The war was never resolved. He aided the space program, sure but where does that get us? How does that help with the economy? And he wasn't thrown in to any situation. He got himself in it. He ran for Presidency right? Twice during the war. Verses Kennedy and when he won. He completely volunteered.
It's sad to believe that people are ignorant enough to think he was a bad president. He greatly aided in the United States getting man on the moon. He removed great stress and worry about the cold war through the SALT agreements. He reopened connections with China. He also ended the Vietnam War. Now you say he is "evil" and corrupt" because he was thrown into a situation that his supporters created? Please... go back to school children.
@Jakesterandbanjo I think you need to go back to school, do your study on the bohemian grove because nixon was a member and the things they did was pure evil!!!!! prove me wrong...
Ron Howard’s movie changed the interviews and the history substantially. Frost did the same with the actual interviews themselves, by redoing them in this program. He chooses snippets, and gives his own views about each, leaving out important pieces that show a very different story. Between them, Howard and Frost have tried to change history. The truth is that Nixon defeated Frost easily and convincingly in the original interview, which Frost made impossible to find.
Everything thinks he's doing the "right" thing. People always choose the path they think is "right." Saying Nixon thought what he was doing was "right" doesn't exonerate him at all.
Nixon truly believes that whatever he says is gospel! He's convinced himself that his lies are the truth and in the USA's best interest. It's all about me me me. Gomer Pyle said it best....fer shame fer shame fer shame.
Nixon's downfall is pride and self-importance. You are right, everything has to be about him and his pride does not allow him to no believe in whatever he says. I first saw these personality flaws, in addition to his ability to place blame on others and defame another's character is during the presidential debate with JFK.
Why are the comments not relevant to this important point in history? It's not about Frost. It's not about Nixon. It's about the age old saying, that power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Nixon believed he was right. And he was willing to risk the investment of American trust, in our presidency. He did it withought adequate thought, or rather devoid of moral thought. And he did it for the same reason that as other 'rulers' do, they know they are right, but they are not.
I know that bringing Hitler up may seem inappropriate, but even he thought that he did the right thing.
He truly believed that the Jews were secretly responsible for the all bad things in the world, wars, the great depression, communism etc. and so he did not think he was doing a bad thing when he got rid of them.
And no, I'm in no way saying that Nixon is as bad as Hitler, I'm merely saying that the belief to do the right thing is no proper justification.
@caycu Because Italians are by now corrupted. And I'm not talking about bribes, I'm talking about morals. Even the staunchest, fiercest journalist is unconsciusly corrupted. When you are bound to fight an enemy, when you Do have an enemy, you are inevitably corrupted.
@silvereagle2061 ..I hope you'll excuse my last post. I forgot the length of time between the actual events and this interview. You were right to laugh at his ridiculous remark.
@mt22201 - Could be the fact that Truman saw the usage of the atomic bomb on Japan as a form of political containment. It was supposed to send a message of US supremacy in military matters, and therefore end further war. They were very concerned with negotiations with Stalin at this point, and wanted him on the back foot in their 'big three' meetings (Churchill, Stalin and Truman).
I'm talking to Frost. The problem with the first sections of the interview is that he lets Nixon speak to freely. So it's good to see him lead Nixon back on track.

He didn't end the war. If he ended the war then fighting between the North Vietnamese and the US had major losing grounds after he left office?

Nixon was set up by the same people who killed JFK, he wanted the death to be investigated - thats what i heard from Jesse Ventura!

Nixon: hasn't been published you say?
Frost: No. It's available to anybody who consults the records.
Nixon: Oh, I see.

So are the 6 parts from all the days he was interviewed, or just one day that they talked about watergate?
ZW716 10 months ago
@ZW716 Not this is just watergate, I never found the other ones, they spoke about Cambodia, Vietnam and foreign politics amongst other topics.
