My London...Catford

Catford was an OK place to grow up in back in the 60's and 70's but it's pretty grim there now. I always thought the cat was really tacky, and anyway, the name Catford has nothing to do with felines.

The area got the name because cattle used to cross the River Ravensbourne there. Cat+ford.

The 'Cat' in Catford refers to 'Cattle' the name meaning a place where Cattle Cross a River, in this case the Ravensbourne. Cattle forded the river at this point.
