I'm not going to comment on whether or not wearing a hat is right or wrong. All I know is this song is anointed, and I'm going to worship God and enjoy His presence regardless.
Christ didn't fit the Pharasies ideal of a messiah either. I don't think God looks at our appearance and judges, he looks in our heart to see if he is there. The Bible says "judge lest ye be judged". We had a dear friend taken from us last year by cancer. I help lead worship at my church, and i was recently addressed about the whole hat wearing deal..... after the service i was waling off stage and one of our members walked up and greeted himself. He was super friendly, and we talked for a little. Then before he left he handed me a piece of paper with some scripture on it and said "take it as you want brother" then walked away I was happy at first, i thought God was going to give me some words of encouragement (rough time in my life) .

I think some of you guys are confused with the fact that God knows these things. You guys think that appearence plays some huge role in what way God uses us. The bands Demon Hunter, RED, God uses them to change they're lives. God loves everyone in sin or not he loves us so much that his presence is here always. I Gods presence left everything we know would literaly fall apart and die.

I personally don't care what the person looks like as long as they are filled with Christ. Just because he wears a hat and has a beard does not make him less Godly than anyone else.. At a very difficult time in my life, this song has given me the grace to hang on to God's victory and stand. Thank God for those who are willing to just give what God gives to them.
Further more, how we present ourselves should be done to worship and glorify God. Not to mention how we talk. You wouldn't take porn into Church, you wouldn't graffiti (tattoo) the Church, you wouldn't play vulgar music there or cuss or anything like that. Our bodies are the temple of God, and we should treat them as so. They are not our own, and how we present them either brings glory to God or it doesn't.
Just to add to that thought, many people understand blasphemy to be things such as taking the LORD's name in vain, etc..., but if we bare the name of Christ as His children and we misrepresent Him by the way we live, then we become a living blasphemy to the One True God. Its something I struggle with daily. We need to remind ourselves that we are emessaries of God and that we bare His name to the world. Don't be a false witness of God by blaspheming his name by the way you live.
personally I believe that God is not so much concerned with the appearance of a man. I believe where the persons heart is at is much more what God's concern is. look at John the Baptist he was the one that sat the stage for Christ. People viewed him as a social outcast because of how he lived.
Right he was a social outcast because he chose to live a simple life. John the Baptist did not represent himself (dress, act, etc...) with another cultural group. If personal appearance doesn't matter, why not just run around naked? Even Adam covered himself after sinning... However, I do not have an issue with Mr. Hall, but I do have an issue when people try to pretend like God doesn't care how the men and women that bare His name respresent Him.
Emotional response to music is not worship. Emotional response and praise to the truth in lyrics of how wonderful our God is, is what corporate worship is. While I don't have a problem with his hat in this concert setting, how Christians present themselves before the God of the universe shows how reverent they are. God deserves our best, even in the way we dress and present ourselves. Our bodies are the temple of God, treat them like it.
I started attending a large non-denominational church after coming from an episcopal church background and one of our worship leaders wears a hat occasionally. At first it was weird, but I have grown to offer my heart in worship and not focus on petty things such as looks. If I find it is distracting me, I just close my eyes and focus on the lyrics and then I find the true meaning of worship. The Apostle Paul reminds us that we will all have our pet beliefs but the Holy Spirit will conform us.

I was there at Passion and there was nothing distracting about the way he lead worship, his hat included. I don't think that anyone who was there remembers anything besides the awesome move of God that we all felt. I still remember that time I had in that place and I want to relive it everyday. I am in the military and I am actually deploying this coming Monday and I will tell you that I am at the worst I have ever been in my walk with Christ. I haven't prayed in months maybe even over a year.
You've made a common legalistic biblical interpretation error. When it refers to not causing your brother to stumble, it means not causing him to do something he feels is morally wrong... for example pressuring him to drink because you feel it's ok even though he doesnt. The fact that you find the hat distracting isn't causing you to stumble. The mere fact that you don't like it does not mean that he's mandated to change... only if it were leading you into sin would that be the case. .

