Pits were used as nanny dogs back in the day, before idiots started using them in dog fights. They're very good with kids. My best friend has 2 pit mixes who have grown up with a 4 four year in the house- they're so gentle with her it amazes me.

Sorry youre wrong about those Goldens. I have had several of them try to attack my male APBT. Maybe its because ppl who know nothing about dogs think they can get a Golden because its stereotypically a good dog then end up not realizing it takes alot of work to raise a well tempered dog REGARDLESS OF BREED. Im just happy Ive raised a well manned, socialized dog who first reaction is avoidance when being harassed.

My Golden gave my mother bruise from when we first got him to when he reached about a year and the training finally settle in. Now he's the sweetest dog I've ever owned. YES, the owners of dogs HAVE the resposiblity, actually its their DUTY to WATCH all children that intract with their dog.. not only for the safety of the child..but for the dogs also. For example, the Staffordshire bull terrier (of which I have one) is a pit bull type dog and it is widely recognized as one of the best dogs to have for a family with kids because of it's even temper and friendly nature.

In the hands of an irresponsible owner, yes they are more likely to develope problems leading to aggression, but that's the fault of the human, not the dog. It's not like you need to be an expert to raise a great pit bull. Got my first pit bull (a staffordshire bull terrier) last year and he's well-behaved and really sweet. Idiots who don't know what they are doing contribute significantly to the bad rep pit bulls have. Bad owners should be held accountable, not the breeds.

Pit Bulls are great with kids and very protective, the articles you read in the paper about pit bull attacks are by dogs that were abused, trained to be aggressive and basically degranged animals trained by deranged owners. I have two pit bulls and they are even more gentle than my yorkie is when they are playing with my kids and my cat. They know how strong they are and they act accordingly, very awesome loving dogs!

ANY dog can be dangerous if it has irresponsible owners. A friend of mine is missing the tips of his left pinky and ring finger: his neighbor's corgi escaped its yard one day and bit him several times, almost costing him his fingers. (And no, he wasn't teasing the dog. He loves dogs even more than I do.) And the kennel near my current house had to put down a labrador after it had killed a small dog and attacked its owner. Pitbulls aren't naturally aggressive: it's humans that make them so.

Bull shit. Yes, they were originally bred to be aggressive, but in the late 18th century most blood sports they were involved in were officially banned and breeders began to selectively breed gentle dogs. For example, the Staffordshire bull terrier (of which I have one) is a pit bull type dog and it is widely recognized as one of the best dogs to have for a family with kids because of it's even temper and friendly nature.
You obviously have no experience dealing with them.

In the hands of an irresponsible owner, yes they are more likely to develope problems leading to aggression, but that's the fault of the human, not the dog. It's not like you need to be an expert to raise a great pit bull. Got my first pit bull (a staffordshire bull terrier) last year and he's well-behaved and really sweet. Idiots who don't know what they are doing contribute significantly to the bad rep pit bulls have. Bad owners should be held accountable, not the breeds.

@EnigmaDrath i think it's more a case of a lot of people not realising that different breeds need to be trained differently. a lot of bigger dogs are protectors and if you teach that kind of dog to be vicious you can't be surprised when things go wrong. most vicious dog i've ever met was a chihuahua. lol

If a dog is treated right then it will treat it's owners the same way. Any breed can be deadly or harmful to children. The fact this breed gets black listed in countries is a fucking joke. I myself like the breed but I would probably never own one just because I prefer Hunting dogs such as beagles etc. I do however think they're harmless if looked after. A mates pit bull used to carry wood in from outside to the fireplace in it's jaws back in the day, was great to see.

Why are these types of dogs always owned by morons? Who would want to keep a dog that is bred specifically for fighting? After ANOTHER incident where one of these dogs mauls a baby to death we always hear the same old sh*t "He was great with the kids, they must have done something to provoke him" "There are no bad dogs only bad owners" "He was never aggressive" etc. A lot of these owners love animals more than humans.

All it takes is for ONE little 'snap' and the kid is dead. I just listened to a radio talk-show yesterday and the topic was a 911 call where the mother left her infant child ALONE with the pit bull while she went behind closed doors ( probably to do meth ) she came back to see the childs HEAD in the pit idiots' mouth.
