I miss these kind of UM-MSU battles. It hasn't even been close the last couple of years. Sparty has dominated UM for the past 3 years, hopefully this year will bring back the Paul Bunyan trophy where it belongs: in Ann Arbor.
Yeah, that fumble in the 4th was horseshit. I've seen NFL situations where that isn't ruled a fumble even when the ball is still behind the QB's head. The rule is that ANY forward motion whatsoever gets ruled an incomplete pass. Refs screw up all the time, but this is the third shitty call in an MSU game that has lead directly to points for Sparty that I've seen thus far.
I'm a Wolverine fan... been to the Big House numerous times... been to Spartan Stadium once in 2009 vs. Iowa... Spartan Stadium is nothing compared to the BIG HOUSE.
as much as i hate to say it.. he really did. he was so good at the deepball. expecially to manningham. they killed us. but that was with john l smith mainly.
Congrats on the win Saturday. I'm a UM fan, but I'm not really too upset. I felt like MSU was the better team, even with a worse record. That Kirk Cousins kid is pretty damn good.
And even though I liked Henne and have a great deal of respect for him, I think Tate has the leadership that Chad never had at Michigan. Too bad he started out 0-1 against Sparty, but oh well.
dude you have no idea how nervous i was. msu's defense played in a way they havent played all year. msu and u of m have great quarterbacks the next 2 years for msu and the next 3 for michigan. forcier is not an nfl type either so you know hes staying for his senior year. i really hpe this rivalry starts having an impact on the big ten championship. and thanks for not being arrogant like a lot of the michigan fan base. good luck the rest of the season.
i would hope so lol. i think every one outside of indiana hates ND. cuz no matter how much they suck espn never stops talking about them and their fans are the worst.
Freshman qb + away game + shaky defense + rivalry =very difficult game. Hopefully well do better against Iowa. Their D has sucked as of late too. But hell of a comeback effort from our boy Tate. This kid is a true athlete. Big Ten teams should be looking at him and saying we might have a problem. GO BLUE
They were 4-0 with 3 blowout wins over cupcake teams and a thrilling OT win against Notre Dame. (Even I cheered that day).
After they beat an awful Illinois team 61-14, Sports Illustrated wrote an article on how great their offense was and I had a feeling that would come back to haunt them. They were favored against us for the first time since 1968.
After we won, Sparty only won one game the rest of the year.
yeah, i read that article in sports illustrated. but i dont think the michigan loss was the reason we lost all of our other games. we were beating ohio state IN ohio state until that botched field goal. THAT was the turning point. GODDAMN IT I MISS STANTON.
and their offense was good lol. even at the end of the year they were still ranked like 5th or 6th in total offense and ranked 1 for most of the year. but you do make a good point about beating cupcake teams. but we gained a SHIT ton of yeards versus ND and we got quite a bit versus michigan this game. our defense was teh reason we were so bad in 05 and 06. stanton was amazing and he just didnt have the defense to back it up.
@WolverineHistorian Hmm that sounds familiar ... OT win over ND, easy wins over cupcakes, win over overrated Wisconsin. 5-0 and they're unstoppable. Will be fun to break their hearts again.
You'll never see a game produced like this on ESPN. The theme music at the beginning, the overhead view on the first play, the on-screen graphic at 2:22. All awesome. But I'm just ranting on for no reason, again. Plus, how did Rivas miss that kick?
He busted up his knee in spring practice in march 2006 and never saw the field again. I think he reinjured that same knee in spring practice 2007 as well
Bass was healthy throughout the 2005 season, but yeah, he could have been a helluva QB for us last season (or a great slot receiver). I remember some anouncer saying that bass was one of the best athletes he had ever seen
Dude, thats pretty sweet. do you know what Bass is doing with his life post-football? I'm just curious. If I was Bass, I'd be thinking NFL all the way and wouldn't have thought about getting a degree.
Another one of those games where we just dominated and we just left a team in there, but I just love beating Michigan State...and I can't stand Dantonio and we need to put him in his place this year...i hope
It was frustrating. No doubt about it. Sparty getting a bogus TD return from a non-fumble and Rivas missing that field goal at the end of the 4th quarter...the game should never have gone to OT. But every game came down to the last minute in 05, win or loss.
your right, the game never should have. our kicker should have hit 3 field goals. now i will admit that fumble return was questionable but great teams overcome those. man the drew stanton brady quinn chad henne era was great wasnt it?
@andrewps84 I know the comment is removed, but I will answer it anyways.I've been a Michigan fan for more than 20 years of my life & have been to Ann Arbor as well as East Lansing (Which is beautiful by the way, my rogue cousin went there)...jk.It is a great school. Now to your comment:I wasn't making fun of Michigan State in my first comment, I actually was fun of Michigan with a backhanded comment to MSU which was not cool...my bad...2) My problem with isnt Dantonio's coaching, it his attitude
@DMichiganWol21 I agree, there are things about Dantonio I don't like, but I think he's an improvement from that hillbilly John L. Smith. I have been to the Big House and honestly I am in awe of the place, compared to Spartan Stadium (I used to live a few miles from there.) My parents met at MSU, coming from totally different backgrounds and my dad coming from 12,000 miles away, himself as a grad student. You can see why my love is there. I like the videos, what can I say?
@andrewps84 That's true, they are great videos! Well, I guess all I can say is there is a mutual respect on both ends and I hope that 2011 brings a helluva game between the Spartans and the Wolverines
@commodorefan2 Yeah John L. was a joke. He was championship coach at the Pop Warner level...Ron Mason and President McPherson must have been high on something.
@commodorefan2 Never said you were a Spartan fan and didn't suggest it either...I was saying he was joke and he'll never live that one down...definitely one for the blooper reel.
@DMichiganWol21 You know I won't stoop to your level. I have a respect for UM and a great love for Bo Schembechler, believe it or not. Dantonio isn't rolling over like all the other coaches did, get over it...Half of the Wolverine fans I know can't even spot Ann Arbor on a map, they're about as fairweather as they get. I have a good reason for supporting the schools and programs that I do. Good luck to your program this year.
Just a few more days...GO BLUE!

wasn't 2005 the first year for instant replay in college football? the fumble should have been reviewed.