I'm not sure where markchanggz is coming from, but I can see his point about stumbling blocks. If a female praise singer was leading worship dressed in a micromini skirt, a tube top, etc., that would be a stumbling block to the men in the audience, regardless of what she was saying and/or how much they loved God. Because they're men. So what people ministry wear is important to their outreach. However, nothing is revealing or inappropriate about Charlies outfit so its not a prob in this case :)

Ever heard of "judge not lest ye be judged"? Im traditional-ish, but still I have learned that we CANNOT judge another person's worship. That's for the Lord to decide. If Charlie, or anyone for that matter, is doing something that isn't kosher, then it will be handled in an ultimate and eternal manner. His appearance may be odd, but there was once a man who "had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him". He was "weird" for his time..wasnt he?

I was just expressing my feeling, fairy. When i watch this charlie guy lead worship, it feels very different compare to ppl like Darlene Zschech. There's nothing atypical to have this feeling. He has this funny beard, strange cloth, and this interesting hat. The way he sings and move also makes me feel strange. He looked like a star&celebrity rather than a worship leader. It's just too stylish and not touching at all. I don't feel any atmosphere of worship. sorry, this is how i felt.

That's good you were touched. But "worshipping" isn't about being touched but rather touching the one who has created and saved you. And the thing is, Charlie is able to reach a generation of young people that many in the modern church ignore. Don't discount him or the work he is doing just by how he dresses. This attitude is why many people hate church because they are frowned upon because of who they are. Let the Holy Spirit work on Charlie and his "outrageous" clothing.

worship isn't about the people leading it conforming to a stereotypical identity- it's about praising the God of the entire universe, and if a hat and a goatee is distracting you so much from worshiping our Creator, there is a problem that isn't the leader's fault..

I agree but wearing hats in church isn't widely accepted as "proper" or whatever and people may be distracted because the leader is wearing a hat and they are against that when they should be worshipping, and as a worship leader I think it is a responsibility to try to keep the focus on worship.
I agree with you, brokemusician. Worship leaders should keep the focus on worship, but I also think that the worshipers should as well. It isn't really about the worshipers after all...it is about God. And if we aren't choosing to worship because someone is wearing a hat, well, I think the rocks will do a better job than us.

Someone wearing a hat wouldn't distract me from worshipping. But when leading a congregation you have to do your best to help everyone worship. Its the same with song choice, if your playing songs no one in the congregation wants to sing. Youre doing a bad job keeping the congregation in unity and worship. Its the same with clothes to a certain extent. Being a worship leader is more than getting on stage and singing to God. But at passion I doubt its a problem.

For starters that is not a church it is an arena. Where he led worship to a lot of college kids 18-25. I don't think they minded to much. God just wants praise hat or no hat. I help lead worship at my church, and i was recently addressed about the whole hat wearing deal..... after the service i was waling off stage and one of our members walked up and greeted himself. He was super friendly, and we talked for a little. Then before he left he handed me a piece of paper with some scripture on it and said "take it as you want brother" then walked away I was happy at first, i thought God was going to give me some words of encouragement (rough time in my life) .

I think some of you guys are confused with the fact that God knows these things. You guys think that appearence plays some huge role in what way God uses us. The bands Demon Hunter, RED, God uses them to change they're lives. God loves everyone in sin or not he loves us so much that his presence is here always. I Gods presence left everything we know would literaly fall apart and die.

I personally don't care what the person looks like as long as they are filled with Christ. Just because he wears a hat and has a beard does not make him less Godly than anyone else.. @EmeraldPictures you're correct but we can;t obtain such perfection. That is why Christ was sent to this world. It was so we may have a chance, but only those who God calls can obtain grace. Even with the grace, it's not an excuse to sin, we are to be as Christ but being that we are a sinful flesh we will fail but we still have to strive to be perfect as our father in heaven is perfect. So you're right but let it go that he's wearing a hat.

Further more, how we present ourselves should be done to worship and glorify God. Not to mention how we talk. You wouldn't take porn into Church, you wouldn't graffiti (tattoo) the Church, you wouldn't play vulgar music there or cuss or anything like that. Our bodies are the temple of God, and we should treat them as so. They are not our own, and how we present them either brings glory to God or it doesn't.

