@stevosredneckrepairs You've obviously never tried to restrain someone. It's actually safer for everyone involved (police AND arrestee) to have 4 or 5 officers restraining/arresting them. One on one, it's a fight; five on one, each officer can take an arm or leg and restrain without having to seriously injure or resort to higher levels of force (baton, pepper spray, taser, etc.)

I would agree with sdsmith29, no matter what force a peace officer uses there will always be someone who tries to argue that no force should have been necessary and they should have explored alternative methods to dealing with the person. If the the officer feels that his life or someone else's life is in danger. And the actions of the person must be stopped immediately then officer has the right to use deadly force or whatever means necessary to stop the threat. It doesn't matter if the person has a gun, knife or fists. A threat to Someones life is serious especially on the side of the highway.

You must have missed the recent story where RCMP were sued, and settled, for killing John Simon in Cape Breton. An investigation cleared them of wrong doing and they were still successfully sued.
