  • @vincentjacque I have uploaded it my friend.

  • @olidez Thanx Oli, but where? Not here obviously, as the duration is still round 4' and the name Of Waits appears...

  • @vincentjacque : youtu.be/E1lnSi7QWY8"

  • love love love this song! it's pure long and longing and faith in the face of tragedy. The tune is so simple yet I never get sick of it. I recorded this off the radio decades ago - just a fragment, and played it again and again. as for the orchestra and background voices they are just magical and perfectly matching the voice. Gavin Bryars, thankyou!

  • WOW THIS IS AMAZING

  • Anybody knows if theres any way I could find the original documentary where the loop come from?

  • I don't think religion really matters here, what's important is that somehow this "tramp", who probably lives a rough life in the streets, still has hope! That's what I think the composer meant to embrace with this piece, independent of whether or not the tramp is a christian.

  • This is precious and sweet. Why debate over the existence of Jesus? I personally am a Christian, but anyone can feel the emotion in this dear old soul's voice as he sings a song he probably learned as a little boy. The first time I heard it, I just sobbed.

  • fini. c’est fini. ca va finir. ca va peut-etre finir

  • This Song Is Powerfull

  • I like!!!

  • babies are gross, naked babies are even worse, but I love the music, thanks

  • first time i heard this was the intro to a breezeblock mix on radio 1, the rest of the tracks were forgettable. this broke my heart.

  • wonderful. I herd the Jars of clay version when I was young. It's stayed with me always. Never has a song impacted my life so much.

  • Esta canción me moja los ojos, poca letra pero esa plegaria es intensa para alagar a Dios. Genial Tom Waits por sacarla del baúl de los recuerdos.

  • This is the most moving piece I've ever heard ... we heard it at uni a few months back ... it's beautiful.

  • cause one thing I know...

  • beautiful!

  • cry for the love †

  • @blueroseshow this is only music, let those fairytale shitting stories drop please.

  • I can't describe what this song does to me... Yesterday night I watched and listened this video for at least ten times... The second time I listened carefully, and I just imagined this lonesome, poor tramp... Such a poor man, who sings this words, he might not have had any possessions, but he didn't complain... He truely believed in the love of Jesus... And when his voice is surrounded by the strings in this song, it almost feels like he is covered in a warm peaceful love... That made me cry!!

  • @Musicsmoke

indeed, i am an atheist, so the religious part doesnt touch me that much, but the feel put in this song made my eyes wet, in a good way. thx peeps, love it!!!

  • @gonzomark1 Exactly like me. His faith, his brittle voice and his hope are deeply touching. Indeed, like some else said the musci seems like a warm blanket covering him.

I cried for this poor, poor man...I am sorry for him, yet I Ifeel some comfort for he still felt loved by someone. That is so moving. May he rest in peace.

  • @Musicsmoke I totally agree with you! This piece had the same influence over me.

  • This is such a moving piece of music. Wouldn't it be such a tribute to the memory of this old man if someone recorded it for the christmas market. It is too late this year but if someone produced it for next year and unashamedly tugged at the hearts of all caring people then there is the chance that some good could come out of it in the sales of the recording for the homeless here in Britain or indeed anywhere.

  • this is an awesome song

    [UK][Only UK Performance This Year]

06 November 2010, 19h30, Kings Place, London, UK

  • What's so tragically beautiful about this is that Jesus' blood is a total failure and this poor anonymous vocalist is totally unaware that he himself accomplished something timeless.

  • @ghostofdayinperson You Know wha When I got shot in 1985 I yelled as the guy put the gun up to my head Jesus please Don't let me die in the streets that was in 1985 and I am almost 50 I would say that the blood of Jesus did not fail I respect your opinion but I KNOW WHOM I called and who jammed that gun! Jesus!

  • @dspromos Hmm, that's interesting :) I live in a rough neighborhood and was attacked by four teenagers who knocked me off my bike. As it was happening I screamed, "Oh shit", and luckily they didn't hurt me. Probably only a dare or something. Meanwhile, people all over the world (good people, some of whom were Christian and prayed daily to Jesus) were killed in various ways-- and just imagine, this happens every day! I suppose either Jesus' blood failed them, or they deserved it, right? ;)

  • @ghostofdayinperson Well You stumped me, all I can say is which I thought I had written below (which I did not ) was that I did get shot but I did not get killed all I know is I called on Jesus and I believe He heard me. Yet I do know anyone who deserves to be just randomly killed and you're right it sadly happens everyday.

I do not have all the answers I'm just saying I believe in the blood of Jesus and That will not change. But I see you're point and I wish you well! ;o)

    Thanx 4 the "FFT"

  • @dspromos Thank you for considering what I had to say-- I also wish you well and encourage you to always think carefully :o)

  • @dspromos hi there. i dont hear you preaching to anyone else, just exhalting what feels right for you. good luck to you. i wouldn't be surprised if there was a supernatural reason the gun jammed. either way, if you feel good about life... then good on you

  • This recording was made in the 1990s with Tom Waits singing along with the original recording of the tramp during the later sections. The piece has been performed with accompanying dance. Its first performance was at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in December 1972, and it was first recorded for Brian Eno's Obscure label in 1975. In 1993, William Forsythe used the piece as the score for his short work Quintett for the Frankfurt Ballet. source Wikipedia

  • @bappymagee I saw this ballet by W. Forsythe 2 weeks ago in the Lyon Opera House - France. It was absolutely beautiful !

  • This is one of the most incredible works I have heard in all my 58 years

  • if you listen carefully, i think the tramp actually sings 'this one thing i know', rather than 'there's one thing i know'

  • @dersiano Amen you are correct Well that's what I heard as well never the less when i heard this in my room in 2010 I felt the anointing of God on this man!

I was not by chance that this came about! Praise be to God!

  • Genius!!

  • Incredible.

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • amazing.

  • Love it!

  • Ingenious. Is that Rya Kihlstedt (or Carla) at 2:44?

  • wonderful...it makes me cry...

  • @Miracle67 Me too I thought I had lost that ability to really cry until I heard this song!
