@gunmadkiller The Victoria Line had a problem with trains which were kicking out serious heat from energy regenerative breaks, which apparently have now only been switched on properly to minimise heat dispersal. It's a bit better but the London Underground is always warm. Due to overcrowding some stations are now crowd controlled. I try to avoid peak hours.
I think the Northern Line at the best of times is a trial of endurance, I really do. If there is anything I truly dislike is having strangers jammed tight against me on all sides and then having to look up someone's nose or into their ears or if it's a really tall person directly at their chest from a distance of about 5cms. I remember once managing to get a seat in a crowded tube only to have this guy sit on my lap without even saying anything let alone ask beforehand. That's London for you!
@sallysax But New York subways are more spacious. I'm not sure if New York's A-division stock is wider than London's sub-surface stock; they might be somewhat similar in width. But if you compare New-York's spacious B-division stock with London's tiny "deep-level" tube-shaped stock, then New York is definitely on the winner side. Of course, the conditoin of many stations in New York is still inferior to London.

I've never understood how or why Health and Safety busy-bodies can close overcrowded pubs/clubs when they're only a handful of people over, while LU can ferry people about in these conditions.
people getting ripped off because the goverment likes to sell the network to the highest bidder and get cut of profits, then the actual company that maintains a certain line or lines does half ass jobs with repairs and charge london underground a bomb.
theres only 2 winners here people.
goverment and the highest bidder, everything else they come out with is just bullcrap
the govrnmnt doesnt sell the network to the highest bidder, the tube is currently nationalised i.e. owned by the government. but its true that somthin needs 2 be done about the fares......
the underground is a nationalized company and run by the mayor of london. the governments pumping 7 billion pounds into relieving congestion and improving the line in time for the olympics.
London has one of the best public transport networks in the world, don't diss it, the eperience is part of the fun of it.
I can't bear rush hour. People completely lose their manners if it's about getting a seat, they hit you, push you, walk on your feet....not to mention when the train is obviously full and there's still stupids outside trying to squeeze even more to get a place. Just wait for the next train, for god sake!
It's also annoying during the summer, as the poor unexperienced tourists they get everything stuck and jammed because of their luggage and their slow pace. Victoria is one of the worst.
um... this isn't rush hour. This is normal midday tube conditions. Rush hour is 4 deep waiting at the platform and a tube coming up already packed so you can't get on. Normally you can wait for 2 trains before you get to the front of the platform queue and manage to squeeze on.
7.5 million people, rushing from the west, north, east and south into the centre and then back again in the evening! Such a friendly place! All those people together!
@X46RAPTOR London Underground system is one the best in the world, its just overpriced. But Old trains r only 3, metropolitan, hammersmith and city and circle line.
@billtei London tubes can be dirty, too. It's not as much about cleanliness as it is about the station condition. NYC allowed its subways to deteriorate for decades, and it's not easy to turn the entire system around quickly. Many stations have been renovated in recent years, and they look good enough even if not so clean at times; and the stations that haven't been renovated yet look filthy even if cleaned properly. London has kept its Undergrounds in a much better condition overall.
im going to london with school and im afraid of trains and metro's etc [ anything with rails ] but we have to take the Underground... im scared shitless :'(
Trains don't look particularly full...try Tokyo where they would be packing all the spare people on the platform waiting for the next train straight in the doors...
It's only 3 minutes on the Northern and Bakerloo. On the Jubilee and Piccadilly it's 2:30 minutes & the Victoria, central & Circle run every 2 minutes.
Mind the gap.

so mr mayor wants to invest in the underground as we are reaching full capacity....
ok lets say he does invest and they get an extra 3-6 trains an hour, then what?
is the population suddenly going to stop growing and all the problems will just go away?
how do people get these high positions....?
