  • @Ih8TiffanyG Its called a gelding.

  • Who the heck would dislike this? It makes me angry, this is a memorial to the greatest racehorse that ever lived and someone dislikes it? God.

  • It would be cool if Secritariat and Ruffian raced eachother... haha.

  • A mare runs because she is leading her herd. Ruffian believed that she was leading her herd, there is no other reason she would have run so hard. Her trainer was an idiot.

  • @shilodance1st Ruffian was a filly, so she didnt worry about a herd yet & its not the trainers fault, he really didnt want her to race, its the greedy owners, media etc who thought the sport was dying & it sure did after this. The trainer looked after her all the way. Blame someone else.

  • The 1 person who disliked this bought an 'I'm for he' T-shirt

  • whoever disliked this is an idiot!

  • and the sport never recovered after Ruffian broke down. I have friends who were there that day when Ruffian broke down. Many people never went back to the track, nor did they ever watch another race. The destructive nature of human selfishness never surprises me.

  • @BreyerGirl25 the racing world doesn't know that, ruffian never raced against colts so she could have even been better than zenyatta

  • @SunsetBreyerLover that comment makes no sense at all. she never set a world record zenyatta did and still holds that record. i like ruffian but really? face the facts. Zenyatta ran against colts and fillies and beat everyone of them except blame. but blame beat zenyatta by a nose. ruffian races against fillies beat them but when it came to colts she lost. that proves zenyatta is the better horse. how is ruffian better than zenyatta if zenyatta won more races, beat more horses

  • whitley new there was something wrong if he spoke up she probably wouldn't

    have died that day

  • @SunsetBreyerLover nothing was wrong with her before the race. if you watched carefully you see her hit the gate coming out but by then it was to late to take her out of the race so no one is to blame.

  • @2taggs2 ruffian was the best race horse of all time, best horse that ever stepped foot on the track, how many horses do u no that won their first race by 15 lengths? If she hadn't bumped in the chute on the day of the match, she would have won that race

  • Comment removed

  • I just assumed Ruffian had raced colts before... This movie just shows me that she doesn't deserve to be one of the best all-time. Best Filly? Maybe. But I only consider great horses "great" if they prove themselves. All she did was beat other fillys - I'm not impressed.

  • I am sorry But when the owner said the sport was hurting How much did it hurt after her death? I imagine it hurt a lot.

  • Zenyatta beat ruffiasns time by alot. i know we didnt see her best but still you gotta say zenyatta beats her

  • @BreyerGirl25 She may have beat her currently BUT Ruffian was euthed before we even saw her best. I am sorry I place zen second to ruff

  • too bad she didn't make it to "when this is all over"

  • @AngelRawrify i agree with that also :)

  • the only horse racing owner i think is cool and nice is penny chenery "secretariats owner" she has class, elegance, heart, and most of all faith. she treated secretariat like he was her child. i only wish that ruffian had penny as her owner. RIP Ruffian

  • @MonikaCobain97.. you are right tht would be the biggest THE FASTEST HORSE EVER! and it would look Beautiful!

  • Fucking match race !! >.<

  • Imagine Secreteriats and Ruffians foal. I believe that would be the fastest horse EVER. *__*

  • @MonikaCobain97 Yeah- if Secretariat was a good sire yeah but unfortunately he's not. Everything is on the dams side (Ruffian). I'd say a Ruffian/ Northern Dancer cross would be wiser and that would have been a very expensive baby...

  • @MonikaCobain97 they couldn't have bred secretariat was her cousin :)

  • @MonikaCobain97 Perhaps. But it would also be inbreeding. :)

  • @MonikaCobain97 OMG..they could not breed!!!!! They are bred EXACTLY the same! They are too closley bred that the foal could probably bearly even walk let alone run!

  • just for you guys that say that horse racing is cruel i own a very large race horse farm i know when my horses arent fit to run and i dont let them start running in races until they are 3 or 4 years old so yes some people do know how to treat there horses others dont but all of my racing friends treat there horses the same way i do and i have riding since i was 2 years old.

  • And this is why i don't like race movies. I love horse racing though. we get to see the best of the best race it out to see who is best. But this is why the movies suck. it kills them.

  • @CatybelongstoJared that is why it is a fucking biography. have you seen the movie dreamer no horses die in that movie. dreamer is a racehorse movie too.

  • @afleetalgebra Please don't cuss at me. Thank you. Dreamer? Yes i have seen it. I love that movie infact. The horse is ingured therefore showing how dangerous the races can be. I never named movies or said ALL of them. Thanks for the feedback though.

