-MC Serch and Vanilla started performing at the same year.

Through 1985-1989 he was performing in all-black clubs in South Dallas and Miami, opening up for N.W.A., Ice-T, MC Hammer, Stetasonic and EPMD. He then signed with EMI and they cleaned up his image to cross the album with pop audience. That's it. He wasn't made up and the songs were his. His first album, Hooked, was released independently.

He was still playing to sold out crowds during his worldwide tour in 92-93 but because he was no longer willing to market himself in the way the studio wanted, they stopped managing him (Eminem is famous because he has Public Relations people making media decisions), Ice stopped using those people after he didn't like what he was doing and he's done underground music (his music) since then and still does to this day.
