I lost all electrics today in a 172 while taking lessons (daylight) No engine info, no radios, lights, headsets or flaps. Quite an experience. Forgot how loud it is inside without headsets.
Glad to have 2 magnetos running well. Still don't know the cause. It came back on for 20 seconds for a while but then went away again.
Sorry dude, but that's a very ignorant comment. There is a large amount of general aviation traffic at RDU, flight training included. I've landed a 172 at JFK also, without any problems, and without creating a hassle for anybody else.
For the record, being an "International" airport only means that it has US Customs service for entry into the country. Has nothing to do with the amount or size of traffic.
On a 150 ft. wide runway in a 30 ft. wide airplane when we want to stay off the centerline lights, yes :) When there aren't centerline light, or when we're in a bigger airplane where the bumps aren't so annoying, then we'll land right on the centerline. Plus, centerline wasn't too high on our priority list that night...
What are you talking about? They completely disregarded the light signals. When they were landing they got a flashing red light, that means to continue circling and give way to other aircraft. They didn't even know what the white light means, it means to return to starting point on the airport. They could've landed or collided with another plane.
Check closer, you may have been watching the wrong light..flashing green on approach and steady green on short final. Then once we were off, we got the flashing white, but then the tower realized "hey, they didn't start here" and gave us the flashing green, which is cleared to taxi. The flashing red light you saw is the beacon of an ERJ holding short of the runway for us.
what caused the power loss

Interesting video. Was your transponder operative? If not, how did you inform control that you had lost communications?

Just checked to make sure everything was ok, since they weren't able to communicate with us to find the nature of the problem.

cool video thanks for sharing it. Found the green tower light real dim. But the white was powerful

I guess the centerline is just a decoration.
