 meters

  • what a terrible comment

  • Los Juegos Olimpicos son lo mejor.

  • greece may lose but still the best team.

  • take a look at theryer tekniuqe they suck !!

  • Not as much as your spelling.

  • sick burn

  • Look who is at the olympics out of you two.

  • they should have a bonus round where they play william tell.

  • congratulations, want a cookie?

  • YES! Give me the cookie please!

  • I WANT A COOKIE TOO!

  • You can always choose between Hoyt, Samick and W&W Archery, Those are the best for me, but a good bow doesn't make a good archer.

  • hoyt shooter 4 lyf! one of the best manufacturers in the world!

  • Hoyt just have a bigger portion of the Market. There are other companies out there that are better. This years world cup final was dominated by Win and Win. About 6 of 8 Shot Innos.

  • at the olympics only 70 meters. amazing ah?

  • Wait these guys are shooting at a traget 70 meters 3/4 american football field away ? It does not look that far in the video. Is that the only distance they shoot at ? or is it like track where they have several events with different distances ?

  • ok you gota be a bull to be able to control 56 pounds..omg i cant even imagine controling 46 pounds...and jet when you watch Barnes..looks like a toy in his hands ..i would have never guess that he pulls so much.

  • They make it lock so easy

  • hoyt looks like the bow of choice.

  • Not any more. Recent world cup finals there were 8 archers and 6 were shooting Win and Win Inno bows.

  • Ah. Really? I'll have to check them out.

  • How is this talentless?

Keep in mind that most of these people are shooting with 40-something pound bows.

Archery is all about endurance, concentration, and accuracy. I'd like to see you go shoot as many arrows as they do daily and still be able to lift your fucking shoulders.

And also keep in mind that Byron Ferguson doesn't shoot from these kind of distances.

  • Thank you! Someone who obviously knows what he is talking about and deserves to comment. Incidently they will be pulling near 50lb draw. The most I ever heard a top archer shoot was Dave Barnes who shoots or did shoot 56lb.

  • To do what they do takes a lot of talent and skill. This is the highest form of archery. Your comment is as good as saying you want to see Nascar use Ford T1's instead of modern bespoke Nascar racers. They are useing the most modern technology avaiable. If we all had your mentality we would be stuck in caves grunting in surprise at the sun.

  • I would disagree with this completely, he's simply saying to honor the old ways; not completely ignore this stuff altogether. A >110lbs Yew longbow is considerably harder to aim or shoot than composite recurves and thus require more skill. And since Olympiads are supposed to embody aspects of perfection of the human body its would be a little more legit.

  • The olympics is about the best athletes in the world performing at near perfect level's. To say they should use a long bow is like saying the bike riders should use pennyfathing bikes of wooden frames because its more of a challenge? The olympics is about being the best. Why make them use shite equipment?

  • well, go try one yourself. I'm quite sure you'll miss the 1mX1m target completely at even a quarter of that distance you'll see. shooting a gun? anyone can do it. at three times of this distance, it doesn't take a master sniper to point the thing and shoot, and still hit a 1mX1m target.

  • quagmire444, go tell an air pistol/air rifle shooter, no talent in this. I don't wanna see an ergonomically designed recoil reduced gun in your hands. Do that five-shots-in-one-hole using an old standard issue smith and wessons from the cowboys' era. i'd be surprised if they don't shoot you.

  • your a fucking retard, post a video of u shooting better, then you can talk

  • Have you uploaded the next rounds of Ukraine-Greece?

  • If its not in my profile list of vids then no. I cant remember my self. I dont think I did.

  • the first greece guy the sight is so high

    cannot be for shooting 70m

    or his nocking got problem?

  • well you must not know alot about target archery. ALL HEAD TO HEAD situations at major tournaments are shot at 70m

  • He must've been using a really heavy bow with a long draw, not at all uncommon hence the sight being high. The distance is in fact 70 meters, no doubt about that.

  • ARE THEY USING FALL AWAY ARROW RESTS?

  • No. Very uncommon on recurves. They are mostlikely using flipper rests.

  • what bows are they using? what bow length and draw weight?

  • I see hoyt elan, avalon. matrix. Each archer is either shooting 68 or 70 inch bow and most likely from 45 to 53 pounds draw weight.

  • the crowd would distract me big time... cheering me on like right b4 i shoot

  • when I shoot at the British Universities Team Champs (BUTC) we have spectators, and it's all on hit/miss targets, which makes it a lot more exciting to watch, I love having the support hehe

  • has anyone ever seen that thing where he hooks his thumb behind his neck before? does that help with referencing?

  • yes it helps him find his ancor point in order him to shoot more consistent

  • yeah, I understand that, I didn't actually phrase my question very well cos I was tired lol

what I meant to ask was about how it helped... is it more secure for example...

  • yes it can help him hold his bow back if he gets tired or the weight is too much for him

  • that sounds a bit dangerous... if he's getting tired and is using his thumb to hold it back then the tendancy is for the fingers to sneak forward leading to an inconsistant shot; can't say I can see an olympic archer doing that lol

  • It is another reference but as much as anything, it psychologically makes your bow 10 times easier to hold and it goes dead dead still.

