fedor has the physical tools to be a decent boxer: his hand speed is actually impressive for a HW and he has plenty of power. does he have the technique though? hell no. thing about mma though is that you cant just grab the guy to counter a "brawling" style... the ref wont separate you like in boxing...

If you watch Fedors previous fights (e.g. against Semmi Schilt) you will see when backed into the ropes he tends to rebound then shoot for the takedown. Arlovski did what he was trained to do but Fedor obviously trained for Arlovski's counter. In fact , he lured him into it by pretending to get ready to shoot.

the funny thing is, fedor's boxing is actually well thought out and pre-rehursed. youtube 'casting punch' he combines that with throws and his footwork matches that to give the casting punch the most power it can get. fedor's boxing is actually ideal for a real fight because mma is the art of fighting, boxing is the art of fighting with your hands only. trying to traditionally box in mma is a waste of time, just like mma style boxing in boxing is a waste of time.

Arlovski didnt stray from his game plan. Roach says himself in this interview that the plan was if Fedor shoots Arlovski would answer with a knee. If you watch Fedors previous fights (e.g. against Semmi Schilt) you will see when backed into the ropes he tends to rebound then shoot for the takedown. Arlovski did what he was trained to do but Fedor obviously trained for Arlovski's counter. In fact , he lured him into it by pretending to get ready to shoot.
