  • Tim Halcomb can play this song! :-)

  • from a girls perspective wonderfull slippery thing penis

  • @crisDAwog I would actually disagree. I wouldn't necessarily call a penis slippery on its own. You will need some outside fluids/gels to truly make it slippery. That would change the name to "Wonderful Slippery Things" or "Wonderful Slippery Combination of Two Things"... you dumb fuck

  • @ImAwesomeCunt u know your right but jeez dude settle down same goes for pussies they need external fluids too be slippery really there not just slipery all day.......

  • Wow, that jazz comping in the beginning is so good especially for being pure improv!

  • The main theme sort of reminds me of 'If I Could Fly' by Satriani.

  • hes playing at a clinic because his playing cures any disease

  • Yeah. a note-for-note transcription doesn't really help you with this song I guess! That lick @ 1:21 is INSANE! 4 notes per string Major 7 arpeggio played with strictly hammer-ons and pull-offs, HUGE stretch, he almost never misses it!

  • 1:30 sounds soooo awesome!!!!

  • 1:22. I came in my pants !!!!

  • Guthrie Govan = G G= Godly Guitarist

  • This guy is good, But Frank Gambale is a master "NOTE WORKER" of the exact with much more control and original technique to say the least. I hear a lot of other guitarists styles in guthries playing, but frank is known buy the fisrt notes he picks just like pat metheny or alan holdsworth. These are true icons and inovators, not immitators.

  • @NOTEWORKER007 Calling GG an immitator is foolish. He's one of, if not the best guitarist in terms of technicality and skill today.

  • great playing - so when's the new alblum coming :-)

  • @xMrCustom24x He's using a pick, for some of the down strums, he uses his thumb and holds his pick in the other fingers.

  • I dig! :)

  • nice playing but where's the dancing girls? LOL

  • dream g3 lineup....guthrie,petrucci and buckethead

  • @Savatage420 and satriani ¡¡buckethead¡¡he dont play

  • @Savatage420 a G3 without satriani isn't a g3 xD

not trying to say satriani is the best or something, but he's one of the staff members, if you can put it that way xD

  • @Dan1loBr i 100% agree with you on that!

  • @Dan1loBr I think that an interesting line-up would be:

-Satriani(because he must be in the G3)

-Guthrie Govan(because he MUST be in the G3)

-Rusty Cooley(because every good G3 needs a mindless shredder)

    haha

  • @FranLesPaul I see... I don't know much about rusty cooley, but I really like john petrucci xD

  • the only way my vibrato is that good is when my strings are loose as fuck

  • Fuck yeh! Guthrie is using my guitar

  • @cthrubuoy

well youre using HIS guitar :)

  • @cthrubuoy lucky i wish i could afford that or even a cheap jackson at least

  • man i bet this guy is praised in asia. bet my three balls on it

  • Holy shit!

    a truly genius!

  • dude, i gotta ask like 3-4 questions

    1) how did it take you to play like that.

    2) what kind of guitar is that? (it's nice)

    3) i SO want a whammy bar! their amazing!

    4) how did you learn all the tricks you did?? like the slide on the playing part of the strings, and that freaky crying thing you did with the whammy? sincerely, jonathon. also a fan!

  • @HaydenDucati Dude ill try and help you

    1) im sure it took atleast years of deidication and practise

    2) looks like a prs to me i may be wrong but hey.

    3) not exactly a question lol

    4) im sure there are videos on whammy bar techniques on here.

    hope this helped lol :)

  • @crazymonkeytriksta

    its a suhr

  • @scottbringthehorizon ahh okay :D i dint know i just guessed XD

  • 1:50 is UNHOLY.

  • I'm.... Speechless! ?how?does?he?do?it?

  • guthrie is really an great guitar player. I have discovered him yet.

  • I really love this song.!

  • great guitar player!

  • hey ben .. haha :)

this dude is really cool aswell lol x

  • heya hannah :)

  • guthrie is the greatest god of guitar! \m/

he is inborn in guitar playing!

  • god pleasure

  • yea

  • @nicholasmz0r

dude, thanks for the info :)

i will look up teh whammy trick vids. oh boy will i!

  • @nicholasmz0r April 2005 issue of Guitar Techniques magazine. and i quote, "John Stix once described Guthrie Govan as a 'wonderful slippery player', inspiring the title of one of his most popular tunes." i also have to mention that this issue had a note for note transcription of the song, by none other than the man himself...

  • @nicholasmz0r good job

  • @nicholasmz0r

    or guitar neck.

  • @nicholasmz0r You discovered a secret of this song :P

  • @nicholasmz0r makes sense. it's quite the secksing song.

  • @nicholasmz0r Absolutely => erotic cakes :)

  • I think he may have just taken over the spot as the best player around today. He took something crazy technical and made it musical.

  • guthrie's the most versatile player i've ever seen and a huge technical monster defenetely the best player in the entire world

  • pure win

  • 1:04 - 1:25 is just pure AWESOMENESS!

  • 1:22-1:25

    haha what?

