Kidding, will Justin's visit turn the luck around on the Maple Leafs?

Thank you again JS. Love your lessons & your CD.

    Happy Holidays (O)===#

  • Just had the pleasure of meeting Justin in Toronto.Had a great lesson and learned a coupel of great tips one being on strumming.See you next year Justin

  • eww tremolo picking sounds terrible

  • HOLY SHIT! and I just found out that I can Tremolo pick now after learning strumming techniques from this video.... ahahaha yessss!!!!, after months and months of trying to learn!!!! thank you Justin!...now its time to go play some fuckin Battery by Metallica \m/

  • this was the most useful guitar video that I ever seen on this website...I been looking at strumming videos for months and none help me...this was the first.

  • Part 7:39 - 8:50. Basically, what is suggested is that doing 4 times down - up is somehow "less pacey" than doing 8 times downstroke at the same tempo (in terms of the listeners). I disagree on that. I mean, yes, you have increased volume (deliberately I would say) by strumming harder, and yes, you are moving your hand twice as fast, but to the listener the effect remains the same. You have to play some upstrokes as well, so the audience can hear that the rhythm is doubled.

  • Hey Justin you are a great guy and a wonderful teacher. Thanks for all the free lessons. If you came to India and stood for prime minister i'd vote for you in a heartbeat. Anyway who would want to be the prime minister of a country like india? So i guess i'd just have to say God Bless you abundantly may your new album be a really big hit and may you achieve all that you dream of.

  • @ticotorrent Does being a Good Guitar Tutor qualify to for Indian Loksabha Elections? you are too crazy for such a comment buddy, please don't belittle your own nation, praise him but not at the cost of India

  • justin please do stret spirit

  • Ok people, I have purchased this complete DVD. I can guarantee you that my name before was, mr robot. I totally sucked major ass at strumming chords while I could play solo's and so. After I purchased this and followed these steps of this 2 hour DVD of Justin I got rid of my robot nickname and arm. I got rid of the UP DOWN UP like strumming way. I can now listen and hear the strumming patern and play along on hearing. This DVD is really worth it.

  • hey is that 16 note in a bar kind of thing as its played in coldplay 'sceintist'.. it sounded as if it was..

  • Sorry Justin...too much talking...too few examples. I really had to be patient to get through it.

  • wow strings are spaced really wide on his guitar

  • Been playing about 6 months now and i find myself bothered with my strumming. The high e string seems to create too high sound when i'm upstroking and also sometimes when is downstroking fast. Is it because i have been playing only so little while that my angle is a bit bad or do i leave too much of the pick out between my fingers? Or is it just my guitars sound?

  • propecia my friend. Its saved my hair. Idk if uve heard of it but it works great!

  • is this Angus Young?

  • lol justin uses a different guitar in every video!!! awesome.

  • :( where's the animal at the end? D:

  • great teacher, im learning how to play guitar directly from you.

  • i use the same pick haha :)

  • Thank you for demo-ing your videos. You're a great teacher too. I love you!

  • thanks J

  • Tnx man!!!

  • Tnx man!!!

  • Tnx man!!!

  • He is a real teacher!

  • come on man....too much speaking...!!!

  • are you some kind of idiot?

  • I use that pik!!

  • Just ordered the DVD. I stumbled over myself when I found out that for me it's cheaper then when I had lived in America. As a European I'm mostly screwed up but Justin lives in England, so the packaging is cheaper :D Looking really forward to the DVD. I always have a robot-like strumming hand, I can play the hell out of some solo's, but it's too embarassing that I can't strum songs properly. Hopefully this is going to help me, I'm sure it will because Justin is the best! Jeee-haww!

  • nice dude !

  • Lol that end piece reminds me of a snow patrol song :P (chasing cars)

  • @Owz600

Reminds me of the song Yellow by Coldplay for some reason=)

  • I'm trying to listen and learn but it's hard with such a sexy teacher. My mind would wander off too much if I had this video!

  • justin is the american hero.....i saw the last tg

  • please watch this amazing gentleman justineguitar on five news .

  • Excellent teacher as always....

  • hey justin, if you read this, you really should do some keb mo stuff, like life is beautiful, angelina, one friend and all that good stuff, because i can't find any tabs for them and you are a GREAT teacher

  • You Could post lessons of Your Own Songs, I'd Apreciate

  • I can't work out if this DVD will be too easy for me or not...

  • A really good guitar

  • What are you using to make your guitar sound like that

  • If you still wanna know, it's the guitar itself and the microphone, I'm guessing.

  • Great video, loving the F 'n C etc.

  • Justin, I'm interested in buying this DVD for my father but I can't find where to purchase it on your somewhat expansive web page.

  • that was much easier to learn than any other video for this song

  • do you have to make it always funny???, lol, thank you very much!

  • you're cute

  • lols for the 16th note for e+a do u strum it in the center or what?? then the rest of the notes across the strings? ur hand is moving fast...

