• Lovely landing. Smooth

  • look at them evergreen boys work

  • Next time put your copyright in the cornor of the video in faded letters. This totally ruins the video.

  • I got to see this wonderfullness yesterday as air france landed its first leg of plane of this a380 yesterday! :)

  • maybe everyone knows this, but I am really surprised to see that the A380 only uses engines 2 and 3 for reverse thrust. Does anyone know why?

  • where was this shot from?

  • hey that was on my birthday

  • why does everbody consieders IAD to be in washington when its in chantly VA

  • Because they try hard to sell themselves as DC's airport, or a alternative to National... (actually they are managed under one org now I believe.) As does the old "Friendship Airport" which many years ago changed it's name to "Baltimore Washington International" :-)

  • why does everyone think that DCA is in washington as well because their dummies who dont wanna hear the facts

  • @Donteaeeeology

because Dulles is the closest international, "modern" airport. National Airport and BWI simply do not have the runway length and support infrastructure for larger planes like the 747 and the a380.

Its not that unusual. Dulles airport is like DFW or Denver International...usually located several miles away from the city.

  • @RazooGiving I think it's just common sense to have an international airport located at a considerable distance from the city it serves. As expected, lots and lots of huge airplanes land and take off many times a day. It wouldn't be wise to have such massive airplanes landing right in the middle of the city.

  • @jalabotey it isn't in Chantly, its in Dulles, VA. and its considered DC's airport cause its 20 minutes away from dc and Regan which is downtown is national and for private planes. hope that answered it for you:).

  • Incorrect - IAD is a DC airport... IAD services international flights to the DC area as flights originating over 1250 miles DO NOT fly into DCA (National). So, IAD is DC's internation airport.

  • @jalabotey Uh, probably because it serves the Washington metropolitan area. Are you also pissed off that Reagan National isn't in DC but in Arlington? Are you not also aware that MOST major airports are not located within the city limits of the city they serve?

  • hey where did you get the air traffic control radio?

  • Oh, Dad and most of the 'spotters' have scanners, we program all the frequencies they airport uses. You are just hearing my dad's handheld scanner standing next to me.

  • ah. i work at the airport so thats why i was wondering because i know for a fact that all of those radios are monitored/recorded by the FAA. of course we had fun with it. especially when we broadcasted a family guy clip on it and one of the supervisors was like "Not on the radio."

of course, we all think he thought it was a real conversation. lol

  • nice

  • looooool

  • Its so quiet for a huge plane!

  • it is not quiet at all i was there that day at dulles i live right near there i was standing about 100 ft away

  • Im talking about the inside.

  • I work there, and was in one of the groups your video skimmed over, just off of the taxiways. It's dead quiet from the outside. It was dead silent going by. (I have a photo of the A380 and the Cessna lined up going in opposite directions.)

  • Thanks for sharing Mark.. that was a very nice video indeed. Talk about a giant aircraft here.

  • Here is why only the inside engines go into reverse - the outer engines are hanging outside the runway edges - and they do not want to FOD them by going reverse with them,.

  • what a splash that is going to make when the first one goes down.

  • i see youve read up on Wikipedia...

  • aparently those engens are so strong, they can rip up bits of the tarmack

  • Why do 0nly the 2 inner engines go into Reverse Trust?

  • ridiculously massive jet - 1 wheel is the same height as a mid-size SUV

  • In fact gplpark92, it is no more than 1/3 to 1/4 more in any one direction than a B747-400. It just tends to fill out those dimensions more evenly than the Boeing. ☺

  • lol yea

yo im not dissing it im just sayin

    haha

  • Right, was run and flown by Lufthansa!

  • Thanks, You did have a great view then! Of course this version is lower res. for the web etc. Let me know if you want a DVD of you and the A380...

  • Hi,

Could you please tell me who is flying it? I don't see an airline? and also the time to go see it.. if you don't mind

    Thankyou

  • I think it was being run by Lufthansa, and it was a one demo tour and media run. It's not flying to Dulles otherwise at this point.

  • Singapore Airlines, Quantas, Emirates, Air France, Lufthansa. Others following. Due to the size this plane is just used for spotting big international hubs.

  • Nice footage! Very professional quality! At 1 minute and 16 seconds, you can see a little Piper Cherokee (N20977) taxiing from left to right. I was in the left seat of that airplane. We had the best view of anyone (except maybe the vehicles on the other taxiway).