  • esta rola te transporta!!! es increible!!!1 buen solo del master guthrie govan!!!!! es unmarcianooooooooooooooooooooooo xD!! NO ES D ESTE PLANETA!!

  • im sorry but his playin so good, it's almost TOO good...literal legend!

  • Great!, I would say definitely an influence from Casiopea/ t-square/ dimension.

  • Incredible. Guthrie's really a guitar wizard. Such a complete musician as well, it's rare to find a guitarist who is so diverse and comfortable across such a vast amount of genres! A wonderful example of what a guitarist can be nowadays.

  • what...mode did he used on this song?

  • @kerry8013 guthorian, major

  • @mrselfdestruct009 I totally Agree : Guthrie Govan is the perfect illustration of the current " level of the guitar " which contantly back pushes the limits look at some guys like Adam Fulara, Andy Mckee, Ron Thal => Mutants.

  • @mrselfdestruct009

Not a fan of the tone or the guitar though. Guthrie is probably in my top tier of shredders, although It really fucks me off to see people with his talent using such mediocre instruments. What the fucks wrong with a Custom Shop Strat??

  • @Carthsgtr Never in my life have I heard of a Suhr guitar being called mediocre or Cornford amps not producing a great tone though I do know what you mean. I think at some point, it has to do with player preference and what they seem to find pleasing to the ear rather than the attempt to create an awesome tone to please everyone :p

  • @theblindsniper I just noticed, this is PRE-Suhr guitar endorsement though I don't necessarily care about what he plays WITH, I just love what he plays. :)

  • It so ACE when he does the violin noises at 1:57to 2:09! It sounds so emotive.

  • one of guthrie's mistakes is equal to 1,000 good notes from any lesser player. Everyone makes mistakes, especially if you improvise a different version of your song EVERY time you play it as long as it doesn't detract from the overall experience minor mistakes are negligible and in my opinion often add to the live performance, perfection is for studio recordings

  • That's his slide that he used for that weird shit. He still has his pick.

  • nah, it was the slide he was using for the bit before

  • Yes he did, it's a slide, and no, he is not human ;)

  • Was it just me or were all comments censored last night?

  • Hi, plesae would you tell me what kind of an object is he using on 2 :46....it sounds great¡¡¡¡

  • a slide

  • You can't get a clear view of it but I'm assuming its a metal pick or something to that effect.

  • it's a slide

  • it's a slide

  • it could either be a slide or something simple like a metal sewing thimble, anything metal could be used, to, in essence, create another fret =].

  • Also it has to be with the neck pickup selected to achieve the pitch bending effect.

  • first time i hear this guy.. amazing

  • he always says he messes up the lick at 1:20 when people are watching but iv never seen him do it wrong lol

  • When he says "messes up",he means one note out of the 8,000 notes could have been a bit cleaner.

  • jajaja when you see it over and over again( like i just did) you notice he faliled ONE note just one maybe for him that is messes up :S

  • awesome song played by an awesome guitarist. yeah, guthrie is king

(i want that guitar hanging from wall)

  • Goddamn, that run at about 1:20 is epic!

  • Such an awesome progression, melody - piece all in all. :) Awesome.

  • I love this song and his album erotic cakes!

  • this doesn't seem up to guthries normal standard! Spesh if you look at some of his other videos.

That doesn't mean he isn't one of the best guitarists in the uk

  • huh... are you sure? I mean, about this not seeming "up to guthries normal standard"?

  • yes im sure ... I have been in one of his master classes and seen him perform many times. Also if you have his CD erotic cakes you'll know how different he is playing it...

He has played this song better...

  • My thoughts exactly. Hes still really good on this but only by other guitarists standards, not gutries. Maybe just a bad day for him.

  • I think he just plays it different live than it sounds on erotic cakes. Maybe cause he slaps the intro

  • Aye Defo =]

  • He slaps the intro on the record and live ;)

  • I know. But in the studio he can play two different tracks. Or probably a ton of different tracks.

  • Very true! He does fill up the sound damn well live though.

  • no sweetheart he's one of the best in the world

  • in what context are you replying...we never said guthrie wasn't a skilled player...

  • this is the pre erotic cakes version, look at the date.

  • Yea, He actually won like guitarist of the year for some magazine in the 90s with this song. Id like to hear the version he sent them.

  • I love this track so much

I don't normally enjoy solo guitarists this much :D

  • Does anyone know where any of Guthrie's stuff may be tabbed?

  • on mars

  • :DD

  • Ultimate Guitar

There are Guitar pro files I seem to remember

  • Oh no man I was talking about my left hand index finger I can't hammer on well with it, especially when on the teen frets of the high string. I can tap with my left hand fine with index middle and ring finger.

  • i hate the word pluck - its pick

i hate the word fingerboard - its fretboard

    rant over

  • plucking and picking are two different techniques. I for one will never pick a string, because my fingers do the plucking. i don't see any reason to use a pick when I have a perfectly good one at the end of each finger. but fingerboard, thats just wrong.

