Wow, 160 kph is really a lot, if it is an 1100; the maximum I have done with my 1100 is 145 kph; compared to a sat-nav, the speed displayed is pretty accurate. To solve the problem of the giant hurricane, I have altered my final drive ratio from 4,13 to 3.65, which is the one that was used on many 1300 models. It delivers a slower acceleration, though.
Watch out for your tyres at these speeds, especially if they are older...
@ollimk Tyres are new Toyo's. I'm very happy with them, but may want to try something stickier in the future. First there's a gearbox rebuild to be done... Synchromesh are gone, which makes gearchanges from third to second a bit crunchy :)
Our Morris is a 1300 Super de Luxe from 1968, with a different inlet- and exhaustmanifold and a different needle in the carb. The exhaust is made by myself too. Works ok, but needs some improvement to get better ground clearance and better looks.
I managed to get the needle of our Morris all the way up to 160 km/h!
My brother in law, following in a Renault Clio, says he had 170 km/h on the speedo at that moment :D
Can't hear the engine at that speed: It's like being in a giant hurricane, just wind noise.
Roadhoalding is still excellent at high speeds though...
