Loved these guys 25 years ago. Nothing has changed - my union and all my hardworking colleagues are threatened by erosion of contractual terms and conditions of service (Public Servants). As relevant a message then, as it is now. Up the Skins!!
Saw them a few times but the one that sticks in my memory was at a Save the GLC gig in London where Chris Dean and the rest of the band got in a fight on stage with some neo-nazi skin heads in the crowd and all the bands gear ended up being thrown off stage!
For those who are asking where they can get downloads, the album is Neither Washington Nor Moscow (But International Socialism) - and is completely brilliant. Still available on CD and as MP3's from obscure sites like Amazon .....
Saw these in Leeds in 1985 during the Miners' Strike. Brilliant, with every few songs followed by a Geordie miner or Nicaraguan underpvileged crop grower making a speech- bit odd. Wild skinhead crowd charging around the place, but great night. Remember this performance on The Tube too, when they keptcutting the soud whenever they got the same crowd of miners etc. getting up and trying to make political points.
Brilliant. Went to see them in late 80s a couple of times. Strangest thing, last night on some middle aged beeb program called the invisibles, it was playing in the background....Hmm.
Brilliant. Weirdest thing, just watching middle aged programme on the beeb called the invisibles and it was playing in the background. Saw them in sunny telford and coventry where boothills supported. Ho hum.
I saw the Redskins live in London on Double bill with Billy Bragg to raise money for the miners strike going on at the time. It was a great night with some terrific music
ye i was one of the marcher's great night....and a long walk. But needless too say this was the death of the popular left after that it was all down hill to what's his name now.But if you saw this time there's nothing lost the flame still burn's,lesson's learnt can hopefully be turned into something understood
As a skinhead, I never quite got into the Redskins. I did go see them once but the scene was splitting in two at the time - nationalists one way and non nationalists the other way. Wasn't quite prepared to be labelled a communist at that time and the then new found interest in skinhead reggae (my first love) was the way to go for me. Redskins skinheads were seen as a bit odd at the time. A great band though.
Im a 26 year old Mod/Skin and this tune should be force fed to the masses...Fuckin superb and awfully relevant to the Modern World...KTF
