2:38 "Beautiful Speaking Budgie Bird" how true! Now if only I could get my camera shy budgie to talk on the video I could play back and decipher his speech, his first two takes with the hand held were happy chirps but once he realized I was recording him for youtube he clammed up lol.

At about 2:26, is Merton saying, "Got lots going on here?" That's hysterical. I love how at 2:46 he sounds frustrated, as if he would like to say more, but just hasn't yet the words.

Merton is a very entertaining bird.

What he is saying is, "What's going on here?" -- a phrase he picked-up by himself.

I thought something similar to that, which is that Merton is saying "God, WHAT'S going on here!!?" and then at 2:46 it sounds like he hits his head and then he starts crying due to the pain.

I want my next budgie to be an English budgie like Merton.

Merton is talking to his reflection in the chrome rim of the camera lens and knocks it with his beak while talking.

Did you teach him to make the sounds from 0:48 to 0:51 when he "hits" his head?

A few viewers have had the question, "What did you do to him? Does he even know how to make 'normal' bird noises?"

In fact, Merton makes lots of very normal bird noises, including what you hear at 0:48 to 0.51, most of which I have edited-out of the video.

Being a budgie keeper many years, it never occurred to me that someone might think a talking bird cannot make regular bird noises, as well.

I think I will make the next Merton video with a stretch of budgie chirping so viewers can relax and see he is a normal, happy budgie who speaks because he is in love with his human person.

Also, Merton lives with a houseful of budgies and has budgie friends to play with.