  • @CatybelongstoJared sorry i love all horse movies hey you heard of the black stallion. isn't that a racing movie atleast because it has racing in it?

  • @afleetalgebra Yes. i do love that movie. I is a wonderful movie. i again never said anything about all racing movies. i said racing movies in general. there are some good ones.

  • "....it's just the pressure to have this match race, it's just......overwheleming!" It's called standing up and saying "HELL NO!!!" You wimp. You killed the best filly in the world because you weren't strong enough to say no. How's the pressure now?

  • @spequestrian so true

  • @spequestrian He didn't kill her. It could've happened in any race.

  • @spequestrian you retard ruffian was in perfect condition before the race what happened was if you use your fucking eyes you would cleary see ruffian hit her shoulder against the gate comming out but by then it would be too late to scratch her if the race has already started. you honestly no nothing did you fuckin watch the damn movie?

  • Supid owners yes they pay the money, but the trainers & jockeys no more about he horse than they do. Stupid arse. She could have lived abit longer.

  • I know what is coming in part 7, and I CANNOT believe I am still watching this movie, it nearly shattered my love of horses....

  • @TheGreatandLovable It shouldn't shatter your love for horses. It should shatter your love for horse racing.

  • 96 people against 1

1 person missed the like button...

AND IT IS CHANGEABLE to change your vote to ,,like'' -_-

  • People should have just bred ruffian and foolish pleasure to make the best race horse ever!

  • @templadoluver45 that would be awsome wonder what they wouldve named it? Foolish Ruffian perhaps?

  • FOR HER!!!!!!!!!!

  • everyone keeps talking about the trainer-but the jockey was the one who rode her through all those victories and probably knew her better than anyone!

  • @kristinturn89 totaly!

  • @kristinturn89 the jockey did ride her to the victories but the trainer knew ever thing about her knew what she wanted the jockey just ride her he didn't really have a lot of time to get to know her when he rode a bunch of horses

  • @kristinturn89 Yeah the trainer didnt want her to race. Blame the owners.

  • 7:19

    OMG SHEATH! XD

  • It's the racing world. Most people see the horses as machines. They run, and hopefully make their owners money. Every now and then there are the owners and trainers who care, but in the end it's all about the bottom line.

Besides these horses are racing when they turn 2. Horses, especially a 17hh beauty like Ruffian, isn't even close to being full grown or developed by then. Horses usually aren't done growing till they're five or six. And people wonder why they break down so young on the track.

  • Sad that all isn't done to help the equine. The media has to try and change things around.

  • D: You're selling out the life of a champion for a mere $400,000. To support the sport of horse racing. To beat a horse without a perfect record. Foolish greed and short lived fame cannot match the best racehorse whose death certificate you just signed when you agreed to race.

  • ruffian is buried on the tracks of belmont... with her nose on the finishing line.

    R.I.P ruffian <3

  • Greedy Corporate assholes.

  • I can't STAND that they stole her from her owner. I can't STAND it.

  • @whiteash002 NO ONE STOLE ANYTHING FROM ANYONE IN THIS MOVIE DID YOU NOT WATCH THE BEGGINING

  • @afleetalgebra Holy shit. I made that comment ONE YEAR AGO. Get the HELL over yourself!

  • @whiteash002 awww who is a little angry grump. could it be you?

  • @afleetalgebra ...is this honestly how you amuse yourself online? My comment. A year ago. How is this a hard concept? Please stop replying to me.

  • Why is everyone just using words like trainer or owner? There are bad owners & trainers on earth too. Ruffian was his lifestyle. Or even more. It´s too hard to type.

  • @CursedK9 why would you say that? Ruffian hurt herself because she changed leads wrong. How would anyone know that was going to happen? Her owners loved her just as much as her trainer.

  • @HorseDreamer262 There's some original frontal footage of the race on youtube somewhere. She broke her leg because she shied at birds that were sitting on the track and flew away when the horses were coming at them. You can see how she shies to the side and shifts her weight all too suddenly. Combined with the speed which heightened the force of the impact, it all makes sense why and how her leg shattered.

  • @XxemoxqueenxX also at the beginging of the race she hit her shoulder against the gate do you think that might have caused some of it too?

  • it was sad sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadaddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd

  • it was sad

  • if anyone dares to say that foolish pleasure was faster than ruffian i will slap them silly! no one person bares rights to say that!!! she was unable to finish the race, sooooo foolish pleasure and ruffian are equals! that is that!

  • @chivester2 Foolish Pleasure is NOT equal to her. AT all.

  • the owner only cared about money and winning....i love frank not the stupid owner

  • I am so glad that horse racing outlawed match races.

