  • Posted a link to this thinking a few Joe fans would appreciate the lyrics. I got absolutely panned to death. This was on a forum for a singer songwriter who contributes on a regular basis.

  • Thanks for this. Meek inspired me to study recording engineering & production when I was younger. One of the greatest contributors to popular music to be sure. Shame about the speed - people didn't know better in those days. They just assumed that if you could buy it over the counter or obtain it by prescription that it had to be safe. All the Beatles took speed - and got Mr. Epstein hooked on it. Now we know that speed induces psychosis and causes all sorts of physical harm. Great song & video!

  • big red buttocks

  • Thanks JK!

  • Yes Buddie, well spotted!

  • Nice one Jonathan am sure uncle Joe will be lapping this one up. Sounds a bit like Chucks Brown Eyed Handsome Man though is it intentional?

  • wow! jon a great song thanks

  • The count in at the start is my beloved arranger Johnny Arthey who recently passed away (far too young). I just saw the new documentary film about Joe. I'm rather pleased that I managed to get most of my experience with Joe into the lyric of one two minute song. I think Joe would approve.

  • i like this song!

  • I think that's a young Susan George, surferJay

  • Cheers,she look young there,lovely haircut,i d love to meet she a real beauty,

    cheers Jk

  • whos the beauty at the start 0.05-0.08

  • Jonathan King is so entertaining.

  • look out for meek track every time its great written by joe meek

  • know he got bad press etc but have you heard the unreleased track everytime written by joe its a classic but i dont think it will ever get realased now want a copy let me know

  • Joe stood with one foot in the bath and stamped on the wooden floor outside it giving an echo thud to the drum effect!

  • Ahhh... wonderful :)

  • I don't get it - if you are stood in the bath - how can you stamp on the floor? Did he have one foot in the bath and one on the floor? Was this some sort of esoteric riddle to confuse me?

  • He properly stamped on the floor in the bath.

  • Oh Calamity.....

What a spectacular display of crassitude.

    Such fatuous sentimentality.

Such deathless melodic turn of phrase.

Congratulations, Kinky Boy......it's Gloriously Awful xx

(.....errr. that was your post-modern intention, wasn't it ??).

  • a very nice tribute

  • Meek shall inherrit the World.¿:~]

  • How come JK knew how Joe created the thuddy bass sound, and then let the record companies spend millions trying to re-create this sound...a golden opportunity that JK missed !

    Chris

  • Magnificent Arena special on Joe Meek from 1991 just repeated on BBC4 - terrific stuff.

  • This is actually worth listening to, the vocal might grate a bit but at least it has an interesting and infamous subject. Joe Meek, you don't hear much about him nowadays.

  • well done. all hail the KING! five well deserved stars! *****'s!

  • groovy stuff!

definately one of my jk faves, up there with 'Hey Jim'.

  • very good!!

  • This is a wonderful genuinely affectionate tribute to the Genius that was Joe Meek. Love this song and a great performance from JK. Such a shame Meek wasn't to last long in this world but his music and inspiration lives on thank goodness!

  • bobixer My name seems like a male but I'm actually female! I had a soft spot for Joe Something about a little chuckle he had. Wrote a message on a scrap of paper "Dear Jean I love you" but up in the right hand corner he'd put Trigg So it was really to Jean Trigg! A bit hard on me! My first crush aaaaah

  • Hey Bob tell us more! Joe was a genius - and, as I say in the song, really nice to me.

  • bobixer I knew Joe Meek when I lived in Newent during the war. My brother was his friend. His sister was my friend. He was always collecting old bits of radio and record players.I was about 14 at the time.We lost touch after the war when my family returned to London

  • Jeeez, this reminds me of those Benny Hill storytelling songs. haha!

  • Who is the vile pervert?

  • Excellent - it stands on its own as well as being a fine tribute! Nice to see Jonathan King can still rock out!
