  • hey my horse is having problems turning the first barrel..we will come around the barrel and turn it half way then she will reject the barrel and go off into a different direction but she does fine with the second and third barrel..what should i do?..i use a tie down on her and the martha josie million dollar bit on her as well..my mare also has a high tempur..she likes to rear on me alot and she likes to toss her head a bunch to..any tips?

  • @dancingshilow Hi, want to make sure you know I'm not Sherry but I will reply. Have lots of experience. Not being there to look at your horse I can only tell you that because she does turn the other 2 barrels fine but not the right turn she may have some pain somewhere. I would rule that out first by having a good vet that understands sports medicine injuries check her out. Also it could be your saddle is pinching her on one side and not the other.

  • @dancingshilow Find a good trainer with a solid reputation for fixing horses the right way and have them evaluate your horse after you have ruled out the pain issues. Horses don't act up for no reason. I've found over the years most of the time its a pain issue. If you haven't got her on a good joint supplement its always the best thing to do with barrel racing horses.

  • @dancingshilow I use Springtime Inc. Joint Health Formula. It contains good stuff for the joints as well as boswellia for pain and inflammation. Its all natural so no side effects. I've found that if you keep your horse feeling good (barrel racing can be hard on the body) they will perform better. Go to vet first, then trainer to work out any training issues that have developed. Hope that helps...

  • Wow, really good vid.

  • Hmmm ill have to try that with my new mare, she's really hott and i can't seem to find a way to make her pay attention. She always hits the barrel no matter what i try. Its so frustrating. >:(

  • i love your barrel racing vids

  • hey i have a horse im training on right now and she is JUST like chappi and i think the bit and martingale rig she was using would be perfect for this mare is there anyway i could get more info on it like where ot buy it? THANKS!

  • @RowdyCowgirl0601 Hi, You might want 2 watch the 2nd video of Sherry training Chappi. She tells what bit she is using. You can find her bits at about any big online store or even in western retailers. I recommend Smith Bros Online for the largest selection. The martingale I believe by looking at it and I have one is a Martha & Ed Wright german martingale. Chk with them whether the reins are included or not. They work really well. They also have bits. YouTube won't let me post the link. Msg me.

  • i gues ur right sorry my bad.

  • good and helpful tips but that horse looks really skinny.

  • @horsenerd1 are you sure we're looking at the same horse? Actually he looks in excellent health and is in top race shape. Anytime a horse is in top racing form his body will look more sleek and long with no excess fat but all muscle. That's how Chappi looks to me. It's a combo of hay, grain and excercise. Just look at Olympic runners or race horses. If they are too heavy they will be more likely to get hurt. His ribs aren't showing. He looks just right...

  • really like this horse because my gelding has a lot of run also & I have to reinforce rate!!

  • @RanchRaised They tend to be more difficult to handle but if you ever get them solid they sure are awesome, aren't they? I've ridden both. The one's that rate easily and the one's who are always on the muscle. Thanks for commenting!

  • Huh....thats intreating (: good job!! :D

  • @ccowgurl13 Sherry is a World Champion so she knows her stuff. Thanks for commenting...

  • Are these videos from Winning Runs?

  • @canchaser2 They are from teaching and training videos...

  • i'm sorry, but what is she doing? like, can you tell me ho this elps racing? cuz, i was thinking about doing this with my mare! :)

  • Hi there, she is reiterating and correcting some of Chappi's problems to do with barrel racing. He tends to get strung out coming into the 1st turn so she's teaching him at a slow pace to correct his mistakes. If you want to learn more about barrel racing I would suggest you get Sherry's teaching video and find a 'good' trainer in your area that can help you learn. Its always better to go slow in the beginning so your horse gets 'solid'.

  • ah right. helpful thanx!! but we don't have special western trainers over here, but i will look!! sorry, again, but what does solid mean?

  • Ok, I had to go look where you are from. Solid means keeping him consistent. You have to work them slow correctly before you can add speed, the you will keep a horse consistent. If the basic foundation of training is bypassed, when you add speed everything will begin to fall apart. Try getting Sherry's training vids, Charmayne James is good, and Charmayne also has training books through Western Horsemen. If you have any more questions just msg me... ;)

  • thanx! really helps!!

  • helps them respect the barrels, and helps you with control.

  • this is really helpful!!!!! :D

  • Thanks I have more but need the TIME to put them up LOL. I chose to put this one up first cuz so many barrel horses tend to fit Chappi's disposition...

  • I have to agree. Even though Brittany is really young, she really has it together when it comes to barrel racing!

  • oh sorry

  • check out the other 3, they are really good...

  • that was really short

  • That is 1 out of 4...
