I really enjoyed this. I know it's supposed to be Christian religion, but it sounds very English "folky". Listen to Steeleye Span - Gaudete - and see the similarity.
The baritone stands out a great deal, which is very atypical, as the bass/baritone parts are usually in the background. I really like this fact, to be honest... I've always liked how baritone sounds in harmonies with the other ranges, and it is never really given a focus. I really like this version for the fact that the baritone is so prominent.
I 'rediscovered' this carol a couple of weeks ago - and have been listening to every variant I can find since. I've heard some angelic versions by female choirs, trios and solos but - so far - this one sounds best to me. The male voices somehow bring the feel of the 16th Century (when it was first written) to the piece.
I also love some of the variations these guys bring to the harmonies. Great work!
Lovely. Thank you for this.