  • Wait up I thought that in the olympics they used compound bows, i spose it is too easy wit a compound i prefer the recurve

  • very cool

  • how far they shooting from?

  • I believe olympic distance is 70m on an 80cm face

  • ignore my previous comment if it posts, it *is* 70m, but it's a 122cm face

  • is it really 122cm face? O_O

  • what language are they commentating in?

  • greek, the local language.

  • its a best sport at the world

  • What is that little metal peice that clinks at the tip right before he releases? I've never seen that in all my years.

  • it's called a clicker. helps to control the realease and ensure consistent drawing> takes some time to get used to shooting with one though!!!

  • Hey thanks a million! :) Might have to give one a try.

  • that's ok. it's important to realise that the clicker isn't a release indicator tho.you should be shooting about a year before you start shooting with 1. if you have acoach you should ask him/her for help with set up.:)

  • Here is a bow that could create an entirely new event in the olympics. Watch the video "shotbow" here on youtube. You will be amazed at the potential. I want one.

  • How can i train my arm so that it won't shake when i've pull the bow?

  • Thats poor positioning and oxygenation of the muscles. Take a breath before you draw and make sure you bring the weight onto the back

  • start with a lower draw weight?

  • don't use a heavy bow. Start off lighter and work your way up. That's what I did.

  • hmm, I think your having a very tight grip on your handle wich makes your muscles work alot more then they should, relax your arm and try not to "grab" the handlar like you grab a handlebar, if you do that the risk to get injured is much higher

  • 5 minutes, i see some target panic!!

  • I think he is just not that polished of an archer. If you watch his sight you will see that he starts out above the target, moves the head to allow the thumb access to the back of the neck, then the drops slightly and he is forced to bring the bow back up to his aim point. This is the difficulty in mastering the Ukrainian technique...

  • Victor Ruban (00:10) illustrates how one can move the head, and still maintain control of the bow during draw (watch the aperture). In contrast watch, Dmytro Hrachov's sight (02:40), very little adjustment of the sight position is needed at all, which means his shot is much more efficient than Karageorgiou's. Hrachov can spend the same time just aiming, that Karageorgiou spends getting his aperture in the right spot.

  • Great video, but really what are those left shoulder guards they always wear for? I've always wondered why competitive archers always wear those, since no part of the bow seems to touch their left shoulder. Is it for muscle support or something??

  • That is known as a chest gaurd. It prevents the string from tangleing up in your clothing which causes big problems

  • it with the string does get any influence byt the clothes so you know that even if it touchs you the release wont be affected by anything.i think...

  • My friend on the archery team and I laugh our asses off whenever we see that first guy anchor. We try to imitate him and just end up cracking up. But seriously, the guy's a damn good archer and so we just keep our mouths shut on criticizing him. We just laugh cuz it's so weird for us.

  • This is a common style in Eastern Europe. It involves the use of the thumb behind the neck. It allows for a rock-sold sight picture, but it is also hard to execute the shot properly. Some people have called this the Ukrainian technique or Ukrainian anchor. You should notice that one of the archers on the Greek team also utilizes this method.

  • so, like, do they still have a face anchor? it seems like that could be useful to have a more consistent anchor, and to have a solid sight picture. I find myself with a floating anchor point, so I appreciate your insight.

  • Yes the anchor is very solid, the rear sight picture is what benefits from this style. Everything else about the anchor is similar as far as contact points. The head movement is necessary for some in order to get the thumb behind the neck. Watch the video closely. There are not many westerners shoot this style, and even less are good at it. But when you try it even once you will see what I am talking about in terms of solid rear sight picture.

  • holy shit!, the 3rd ukrain archer that's shooting! he aims weird!, he could go way past his clicker, get distracted, shoot accidentaly, and miss!(seeing the fact that they're olympic archers they probly won't get distracted easily, but still..

  • For those of you not familiar with olympic archery... they are shooting at 90 meters...

  • Well your obviosly not familiar either. Its 70mts.

  • Fair enough.... its a long damn way...and the men's is apparently 90 (number I heard)... not many olympic style shooters around here...come on across the pond with your curved stick and us US boys will smoke you on some 3D shoots :-) Cheers.

  • The gents would be shooting 70mts. That is the official head to head distance for all disaplines.

  • lol, olympic distance= 70M, every regular archer knows that.

  • 90m is the maximum distance for men's individual competition. For the team rounds, they use 70m.

  • 90 meters has not been shot been shot since the introduction of the OR round in 1992.

  • Olympic archery elimination rounds are held at 70 meters for both sexes.

  • Oh wow, OK. Yeah, I'm definitely behind the times. I guess the rules for collegiate archery aren't the same as those for Olympic archery :S

  • we only shot 90m on FITA rounds (90-70-50-30 for men 70-60-50-30 for women

  • thts not good! there are a thousand more things that can go wrog with that technique!!! they shou'ld jus keep it simple!

  • good vid but i agree the shooting style is different but affective

  • their shooting style is very diffrent to what is tought in canada and the usa

  • Correct. But it obviously works for them.

  • But I definitely doesn't like it lol!

  • It's my first time seeing that kind of aiming, the Ukrainian one. ^^
