Hello I've had the PMDG 747X for quite a while now and I was wondering if you could tell me what those mini green circles represent that appear on the Navigation Display. Thanks
Fantastic series! I've been hoping for years to find a comprehensive tutorial of this sort. It's exactly the kind of training I'd been looking for and not finding. Currently, I'm learning to fly the 737, and its systems are surprisingly similar to the 747. Hats off to you for all the work you put into these!
I got this PMDG 747 just for visuals. flew it for less than a day and realized it was so much more. Read the manuals but still felt lost. This vid made so many light bulbs in my head power on in reference to what I was reading. Thanks a bunch for making this tutorial. Understanding and knowledge for execution...outstanding!!!!
Hey man,I just wanted to say great tutorial. It's definately the best one out here on Youtube. You're showing us the full flight, and because of this you've answered all my questions about the PMDG 747-400. But I still have one question to you. Where do find that charts? I see that you got a particular chart of EHAM, runway 36C. But I can only find the chart of EHAM showing me everything. So were did you get it? Thanks in advance, and again, best tutorial here on Youtube.
I bumped my throttle quadrant as I was trying to steer the tiller. Oops. They do not automatically come on. Actually reverse is about the only thing not done for you automatically while in autoland.
@meloescher You forgot to set missed app alt and to activate thrust reverses. It's also not allowed to use them below 60kts. Other than that, pretty good tutorial.
Absolutely the best 747 tutorial that have ever seen ! I wish you would show those folks at PMDG how to simplify programing the FMC. You resolved a lot of issues made flying the 747 look easy and fun. I'm now a big fan and looking for more of your videos.
Nice job. There is nothing more rewarding getting the plane from a cold and dark set up, to taxiing, take-off and flying the route you want it to; and completing the flight by touching down at the other end.
Even more rewarding when you do it in something as complex as this beast! Beautiful piece of engineering.
I have been simming for a bit and would consider myself to be rather mediocre. Recently I've bought the PMDG addon and have been left for answers, even after reading the manuals.
Your video has tied up a LOT of loose ends. Thank you so much for your contribution!
First off all thank you very much for this video, got one question,
When I touchdown, at 80 knots I release reverse thrust, set autobrakes to off and reject spoilers... but it still says the plane using ''brakes'' am I missing something? cause I always end up in the middle of the runway with my brakes (for some reason) still on
great tutorial! wouldn't it be nice if FSX were more realistic in the way of touch down: u'd notice it remains smooth. wld be nice if the plane shook as it touched down just as a real plane would ... oh well...
you know this aircraft has different waypoints and stuff to fsx? does that mean you cant fly IFR on it? tell me if this doent make sense. thanks again!
Suppose you fly a 10 hour flight with real wheater, then it isn't possible to plan the descend and approach before the flight because you don't know what the wind strenght and direction will be when arriving...
So what to do? Plan the arrival during the flight just before arrival? Or plan for the runway that is most likely? What do you advice to make a proper approach with considering winds? I hope you understand my question :P
If the A/P is engaged when descending through 1,000 AGL, LAND3 will become active above the artificial horizon on the PFD, it thinks you want to do a CATIIIC approach (note: in CATIIIC there are no miinimums so the plane has complete control until you exit the runway). So the plane does everything by itself, it manages speeds and flies the approach (duh, haha), brings the throttles back to idle, flares, and keeps tracking down the centerline until the A/P is disengaged. All of this is automatic!
Excellent set of videos, I learned a lot, they are very detailed, excellent job. lol and you must have been carrying contraband from Amsterdam because that van stopped you right on the taxi way.
Hi, I saw your link on the PMDG support fourms, I've recently purchased the 744 and am learing how to fly it. I've just watched all 9 tutorials back to back and they were excellent, outstanding in fact. Thank you for taking the time to do them.

Can't do anything but concur with the last person's comment, a truely
great tutorial for PMDS's 747!!
Two minor things though, noticed you were using a TL/
TA of 18.000 ft and also talking about altimeter rather than QNH although flying in Europe but guess you're more used to flying on the left side of
the big swimming pool between us ;-)
...and I hope everything went fine with that drug dealer in the end...;-)
WebMaxxximus 2 years ago 3
Yeah, TA is 3000 ft in the Netherlands. I should have set like that. And, yes, QNH and "altimeter setting" are basically the same thing.

@miniflyer012,
You can't fly it using IFR. I tried it before.
FSX will give you different climb rates and descent and such.

michelarjuna 2 years ago
Plan it through the STAR. Then only the final runway has to be added. You can always change the FMC plan enroute.
Or plan and program based on the forecast and change the approach runway if you have to.
IRL, the controllers will tell you what to when you get in range.
meloescher 2 years ago
@meloescher You also forgot to let the APU start up before shutting down the engines.

Very good videos! These are great for beginners.
Just a few things though:
Usually VNAV in not used to such a low altitude unless at airports like EHAM at night where they have RNAV paths to follow for each runway.
Also, autopilot is usually disconnected at about 500 ft and the plane is flown manually down to the runway.
Lastly, pilots usually say "armed" instead of "primed."
Very good videos!