Just to add to that thought, many people understand blasphemy to be things such as taking the LORD's name in vain, etc..., but if we bare the name of Christ as His children and we misrepresent Him by the way we live, then we become a living blasphemy to the One True God. Its something I struggle with daily. We need to remind ourselves that we are emessaries of God and that we bare His name to the world. Don't be a false witness of God by blaspheming his name by the way you live.

personally I believe that God is not so much concerned with the appearance of a man. I believe where the persons heart is at is much more what God's concern is. look at John the Baptist he was the one that sat the stage for Christ. People viewed him as a social outcast because of how he lived.

Right he was a social outcast because he chose to live a simple life. John the Baptist did not represent himself (dress, act, etc...) with another cultural group. If personal appearance doesn't matter, why not just run around naked? Even Adam covered himself after sinning... However, I do not have an issue with Mr. Hall, but I do have an issue when people try to pretend like God doesn't care how the men and women that bare His name respresent Him.

Emotional response to music is not worship. Emotional response and praise to the truth in lyrics of how wonderful our God is, is what corporate worship is. While I don't have a problem with his hat in this concert setting, how Christians present themselves before the God of the universe shows how reverent they are. God deserves our best, even in the way we dress and present ourselves. Our bodies are the temple of God, treat them like it.
PS: Again, I don't think the hat is a big deal...

I started attending a large non-denominational church after coming from an episcopal church background and one of our worship leaders wears a hat occasionally. At first it was weird, but I have grown to offer my heart in worship and not focus on petty things such as looks. If I find it is distracting me, I just close my eyes and focus on the lyrics and then I find the true meaning of worship. The Apostle Paul reminds us that we will all have our pet beliefs but the Holy Spirit will conform us.

I was there at Passion and there was nothing distracting about the way he lead worship, his hat included. I don't think that anyone who was there remembers anything besides the awesome move of God that we all felt. I still remember that time I had in that place and I want to relive it everyday. I am in the military and I am actually deploying this coming Monday and I will tell you that I am at the worst I have ever been in my walk with Christ. I haven't prayed in months maybe even over a year.

You've made a common legalistic biblical interpretation error. When it refers to not causing your brother to stumble, it means not causing him to do something he feels is morally wrong... for example pressuring him to drink because you feel it's ok even though he doesnt. The fact that you find the hat distracting isn't causing you to stumble. The mere fact that you don't like it does not mean that he's mandated to change... only if it were leading you into sin would that be the case. .

Let's not judge one another, but let us never call evil: good, or good: evil for the sake of "unity." There are places where minor doctrinal differences are fine between people, like the previous comments about Charlie Hall wearing a hat. But we must never call evil good. Just because someone says they're a christian doesn't mean that they are.

I'm not sure where markchanggz is coming from, but I can see his point about stumbling blocks. If a female praise singer was leading worship dressed in a micromini skirt, a tube top, etc., that would be a stumbling block to the men in the audience, regardless of what she was saying and/or how much they loved God. Because they're men. So what people ministry wear is important to their outreach. However, nothing is revealing or inappropriate about Charlies outfit so its not a prob in this case :)

Ever heard of "judge not lest ye be judged"? Im traditional-ish, but still I have learned that we CANNOT judge another person's worship. That's for the Lord to decide. If Charlie, or anyone for that matter, is doing something that isn't kosher, then it will be handled in an ultimate and eternal manner. His appearance may be odd, but there was once a man who "had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him". He was "weird" for his time..wasnt he?

NO! they are freely worshiping God with their hands lifted high and nothing holding them back... Charlie did an excellent job in bringing the people into worship...

I don't understand why you would say something when he's free worshipping in the beginning. And what would be the requirements for him to be a worship leader? Is it because he plays in a band? Or the clothes he wears?
The fact that he slowed down a super fast, power song and made it slow, intimate like this would seem to say he was not interested in being a "rock star".
Have you ever led worship and just had the Spirit move through you and use you in amazing ways? This is what i see here.

