I have two friends who have moved into RVs. One is living on 350 a month.
Maybe you could get a camper van, travel around doing reports- south in the winter, north in the summer. Your YT friends will be happy to host you. My cottage is small but there's a good concrete slab with electric outlet here.
Demcad, As you are probably aware of, the high paying plush jobs are disappearing. With the bad economy, $10.00/hr may be about all one can get. I am paid the equivalent of $7.40/hr with 20hrs/week and live with my parents. They own rental properties and I do the maintenance, the bookkeeping, management and some chores around the house also for them in return for living rent free. When they go on vacation I man the fort so they can enjoy themselves without the worries.

All is not lost. Maybe think of going back to school and upgrading your skills or getting a degree in a high demand field. I'm sure your credits will transfer, so you'll only be looking at 1 maybe 2 years max if you decide to return.
Or you could teach English overseas. Try Korea, China, Japan, or some Middle Eastern Countries. You have a 4 year degree. You may need to get some certs. Look into it. There are tons of opportunity for you.
Don't forget you'll need to plan for shipping your guns to new residence. Might be able to check them if flying uh I don't know about the shotgun. Think they need to be in box then inspected then locked and marked.

Hawaii is NOT good for someone trying to start up. You will get owned. People are only "nice" to you if your rich. Otherwise it would probably be very hostile place to try to stat up.
Bummer man, hope you don't have to leave. While 10/hr. is no where near a liveable wage there, I have to agree with some of the others in that a lot of people would be all over that right about now (me included). The job market sucks everywhere and there are plenty of educated people that are out of work all over the country. Even if you have to work two crap jobs, come up short and have to make some lifestyle changes, you'll pull through. If you want to stay MAKE IT HAPPEN!
Go back to Flint to spend quality time with your family---then move on with your life. If there are people in Flint you trust, get them to move on with you--somewhere else---come to NC where there are 4 seasons, a coast and mtns!.

Move to Aspen Colorado! Lots of people from Michigan move to Aspen because you can make good money and the skiing/snowboarding rocks! It's also a very very very safe place to live in bad economic times!! Also it's off season so now would be the time to find a job and a place to live!

I am so sorry to hear that you may indeed be going back to Flint. When I expressed my concern to you the first time you mentioned it you said that you might get killed if you go back. I agree. I think in the long run you'll be safer in Alaska. As for a $10 an hour job, I know what it's like to struggle to make ends meet on that type of salary. I can understand your point of view DEMCAD. There isn't much in Alaska, but in Michigan you may not find any work either. I feel as though this whole recession bit and job cuts was orchestrated. They first talk about the economy being bad, people listen, and unknowingly make it bad. Then they say it's better now and people will start spending to make it better. It's the power of suggestion through the media. This whole ordeal proves that it works and we should be really concerned.

Demcad, As you are probably aware of, the high paying plush jobs are disappearing. With the bad economy, $10.00/hr may be about all one can get. I am paid the equivalent of $7.40/hr with 20hrs/week and live with my parents. They own rental properties and I do the maintenance, the bookkeeping, management and some chores around the house also for them in return for living rent free. When they go on vacation I man the fort so they can enjoy themselves without the worries.

I can see the look of uncertainty in your face. Better for you to go where the job is. I spent the day in Ketchikan on a Norwegian cruise. The place is depressing when it's raining like that. It was small and didn't really like it. I bet you just want to go crazy sometimes.

All is not lost. Maybe think of going back to school and upgrading your skills or getting a degree in a high demand field. I'm sure your credits will transfer, so you'll only be looking at 1 maybe 2 years max if you decide to return.
Or you could teach English overseas. Try Korea, China, Japan, or some Middle Eastern Countries. You have a 4 year degree. You may need to get some certs. Look into it. There are tons of opportunity for you.

Bummer man, hope you don't have to leave. While 10/hr. is no where near a liveable wage there, I have to agree with some of the others in that a lot of people would be all over that right about now (me included). The job market sucks everywhere and there are plenty of educated people that are out of work all over the country. Even if you have to work two crap jobs, come up short and have to make some lifestyle changes, you'll pull through. If you want to stay MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Food cost 30 to 40 percent more up here.

Maybe some of your family and friends would be interested in moving to Alaska to be with you instead of vice versa. Talk to them about it and see what they think.

Dude, times are hard all over. I know a few guys down here that would jump on that 10.00hr job and eithermake do or get a second 10.00hr full or part time.I am speaking first hand. qne job 13.25 and other 14.00. thats 80 hours a week. And I have 2 teens.Single Parent.
Before I became a victim I made 90+.

Move to Aspen Colorado! Lots of people from Michigan move to Aspen because you can make good money and the skiing/snowboarding rocks! It's also a very very very safe place to live in bad economic times!! Also it's off season so now would be the time to find a job and a place to live!

I am so sorry to hear that you may indeed be going back to Flint. When I expressed my concern to you the first time you mentioned it you said that you might get killed if you go back. I agree. I think in the long run you'll be safer in Alaska. As for a $10 an hour job, I know what it's like to struggle to make ends meet on that type of salary. However, I would never go back to living in a city, even if I could get a better paying job. At least in Alaska you can live off the land.

DemCad do what you have to, just make it the best you can where ever you go. If you just have to leave, and you know it ahead of time, then just be prepared. Dont try to stay their if it is taking everything you have-- like dont sell your silver and gold, just to stay their a little longer, you may need them later in Michigan. Trust me, you dont want to go back dead broke and jobless. Just go back jobless, and take what you have now turn it into cash( or silver) so you will have something

I can understand your point of view DEMCAD. There isn't much in Alaska, but in Michigan you may not find any work either. I feel as though this whole recession bit and job cuts was orchestrated. They first talk about the economy being bad, people listen, and unknowingly make it bad. Then they say it's better now and people will start spending to make it better. It's the power of suggestion through the media. This whole ordeal proves that it works and we should be really concerned.
