okay so i just got all four questions correct in the school thingy, so if i dont get any more strikes in the next 6 months, will the strike get removed?! ANSWER
all i've gotten was Content ID Claims: Your account is not in good standing. which is funny because all i've been getting have been bullshit copyright claims from x media and such. i had some before but they blocked germany and youtube never complained about those.
I luckily have never had strikes against my account, 1 matched content and 1 block-in-Germany though. Poor Germans missing out on my awful GTA stunts xD
@vwestlife i got a question i had a vid removed due to copyright and then awhile later it said it was in good standing but I can't upload videos longer than 15 minutes would taking copyright school which I did only got 1 wrong so I passed enable me to upload vids longer than 15 min
i'm getting so sick and tired of copyright this and copyright that. yeah, i agree that the artists' work should be respected and not violated, but the way we're going about dealing with it is just ridiculous. now they try to stick people singing christmas carols, i'm sorry but this is America and i'll say or sing whatever the hell i want to and screw anybody that tries to stop me. all you hear these days is all about copyright. i'm just sick of it and this is just the tip of it.
@vwestlife You can watch any video from any country just install a VPN and set to UK or whatever country the video is from.It fools the server thinking your from that country.
oh and by the way.. the music censoring here in germany really is ridiculous.
just to give you an idea of the scale: if it's VEVO, it's blocked. All of it. No exceptions.
I've set up a VM with XP and Teamviewer installed just for youtubers who simply don't believe the scale of the blocking.
If anyone wants to see it with their own eyes, send me a message. I can give you the Teamviewer ID and password, so you can surf youtube using my connection (german ISP) instead of yours.
I didn't have any copyright strikes on my YouTube account, but I did run into Content ID Matches (not knowing those didn't count AS copyright strikes). I went ahead and removed the "Content ID" affected video and re-did it, and it shows that I'm in good standing still...
This is a good first step for Youtube, and maybe (being the optimist that I am) an admission that not everything is as cut-and-dried as it used to be.
I worry sometimes about the status of my account, as there are four content ID matches (no strikes/in good standing). One was disputed without success, though nothing "bad" happened. It would probably be bad if those went from matched to blocked...
@uxwbill It's really up to what the copyright holder wants to do. Some take a "slash-and-burn" approach, while others are far more lenient. And sometimes even the artist/group of the song in question is not aware of what the record company is doing on their behalf. I recently got in touch with the rock group "Triumph" and they're trying to get a copyright strike that WMG filed on one of my vwest1ife videos removed, although they said it could take up to two months for YouTube to approve it.
@xmaddict I'm sure their voices had a little "help" in the studio, but no one should expect artistic purity from pop music. Pitch adjustment and other vocal tricks have been used in pop music as far back as the 1950s, when recording studios first got their hands on tape recorders and learned how to use them for special effects.
No strikes on my account, but it's funny to see Content Matches on songs no one cares about. Ironically, it seems the most vocal and aggressive copyright police are after uploads from the *has been* bands that no one would ever buy anymore anyway. Snicker.
I got a copyright strike on Veoh once. Strange, it was okay for YouTube with a Content ID match from Sony, but Veoh took the same video down. Needless to say, as soon as YouTube allowed long video uploads and corrected the bandwidth issue, I got rid of my Veoh account.
Now I can't view videos with music on my mobile. Argh!
A nice tutorial, as always, from the vwestlife channel. :-)
I've never uploaded a video here, I've been on the site for about 4 years. I would have been banned long ago if I tried to upload vids here. I was banned from another site and it's a pain in the ass I can tell you. Many vids are banned here or have been at one time, Prince, Saturday Night Live, come to mind quickly. If you aren't sure, you probably shouldn't chance uploading copyrighted material here.
After seeing your video, I checked my YT account. I wondered if that 1 strike I have is still there. It looks like it's gone! There were times when I said that I would set up my new YT account if I get a second strike on my current one. Would it matter if I take that little quiz?
Almost nothing seems to top original versions of the good old tunes from way back when. Most of today's stuff I find nothing special. We can't all agree on what's the [shaving cream].
Could that "copyright school" video be any more condescending? Oh well, I just did the quiz and got them all right. Hopefully they'll eventually remove my copyright strike from 2008.
And that's just stupid how they block certain videos in certain countries. What's the point of that?! There's even clips on YT of a Canadian comedy show that I can't watch, because.... they're blocked in Canada! I mean, this show isn't even on international TV, so who do they think is gonna watch them now?!
@wilkes85 You don't actually need to watch the "Copyright School" video, if you already know the answers to the quiz questions (which change every time, so you can just go back and click on the link again if you get a question you're not sure about).
We need some sane copyright reform here in the US... We are judging modern cases with laws written in the 19th and early 20th centuries when access to data was much more limited
I have about 12 vids that have a note that they may be a copywrite problem, yet they also say "no action is required at this time, but ads may appear".. Are these considered strikes?
@fortyfiveplayer No, those are Content ID matches, which do not count as strikes. Go to Account Settings, then Manage Account, and look under "Account Status: Copyright". There it will either list the video(s) that are considered strikes against your account, or will say "Your account is in good standing."
Here in Germany it seems like the majority of YouTube music videos is not available. As far as I know, the songs that were published by Sony Music and UMG are just blocked completely because the German GEMA wants money from YouTube for every single time a video is being played. That already caused online activists to hack the GEMA website putting a big YouTube-like window on it saying "This website is not available in your country" :D
@DrCassette Ironically, it is Warner Music Group that either allows a video to be seen worldwide, or blocks it worldwide. They don't block videos only in Germany like the way that Sony and UMG do.

Thanks a lot for this vid.
I've had a copyright strike from FOX because i uploaded a video containing a 12sec simpsons clip back in 2009
I couldn't set any of my videos to "unlisted" because of the copyright strike.
After watching this video, i dug my way through the account settings and suprise.. the copyright strike is mysteriously gone O_o
I didn't watch the copyright school video (yet) nor did i do the quiz thingie.
I prolly would've never noticed the strike being gone without this vid

Not bad for the A1 song. WAY WAY WAY too much Auto-Tune however. I'm not even sure this band can hit the E5 that A-ha could ACTUALLY hit.
