Stockton was a was in my opinion the best point guard ever. He never did win an NBA title but so many great players in the late 1980's as rookies all though the 1998 season fantastic players.. Stockton and Malone GOT ROBBED of an NBA title by the REFS. Karl Malone even says this in his retirement. He said that a ref came up to him TWO YEARS after the 98 Finals in a pre -season game and said "Karl I am sorry I cost you a shot at a championship! This is in the DVD. Stockton to Malone best ever!
Stockton is one of the smartest players of all time. It was a sad, sad day when retired from the NBA. He truly was a coach's dream.
I thought that was neat when the Sacramento crowd gave him a standing ovation at the end of his final game. They know class and greatness when they see it.

John was the best PG ever. I was lucky enough to be at the 97 and 98 finals and watch some of the best playoff basketball ever. There is no player that will ever compare to John Stockton...keep in mind this is a guy that never had an AGENT. That is something that is unheard of but Larry Miller and him had a relationship like no other employee owner can have. We miss Larry and surely miss John. Hopefully someday he makes acoaching stop in Utah alongside Hornacek. Thanks for the memories John!!
Man I was lucky enough to see Stockton play when I was a kid in the Salt Palace ... Wish we had those days now! There will never be another like him ... ever! Who can you honestly say gives everything he has for every minute of every game and kept it up for 20 years? pay attention to the angles of some of the passes. the camera doesn't do it justice. I always thought he was a dirty player on defense... but his court vision and passing accuracy was legendaryg. There were a handful of players that could dominate a game with 0 points. He was one of them.

the points dirk gets you cant even get credit for his points because once he catches the ball he holds it and pivots for 8 to 10 seconds.. stockton just ran fast down the court and dished to a big man that was probably just as faast as him
I agree with you in the fact that in today's game, defense is dying. On that one clip where they showed Stockton and Payton, I was thinking man, if only we can have gritty guard defenders like them again.
Stockton is the reason Malone is second all time in scoring. Without a great distributor you get nothing. My hat goes off to Stockton who took it like a man not winning a championship and would rather have it like that than to hop a bandwagon with a team that he didn't give 19 years of blood, sweat and tears with.
Michael Jordan robbed many deserving players of championships. If Jordan was not in the league, Barkley, Karl, Stockton, Reggie, would all have had championships. A very hard to win when the greatest is racking up championships like its nobody's business.

i love that clip at the end, when he's checking out of the game. if i'm not mistaken, that was the closing game of the 02 Playoffs against Sacramento. those are Sacramento fans giving John a standing ovation. it was his final game, and the opposing team's fans showed the class to recognize one of the greatest ever checking out for the last time. and whats better is that they did not know he was done, they just respected him that much.
In my opinion, John is the best pg ever. A lot of people go for Magic, who I admire too, but in regard to PG position, John is incomparable. Terrific dribbling, passing, court vision and leadership, great shooting skills, defence and open court speed. He also has the durability you can count on for the whole season.
John Stockton is and will be for a long long if not, all time. leader in steals and assists, Karl Malone is second all-time in career points, There is a conection, behind every great scorer, there is a great, humble assister. The same applies with Kareem and Magic.
Stockton sucks, I saw him at Costco so I asked him for his autograph and he said, "I really don't want to start that." ... whatever Stockton, you shoot funny anyway.

Jason Kidd sucks, and I don't know why you are comparing Kidd to someone like Stockton.
Now Steve Nash, he is as creative, if not better with his passing as Stockton is.
And it was a different time back then, now the league is filled with so many athletic people, its not easy to get 15 assists per game.

Stockton is the reason Malone is second all time in scoring. Without a great distributor you get nothing. My hat goes off to Stockton who took it like a man not winning a championship and would rather have it like that than to hop a bandwagon with a team that he didn't give 19 years of blood, sweat and tears with.

Michael Jordan robbed many deserving players of championships. If Jordan was not in the league, Barkley, Karl, Stockton, Reggie, would all have had championships. A very hard to win when the greatest is racking up championships like its nobody's business.

Stockton was superb. He excelled at every aspect of the game, was the consummate team player, and used his mental skills to get the maximum out of his physical talents. He is sorely missed.

i love that clip at the end, when he's checking out of the game. if i'm not mistaken, that was the closing game of the 02 Playoffs against Sacramento. those are Sacramento fans giving John a standing ovation. it was his final game, and the opposing team's fans showed the class to recognize one of the greatest ever checking out for the last time. and whats better is that they did not know he was done, they just respected him that much.

In my opinion, John is the best pg ever. A lot of people go for Magic, who I admire too, but in regard to PG position, John is incomparable. Terrific dribbling, passing, court vision and leadership, great shooting skills, defence and open court speed. He also has the durability you can count on for the whole season.

John Stockton is and will be for a long long if not, all time. leader in steals and assists, Karl Malone is second all-time in career points, There is a conection, behind every great scorer, there is a great, humble assister. The same applies with Kareem and Magic.

If MJ was playing today, Kobe and all these guys would not have any rings. Stockton could have got a ring if he would've followed Malone to the Lakers. Then he could run point and not G.Payton. How they didn't win it that year baffles me. I guess they had too many superstars and weren't comfortable playing together. Stockton's my favorite player and always will be. A real class act, role model, hall of famer, and legend! Thanks #12

@jlh6310 They didn't win because Malone struggled all year (came back in the playoffs though) and Payton was butting heads with Phil Jackson. Because he didn't like playing in the triangle offense!!!
