My rats are too smart for that :( they know I am giving it, so i put the ball in a glass, they take the ball i give them food, then i put ball back and they come to me for more. :(
=( no matter what i do my rat does not take any treats of my hand only when his in his cage but the good thing is he doesnt bite he licks instead my rat zack is a wierd rat
Hi Paul! That was So good....You are a brilliant teacher :-) The music fitted the task perfectly. My fat boy Bubble(he resembles a hovercraft) puts his ball into his food bowl all the time; No matter how many times I take it out.... <:3( )~~
Haha :). My boys cover all food bowls with shredded paper, even if the bowl is no where near the bed they drag it there and arrange on top ... curious behaviour indeed lol.
They're just little plastic balls that i drilled holes into for grip ... you can get the balls with holes already in though - most likely to find them in sport shops as they are sold as "practice balls" for golf players :)
Treats are exactly what they say, just "treats" so not all the time. For training i'd reccomend just 5 minutes a day and break any treats up small so you don't over treat. No need to train everyday either, its good to give the rats lots of variety
The two males here are a year and 4 months ish. And yeah they really do dwarf my girls. Girls are always a lot smaller than boys but these are big boys too :)
They will but not often. I've never needed to litter train them or anything because they're actually very good but it is possible. Ratties will tend to pee and poop through fear a little too so if you've only recently got your ratties then give them time to settle in a little and it should get a lot better :)
Its a plastic ball from a kids play golf set. And then i driled some holes in it and cleared away and loose bits so it was safe for them. You can buy ones with holes already in but i had a hard time locating one
What an awesome trick to teach! I'm definitely going to have to try that one... I just love Whiskey & Womble :D Right now I'm teaching my little guy to weave in & out of little mini orange cones...he's catching on pretty quickly. I'll try & get a video. But now I know what I'm gonna teach him next... Thanks for another great video!
Aw hehe :) thanks :) ... glad you enjoyed the video. Good luck with the training. The tunnel fetch is pretty simple for the critters to pick up so lots of fun :)
Lol love this video..mini dogs. I wish I had the time and petience to teach my 5 girlies these tricks. I went down to the beach and filled their cage with driftwood today, it was heaven for them hehe
Girls are much harder to train than boys, mostly due to their extra energy. Worth keeping at it though :). Thanks for watching :) and let me know if i can help at all
Best to experiment around a bit and find some treats that you're ratties really love. Try any of the rodent bagged treats from pet stores but break them up lots so that you can train without over treating. You could also try tiny bits of veg like brocolli etc. :)
So cute. Again another well done video. I like the way he looks at you like, "Again, I have to do it again?" and tries to wrestle the ball from you. Again, what sweeties they are.
Yeah lol ... the ball wrestling unfortunately followed a bad throw of mine which didn't make it down the tunnel so Whiskey was taking advnantage of me being rubbish lol
Thanks :). Girls will get training, but its always best to leave it until after they have formed a really good bond with you. There has to be lots of trust there first :), they've made heaps of progress but aren't ready for training yet :)
Yeah this one is Whiskey's trick, not taught Womble it to be honest. They haven't chewed the tunnels as much as you'd think, the bad one you see has been passed down from through a generation :)
Chocolate is ok in very small amounts but best not to give it that often, its really not good for them in larger amounts. Yogies are trully loved lol. Easiest bet is to take a quick trip to the pet store and find some bagged treats and just make sure they're broken up before training :)
my rats are very picky. and plus the nearest pet store (which is a crap one) is a 1hour drive away. i use half a square of hersheys chocolate, frozen to be able to cut it, between 2 rats. if im out of chocolate or candy, i use DRIED BANANA. try dried banana. rats go mad for it, and its hard and crunchy, so good for their teeth.

Any pet store treat (broken up into small bits) is fine. Break it down as much as possible to avoid over-treating whilst training. Other things like small bits of brocolli etc are all fine and much loved too :)
this doesnt have anything to do with the vid but do you know where to get coconut ropes that u can put in your ratties cages?

i find that a small piece of dark or milk chocolate is a perfect treat. if not, use yogies. rats love yogies.(youghurt drops)
rats will love anything you love. ann small sweet is great. just not too much of it though...