  • im sorry dued but the 8th notes and 16th note strums ur doin sound the same ur sopsoss to say one e and a twoe and a three and a foure kinda like in All my loving -The beatles

  • very good jobs... justin... thanx

  • Hmmm I am considering buying this one. I am having a problem with strumming while singing, will this DVD help me with that? I am worried it may be too basic for me as I have basic strumming down, just having trouble singing along!

  • I also use same tortex picks - they are great! Thank you, Justin for these great vids.

  • The best picks i've ever used for acoustic and electric are called "Snarling dog brain picks" they have the best grip i've felt on any brand before and they're all i use now. I recommend them for everybody.

  • Yeah one of my friends gave me one and I got hooked on'em as well. If I use something else it just feels awkward.

  • wow, I use the same tortex pics, though I use mine for electric, but I like my pics soft for electric for some reason its more comfy. Either way I really appreciate the vids you put up here justin, when I was first starting out your vids helped my out, now im on alot more complicated stuff, but you helped take my playing up a big notch.

  • Hi justin, Your course is great, the way you teach. How can I buy your product without paying by paypal and credit card?

    Thanks! SuperDambar

  • I've always heard that lighter, thinner picks are more ideal for electric guitars because the strings a lot thinner. But I guess you should play whatever you feel comfortable with.

  • hey, im a fan of urs now for about 2 months and my bday is coming up and im wanting a electric guitar. i have a blue fade to black acoustic new york pro guitar. and im wanting to buy an electric guitar thats in the price range of u.s. dollars of about 200$ . which kinda electric guitar should i get cause the things u play on ur electric guitars are the songs im wanting to play but its hard with acoustic. so please write me back and give me the heads up on which kinda guitar i should get. thanx

  • A good guitar that also has good quality is a fender stratocaster made in mexico (MIM). I think it costs 500$, but it's worth it. If you want a cheap guitar you can buy a squirecaster, but i won't recommend it. I'll say buy a used mim stratocaster. Probably 300-400 dollars

  • could you play?

Bruce Dickinson - Tears Of The dragon

it's a really good song manly finger picking through out the song

so it should be easy to pick up

  • Justin!, I was trying to send you a message but you block that feature......

well, i was wondering if you have a lesson for Santeria by Sublime.... I'm dying to learn that song, ...

    hopefully you get this message..

    thanks

    -Kenn

  • lol

  • and can u have a lesson that explains cage system

  • its on the website go check it out it wast good !

  • i want u to know i appreciate u so much plzz dont stop teachin its effecting alot of people

  • I live almost religiously by the Jazz III

it's a good solid pick that works for electric guitar better than any other pick I have ever tried. You are right though, it's definately not a good acoustic pick.

    Good video!

  • Same here, although I recently started using the jim dunlop stubby, twice as thick as the jazz 3.

  • lol he is handsome and good at teaching

    and i am a guy

    lol

  • Justin... you are a fantastic teacher! 10/10

  • This kind of technique is really useful when you start playing alot of harder stuff, because it's very easy to keep the same tempo when using this as a mentronome. I'm glad I learned this pretty early when I started to play the guitar.

  • This video seems to have a really lot of information that I would really like to be able to hear and see. Nor sure why but after a bit into the lesson, you start getting choppy which is very hard to concentrate and get the meanings that you are trying to put out.

  • TEACH DOUBLE STRUMMING!!!

  • thank you so much for making these videos im a beginer and ive learned more in the last couple of hours than i have since i got my guitar

  • you resemble to matt roberts of 3 doors down.

Its just that you don't have the beard ..hehe.

  • hey can you learn Aneurysm by nirvana please and other nirvana songs thanks write back

  • dima wa3arr

  • I've been playing guitar for about 30 years & teaching for about 10.

Really impressed with your teaching style, & would definitely recommend your vids to anyone learning or improving their guitar style/techniques.

I use a lot of fingerstyle mixed up with percussive techniques in my playing. If you want to see how this can really fill out a basic 4 chord tune, check out my vid 'Oh No'.

Combine the right hand rhythm with hammer-ons on the chords & things can start to get pretty interesting.

  • i got exactly that donlod pick you have :D

  • Me too. same color n everything lol

  • i luv u justin!!

u taught me everythinh i kno on ur website and imma take it up n skool too

    keep bn great!!

  • your finger nails remind me of my old guitar teacher. he use to wear plastic nails for strumming/finger picking guitar. i think it was more pain than reward though.

  • smart video, this is the kinda stuff people should always remember when playing guitar.

  • Great exlanation, really understand now.

    Ty ^^

  • *Explanation. lol

  • omg das is ja nur was für richtige anfänger :D

  • who is that outside?

  • i prefer the vynil picks, and i cant imagine playin with a pcik that hard, i find it too hard to play fast solos and all, i use dunlop vynil medium ish thickness, (the light frey ones i dont remember what the thickness is)

  • same

  • thats too funny i have exactly that orange dunlop .60mm it was a trial and error of finding it and the orange was just easy to find if i sit it down somewhere, i never thought about it but i guess it is my fav acoustic pick for arpeggiating and strumming

  • i use the red one...haha idk the mm it rubbed off

  • lol i use that light one when i play electric guitar

  • nice guitar MAN .

