When I was 11, I played my little league ball at McComb's Dam Park, which was next door to Yankee Stadium and is now the site of the new Yankee stadium. Roger Maris was one of the friendliest of the players to us kids, and Pepper played him really quite close to reality. The only difference is Barry looks friendlier. Roger had a permanent sneer even when he was being nice and I think a lot of people thought he was giving them attitude. He gave plenty to the press, but not to the kids.

I was an special ability extra in this movie since I was an active duty Marine at the time. This Berry Pepper fella was a complete dick to anyone who was'nt a main actor. He would later go on to talk about what an honor it was to act with actual combat vets. Those same vets that he treated like crap if they came within a 10 ft radius of him. Screw this guy!

I bought the book before I ever saw the movie version and I highly recommend it. :) For time purposes, they didn't include the stories of the other soldiers mentioned in the book. All I can say is that it's funny, sad and informative. Jamie Bell's character died, how shall I put it, "horribly"... it's shocking how a human being can do that to another human being really... :(

I just thought the first time i saw Saving Private Ryan on the big screen that his performance was unbelieveable and that was his break through performance, but he really has not grown from it. He did 61 which i thought was another good one leading him to being a big star but no it didn't. maybe he doesn't want that much attention.