  • Finger picking gives you good control, but you can't shred and sweep.

  • michael lee firkins can sweel and shred as well as anyone else and he only uses his fingers.

  • Yes, but nothing like Rusty Cooley.

Cooley is un-listenable, but his technique is gr8!

  • Pluck means a kind of slapping against the string with fingers, pick means using a plectrum.

I tend to say fingerboard..... because there are fretless guitars out there!

Seriously though, if you say fingerboard then people who play violins, cellos, violas and doublebasses know what youre on about.

  • Reminds me of the late great Shawn Lane at some points, great playing

  • Shawn Lane and at other points Andy timmons also :P

  • i love the volume swells and the main riff

  • guthrie is badass

  • 2:11 That is so cool!

  • i love his mis of picking and fingerplucking

  • Hybrid Picking. Yeah its soooo awesome!

  • dude... guthrie govan is supernatural haha!

  • He is supernatural, yet sounds so natural hehe!

  • 1:10 is politicalamity by Extreme!

  • i finally learnt to play this song

with the aid of an old guitar techniques mag!!!!

    so awesome

i will never play this as well as guthrie though......

the solo sound at 0:44 is amazing

    such good tone !!!!!!!

    awesome

  • TimHalcombe.... just get the fuck lost! please!!!!! and stop multi accounting with your so fucking obvious multi names, cock sucker!

  • Well scumbag I have SEEN Tim Halcomb play this note for note. You need to show some respect or I WILL slap your ass LOL:-)

  • Well well guitarttimman and Larry Govan what a surprise. Are you still fucking mules? You can get arrested for that kind of thing you know.

  • hey with respect, I disagree Guthrie. You were impeccable here and totally awesome man. 5 stars plus infinity :-|

  • get a fucking life you retard

  • WOW YEAH GOVAN FTW!!!

  • Guthrie ftw!

    I love this song!

  • u know how people say thing r easier than they look.......1:22 is freakin harder to play than it looks 8O

  • Haha, everyone always claps when he plays that part!

  • And everyone craps their pants also? I knew the song from the album, but seeing it... but maaaaaaaaan!

  • And the funny thing is that it looks hard as fuck already. I have no idea how the hell he does that. Same with the similar tap runs on Fives. I just can't hammer on with the index hard enough. What am I doing wrong!

Guthrie is such a monster. I really like the main riff it has a nice rhythm to it. He is the best I have seen technically AND he writes great music. You usually never get both of those in one person.

  • Yeah he's a really great well rounded musician. In order to to the tapping phrases, you have to perfect your legato technique...plus try using your middle finger as the tapping finger, it'll be closer to the fretboard and it's stronger.

  • If you want to be a faster guitarist especially with hammer ons and pull offs you need to exercise the muscles that open your hand. any body can have a tight grip, but you have to be able to pull your fingers out of their own way!

  • I love the violining at 1:57.

And this song has got to have one of the coolest riffs ever played.

  • Volume Swells are fun lol

  • How can one guy be so fucking awesome?!!

  • 1:22

what the fuck, I must of done 18 double takes. that shit blew my mind

  • paul reed smith has the nicest sound on earth

  • Yeah, really fast tapping lick. It's considered to be nearly impossible to tab, but you can find a semi-tabbed guitar pro tab for it on UG.

  • Or you could bye the Guitar Techniques mag where Guthrie himself tabbed the whole thing...

  • wich mag?

  • When did he do that? I always get guitar techniques ( I actually discovered this guy whel looking up the columnists... Dario cortese is a real gem too) but I have no memory of guthrie tabbing his own song

  • it was ageeeessss ago

  • any way of me getting a scan of any of that?

  • He definatly did, that's how I learnt it.

I think it was from 2003 in ... November or Decemeber... or sometime along those lines.

  • Impossible to tab? Anything can be transcribed with a good enough ear.

  • tabs are shit, learn how to read music!

  • The guitar has tabs. And tabs are easier to read for the layman.

I'll tell you what; I might start learning violin soon, and if I choose to, I'll learn to read music (as I'll have to; I don't think the violin has tabs) and get back to you. Until then, please don't attempt to condescend on me. Thanks.

  • or you could just learn how to read music on guitar- it isnt difficult and it seems guitar is the only instrument that chooses not to do so, why not just follow suit and do what every other instrument does

you wont get employed to read tabs!

  • I will argue the point that tabs have notations that sheet music does not. For example: bends, vibrato, and tremolo bends.

Is it so wrong to choose to use tabs for the guitar?

Also, I definitely do NOT have plans to pursue a career playing music.

  • you can notate bends, vibrato and tremelo lol

  • I wasn't aware that other string instruments had a tremolo arm on them.

  • how does that matter?

even if they dont it doesnt mean there isnt a way to notate it

  • 1. Actually, I'm pretty sure it does.

    2. Why are we still arguing about this?

  • of course it doesnt you fool! if there is something you can only play on one instrument (like a rim click on a snare drum) there will still be a way to notate it!!

    my god your stupid!