I was just expressing my feeling, fairy. When i watch this charlie guy lead worship, it feels very different compare to ppl like Darlene Zschech. There's nothing atypical to have this feeling. He has this funny beard, strange cloth, and this interesting hat. The way he sings and move also makes me feel strange. He looked like a star&celebrity rather than a worship leader. It's just too stylish and not touching at all. I don't feel any atmosphere of worship. sorry, this is how i felt.

That's good you were touched. But "worshipping" isn't about being touched but rather touching the one who has created and saved you. And the thing is, Charlie is able to reach a generation of young people that many in the modern church ignore. Don't discount him or the work he is doing just by how he dresses. This attitude is why many people hate church because they are frowned upon because of who they are. Let the Holy Spirit work on Charlie and his "outrageous" clothing.

Says whom? Church tradition? Years and years of people in suits saying, "This is how it has to be". In fact, in the Bible didn't the Jewish people when they prayed have a prayer covering - as in covering their head?
Don't judge him by the way he dresses or acts. I have seen Darlene Zschech live twice and one could say she is just as much of a performer or celebrity as you are accusing and judging Charlie.
Passing out opinions as judgement is a scary thing. Only Christ really knows our hearts

ultimately, if you are so worried about the dress of a worship leader, you are the one missing out on the point of worship, not the charlie, nor any of the other people i have named.
worship isn't about the people leading it conforming to a stereotypical identity- it's about praising the God of the entire universe, and if a hat and a goatee is distracting you so much from worshiping our Creator, there is a problem that isn't the leader's fault..

i think its a valid point about getting in front of people and trying to help them worship in the best way that you can because that is our job as worship leaders but you have to also remember that no matter how much we try we cant please everyone

I agree with those who say it's the heart that God searches out. Aren't we all worshipers of Christ? Charlie is no different then those seated around him. I had a chance to meet him about a month ago. He is totally in love with God as I'm sure we all are. We must fix our eyes on our King, not on the worshipers.. with love. gman4jzus.

I've never seen someone lead worship with a hat on. I don't know how I feel about that. But I think I like the slow version better.

I agree but wearing hats in church isn't widely accepted as "proper" or whatever and people may be distracted because the leader is wearing a hat and they are against that when they should be worshipping, and as a worship leader I think it is a responsibility to try to keep the focus on worship.

I agree with you, brokemusician. Worship leaders should keep the focus on worship, but I also think that the worshipers should as well. It isn't really about the worshipers after all...it is about God. And if we aren't choosing to worship because someone is wearing a hat, well, I think the rocks will do a better job than us.

I agree with you also. But I don't see any benefits from wearing a hat while leading, only possible non-benefits. But there is a certain point where you must just say, ya know what, its not that big of a deal so I hope they can get over it and worship!

brokemusician,,,try this, close your eyes and imagine yourself in the presence of the Holy One. Now, sing the words of praise to Jesus, "Into marvelous light I'm running". No with all your heart worship the Lord because he will meet you. God uses the heart of men, not what they wear. Worship will still go on with or without a hat. with love, gman4jzus.

Someone wearing a hat wouldn't distract me from worshipping. But when leading a congregation you have to do your best to help everyone worship. Its the same with song choice, if your playing songs no one in the congregation wants to sing. Youre doing a bad job keeping the congregation in unity and worship. Its the same with clothes to a certain extent. Being a worship leader is more than getting on stage and singing to God. But at passion I doubt its a problem.

I kinda see where your coming from, but hat or not its worship. Its weird I wear a hat while leading worship in the youth service, but if im in the main service worshiping i don't wear a hat. Its not because its manditory or distracting. I do it out of respect for the older folks, and older people. Idk why I just think its a respect issue for the people, but Hat or not i dont think Jesus cares one bit. David Worshiped in his underwear!hahahaha see! worship is worship.

For starters that is not a church it is an arena. Where he led worship to a lot of college kids 18-25. I don't think they minded to much. God just wants praise hat or no hat. Look at the people in this video. They look like their worshiping to me. Charlie's clothing shouldn't stop people from worship. If it does then maybe they have a problem they need to think about. If someone can't be lead in worship because the man wears a hat. Sorry that seems a little silly and prideful to me.

well technically it's not slower; you could sync this with a "normal" version and they'd match well. But it is half time, which makes it feel slower.