  • personaly, i think they should have taken it slower, start racing against colts that are not campions, instead of going strait to the campion, maybe we would have some children from her

  • you can tell that this horse....if you look around 7 min through....it is a male...NOT a female....kinda weird...but yanno...what can ya do...a male horse playing a female part...really funny :P

  • @Shilara haha good one gender mistake any horselover wold have seen that!

  • Frank White was one of those extremely rare trainers that come along so seldom that really understood the horse itself. He always knew, that although Ruffian was great, and that she was a champion without doubt, that a match-race was not in her best interest, at all. He knew it, deep down in his bones he knew it. The rest of the story is nothing but tragic history. The tragic history of a champion filly pushed beyond the brink. Remind you of any owners with a certain filly these days?

  • @GBeret83, my apologies. I typed my response in such a hurry that I inadvertently called Frank Whiteley, Frank White. That's what I get for posting without proof reading. LOL.

  • @GBeret83 I agree with you, I have never herd of her before this movie. I am in love with this horse and this movie!

  • does anyone know exactly how many hands Ruffian was??

  • @mickeymouseluvaz I think that she was almost 17 hands.

  • @hunterjumper70 Thanks!!!

  • It seems that her owner sees her as a money maker, as most horse owners in that business do. Frank sees her as some thing special, unique. Not just another horse.

  • I believe when she exited and hit into that gate all her weight shifted to one side injurying the foot. then running and with the added pressure it just couldn't hold anymore and it just cracked the joint causing the bones to rub and explode out. it's very tragic. the only other horse i have seen this happen to was GO FOR WAND ... she had heart as ruffian did ... rip ruffian

  • @kiter30 I was there that day when I was eight years old for Go For Wand. It was AWFUL. Two other horses also collapsed that day. I think a horse named Mr. Nicklaus and some other horse collided in the back stretch of a different race. A brutal day for a kid who loves horses.

  • @larkin78 things lately been so terrible with the racehorses. sometimes i am scared to watch a race in fear that a horse would go down and i would have to witness it. i love horses and can't bear watching them hurt. its awful when all they try to do is please the people that own them

  • i cant watch the whole movie it makes me so mad that her owners let this happen with everything Frank told them.

  • Nice movie

  • Well really , when a racehorse is going 22 in the first quarter and then just misses a step , just a stumble, it ends up beeing tragic.

  • She broke it because she missed a step.

The gate problem didn't help though.

  • It was the gate... She stood at one second 45 degrees from FP, her head was turn on other side... All that weight on her right leg... She felt pain but she keep on going...

That can't be seen in the movie...

  • If you want to know my opinion we may never know why Ruffian broke down,it could have just as easily been a bad step that caused her to break a leg,it happens..(ie Go For Wand and Barbaro)

  • it wasnt caused by one thing , the injury might of already started and just snapped fully durring the race.

  • I'm done with that shit that "she spooked from pigoens" thats bull. THERE WERE NONE. Stop making excuses. Its terribly sad what happened. I love horses, but hate racing. It was an internal thing, you can't say "I think my horse will break her leg today" you can't judge that. No one knew that it would happen to her.

  • Ruffian reminds me of a horse i used to know. Only he was a gelding. And a standardbred, but same diff. I had something with him, that no one i knew understood, and then he broke his leg,i healed him myself, and his owner still sold him. he wasnt mine, but he might as well have been..

  • Ruffian would obviously win!

  • the trainer was more than a trainer. he was more like her owner AND trainer. everyone cared for her but he cared about her the most. that filly was like his life and the people that wanted a freakin match race stole her away from him.

  • @horsez411 It´s exactly like by Princess Diana: a death just for the reporters, for an official report, and for the stupid guys who need a match race. Whatever is so interesting on dead legends, it´s holy sh*it.

  • Its so sad she only lived to be 3 years old she died very young

  • If it werent for the owners and wanting to run in the match race we would still have had the best filly ever and we would have babies. No one horse has been able to compete with her.

  • we would have babies IF SHE WAS FERTILE

i don't think we ever found out.

not all mares can have babies

  • the owner wasnt too happy about running her soo dont blame it on them.. what happened made racing safer nowadays because they put pading on the gates now. she just hit the gate coming out and later her leg shattered

  • @masterchiefluver and if she hadn't broken down in the match race, she could have broken down in her next race.or broken a leg in the pasture like her daddy did. Breakdowns are a sad part of racing, but they happen.and it sucks when they do.RIP Ruffian

  • @masterchiefluver I agree, they shouldn't have run her. Some people might disagree, but I'll always think that she never should have ran that day.