  • Mercury is ALIVE:D

  • LOL at 3:50

  • thnx for yoru lessons justin, they've all helped me very much.

    You're the man

  • u dnt look lyk a chink

  • lOl this is the 4000th youtube video i have watched =D

    rock on justin

  • sounds like your playin yellow by coldplay at the end lol, good lesson bro, i wish i had a credit card so i could buy your lessons, your really good at teaching

  • Yeah, I think he did so as well, but he said he couldn't play songs so he just played that chord. :D

  • man your a good teacher

  • Hey Justin :) So does the new DVD show up/down patterns for strumming? I could use instruction on when to use ups/downs, and how to vary rhythm during songs. I'm wondering whether I could learn that from the new DVD? Also, Brian May of QUEEN mentions on his personal blog website that you have GOOD LESSONS!!!!??? (*I am more jealous of you than ever, LOL : >~

  • RUST ! :D

  • I am happy that I ordered this DVD. It has not yet arrived but your promo looks great.

  • Thanks for the lesson! You rock!

  • As useful as every bit of Justin's teaching. Man, I got more confident about learning guitar since I found his beginners lessons...

  • Very nice

  • actually it sounds more like yellow... but that is in a funny tuning, it is just C to Csus4... ;)

And I can't put songs on it because it would be infringing copyright. But there is lots to learn and your ears will help you use the patterns in songs!!

    Thanks dudes and dudettes :)

  • Scientist? He's just playing C to Csus4. That doesn't really make it a certain song to play a variation of one chord.

  • yeah hes playin the start of the scientist:P my favorite band coldplay!! viva la vida an death ......

  • i mean say*

  • haha i love the way you sat "dvd!" :)

  • Justin is brilliant I've learnt so much just by following his website thank you so much

  • Justin RULES. I LOVE his style of teaching. Listen to what he tells you and you WILL learn or get better! No doubt about it.

  • Right On!

  • HAHA, he was playing the beginning to the scientist, but he can't say it because its in an official DVD :p

  • Hey Justin, it is a very useful video, but originally hand moves by strum playing, not the whole arm. It would be quite difficult to play funky by arm. :) I often forget it too. :)

  • even though it's only a demo, still some very useful tips. thanxx :)

  • really useful video. thanks justin

  • Who's the little bald headed bloke sitting in front of you in the middle of the vid?

  • I think it's he's knee ...('-_-)

  • is that a cannabis leaf on the 15th fret?

  • definitely looks like a spade....

  • justin we have the same pick! the jazz 3, it's great! :)

  • He was probably going to play Yellow by Coldplay, he started to go into it a little bit.

  • well thanx for the help

  • Hmm out of curiousity.. why aren't you allowed to play any songs (7:30)?

  • most likely due to copyright law, and royalties for the songs... fair use doesn't really cover teaching, so it would not be fair use I'd suppose to play actual songs, and he'd have to pay artists to use their songs in his DVD... that's what I'm guessing...

  • Ah yeah that.. actually makes perfect sense now that I think about it. I feel kind of silly now haha. I bet that's probably why he has his song lessons on a separate non-partner channel too.

  • agreed 100% :)

  • isn't he selling the dvd? probably copyright reasons.

  • it may be caused by some copyrights, but it's only my opinion:) though, quite probable:P

  • very helpful. This is the first time I ever heard a professonal say, "he uses a lighter gauge pick for strumming and a harder pick for single notes".

  • i also have the orange pick!!!!

well, a tortex pick with the same qualities but in red

  • keep up the great vids justin

  • I have that orange pick and I use it on my acoustic guitar also ^^

  • Thank you! Finally! :)

  • Thanks

  • lol, chocolate cake productions. =D

  • i almost never strum XD most of the songs i play are bashing out power chords lol

  • cool video! thanks for making so many of your lessons free!

  • Woo i have that orange tortex pick =]

  • kewl :)

  • lol choco cake productions.

  • w00t chocolate cake productions

    =]

  • lol chocolate cake productions. i like

  • But why do you strum up and down on the 8th note speed, and only down on the 16th note speed? Would that make it a 32? :P

  • With 8th note speed, you down strum four times, and there's four 'ands'. With 16th note speed, you strum as fast as 8th notes, but only down. So, if he were to add any 'ands' in between each down strum, it would be two times faster then 8th note speed. If that makes sense.

  • i think its the same rhytum but downstrokes make it move

  • I'm no expert so could be wrong, but as far as I can tell, the "8th" and "16th" note speeds differ in the space and timing for potential strums. In 8th speed, you work on four beats with four "and"s between. 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and. In 16th, the same overall tempo is kept, but the work done by the guitar is doubled. So, 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 and. On 16th speed, he hits just the beats. I guess you COULD hit the intervals too, but I find it hard to keep time doing that! =)

  • what your saying is a timing change from 4/4 to 8/8 timing, not a change from quarter, to eighth to sixteenths that alot of people struggle with until they understand timing...
