Hey! Great lesson, thanks. However, now that I have the first part down, could you post a video on how to play the chorus? It sounds a little different than the intro. Also, if the verse is any different from the intro, that'd be awesome, too! I learned it better watchin' you than from reading any tabs! Once again, great work!
@DilboFTW No, I'm playing it differently, not wrong. Think outside of the box, don't be a clone. Play any song the way that is most comfortable for you. Don't get trapped into thinking you have to play it the way the original guy plays it.
@glxblt :o) I actually learned the song first without actually watching him play it. Then realised a while later he played it differently.... nowadays I just can't be arsed to change. :o)
@BooTheGhost52 I use Warwick Red Labels, been playing for 20 years now and tried them all, Rotosounds, Elites, Fenders, Trace Elliotts, D'addarios..... the list goes on.... The Warwicks are superb... and really cheap too !! About £8-9 a set from Thomann.
Thank you for this, it's very helpful! I've worked out that in your slow demonstration there is one too many notes - when you move from the D back to the A string, you only need to play the open A once that time, then it's all making sense and in time. If you listen to the whole riff you can see what I mean. Great stuff though! :)
AWWWW RIGHT!!! i learned this by ear last night and wanted to check if i was correct. i was trying to play over the E chord with an open E string in the bass. you're lesson just cleared me up!!! thank you, that was perfect!!!
@ShowstopperV2 everyone has their own style....the fact is that he nailed the notes...why should u care?...if u prefer playing it on the A...then play it there...no1s stopping u
@far0n bet you can play better than these pricks that obviously watched your vid to learn it yet they just give you stick for it. Pathetic. Fair play to you mate.
Here's a tip that might help people who can't *quite* get it 100% accurate at normal speed. Get a metronome at set it to about 100 bpm (the actual song is about 93 bpm). Try playing it at 100 bpm and keep repeating the opening riff until you can get almost all of the notes. After that, turn the metronome back down to about 93 (my metronome only has 92) and you may find that the riff is much easier to play, and you can play it almost flawlessly.
I play the part on the E string a bit different, but never mind that. :)
I think you can make the A string part easier if you don't slide back all the way for the lowest note (I think it's a D), but automatically put your hand into a new position and not change it whilst playing the F-E-D-E part with three fingers on the left hand, not just two. :)
But that's just what I found easier... Keep it up. ;)
oi! looks like the way you play it is a lot easier than the way i've been learning. on the second part of the riff (E string) my tab had me jumping back and forth between E and A on the 10th and 12th frets so no notes went past the 12th fret. while it makes sense when thinking about how the notes are organized, it's really hard to go E0 A10 A0 E12 A0 A10 A10 E12 A10 A12 My fingers always trip up and end up playing them in the wrong order, never thought of shifting all those notes onto the E.
You helped confirm the tab I found. Thanks for the breakdown. Hey ZanderPlace....I'm 48!! Started a year and a half ago....You have your whole life...GO FOR IT!
thanks learned the song in 3 days. Not the whole 3 days... 2 hours a day the first part on the E string i learned it in 20 mins. the Second part took me roughly an hour and a half. which is on the A strong the third part on the D string took me roughly 10-20 mins. i learned the song. at first i was slow. then learned to go faster... when i put a cover of the bass for this song i found out that...... i was playing too fast... w/e just sharing my experience

I can Play it less then 5 minutes in GUITAR & about 5 HRS in Bass Guitar , Cos I'm Not a Bassist.
I Have Only a Little advice ...
[IMO] Perhaps when You Playin "E", I think it's "G" you can try play it in 10th fret [3rd strings].so you don't need to hit the "13th" fret
But Nice TutoriaL OveraLL ...Thanx
