I am a pucca Maharashtrain Deshastha Brahmin working in Bangalore or Mumbai. If I decide to settle there with a Marathi wife, so after say 20 years will my children be kannadi? No. But for ur info, I learned speaking Kannada fluently , Tamil in patches, there in 8 months. Why cant people who live for generations in Mumbai speak 2 words in Marathi?

Same is true in the case of Rajnikanth(Shivaji Rao Gaekwad ) , who is a Maharashtrian brought up in Karnataka , settled and worshipped in Tamil Nadu as Super Star . He could have become Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu if he wanted .He is comfortable with Kannada and Tamil, can also speak Telugu. Unfortunately he does not know Marathi , his Mother Tongue .
