i studied and trained in wing chun for awhile and i have to say that some of the movements in this art are similiar and somewhat economical..they can also be used in chi sao and trapping
wow. this martial art is so damn beautiful for it's simplicity. tried some movements on a friend of mine, whooped his ass :D please, more shackle hands!
hey dude the whole was call asia at one time.jesus was refered to as an asiatic man and was black.the chinese came later .but you wouldnt know that obviously.

Sorry Frank, we as Africans have had martial arts, ancient martial arts, but Chinese martial arts are distinctly Chinese. If we see the outer similarity and think that it is African, then we clearly don't understand Chinese martial arts. We do not have to be the originators of everything to be great.

it doesnt seem powerful, I think some movements are needless compared to the far eastern martial arts... or maybe it is just too smooth to introduce a fight
No, that's just your bias talking, which stems from both the overexposure and romanticism of Eastern Martial Arts. No matter what you want to call it, its end result is ignorance.
~1. it doesnt seem powerful: Master Bakari Is Demonstrating Form Not Breaks!
~2. I think some movements are needless: Meaning You Are Not Sure...
~3. ..compared to the far eastern martial arts: Are You Suggesting COMBAT?
~4. or maybe it is just too smooth to introduce a fight: WATER IS SMOOTH, BUT WOULD YOU BE SO STUPID TO ATTEMPT A DROWNING OR A SWIMMING IN THE PACIFIC-OCEAN 200 MILES OFFSHORE?
Shackle hands resemble Karate-jutsu and Fujian white crance boxing. The applications of the self-defense moves demonstrated looks very similar to the bunkai on Seiyunchin kata.
everything originated in Africa, in this case Martial arts andwrestling all that stuf originated in Africa,so did all humans..... all so-called races are a sub-race of the Black original races..... simple Facts... unDenyable Facts! accept it..... Hotep
Yes and no. India martial arts and Egyptian martial arts are the oldest on record. But martial arts have no origin. They are based on natural movement, instinct, and environments. Hence most arts have similarities in one way or another to each other.
All human life technically started in Africa, mind you at that point we were apes, not a "black original race." Some stayed in what would eventually become Africa, some migrated, all evolved and became new races.
every decade or so we find bones of intelligent humans (African) judging by the items found with them, the only "proof" there is that says we were ever apes. is by deduction and the scientific method of analysis.though it is safe to say that the longest reign of substantive intelligent arts came out of Africa. never in the history of man have one group of people been more plagiarized, admired, deified and then vilified than that of Mother Africa
all this stuff is just dancing I'm from northern Nigeria and we still prctice our martial art dambe which is brutal and straight to the point like muai thai.
no disrespect but we need to stop paying attention to form and more to combat.
Honestly , that would work in a close street style defense . As you can see from his slow and deliberate demostrative movements , a slap or knifehand to the neck , elbow to the jaw and myriad of straight strikes , this would work if your hands are cuffed or tied.
I have had tried a handicapped combat sport and trust me , if you only had one hand , you still have a head and two legs.
Nice, only problem. That will not work in a real fight. I do wing chun, and even in that you need to cut to the basics. Stuff that looks good dont realy work.
You can be taught if you want to learn. The hard part is finding a teacher who knows this rare technique. I was lucky to have been taught by Master Bakari. Although my training in shackle hands was brief, I still practice it from time to time.
Beautiful, I practice "Shackle hands' in Cuffs or binded by rope, twine! Also good to have you as a Myspace "friend". I was initiated into Shanti Amani a Yoruba Dance/Combat Troupe. Yes, Brother Back To Kemet!
Very cool -- how much has hsing-i played a part in skackle hands -- is this not clever kung fu with the hands tied together.
As kids we learned 52 handblocks (Los Angeles version) in the 70's (back when people fought, rumbled). Some of the older kids, maybe as prison prep, maybe maturity learned "tied hands" or "cuffed hands" which was not as kung fu looking. Like, tie the hands and see what you can do. Even Russian Systema people practice this. So, my Q? is what style is this really?
You also forget to mention.."clever Karate, clever Judo, clever Kempo etc. But if you are going to use the Word "Clever" You might want to check out the temple walls in Egypt.
remember that there are animal gods in the temples of egypt as well huh? and what about all that wicked weaponry they have that is unlike anything in the world. did you also see the color of the dudes doing the manuevers. they are not brown but in laid in ebony. sniff, sniff, sniff im so proud.
When we look at Sil Lam bam South Indian/Sri Lankan martial art, which also comes be4 the Siu-Lam or Shao-lin as some spell it(notice similar spelling) brought to China by the Bodhidharma(and others), a black Dravidian, an art that looks nearly identical to both shao-lin Kung Fu and Sudani/Kemetic fighting styles, should we think it "looks" too "kung Fu" also? And where do you suppose the Dravidian's came from, and from where did their martial art first develop? How do you define African?
