Nichola is the reason why u should give money to the female pan handlers I know it sounds fucked that Im saying this but if you think about it She stopped prostituting and still has a habit to payfor she stopped the spread of aids and she is trying to get a better way of life it takes a while but the 1st step is the most important and the hardest to take. now she only has to stop the drug use and deal with her past regrets. Im proud of you Nichola I wish you well sweetheart <3
THe cops look around and ask the lady if the mess is her handy work. LOL I love when cops are down to Earth and have a sens of humor. I've met a lot of terrible cops and only a couple good ones. It is so good they did this video. I used to see all these homeless people when I worked the bars down there. It was scary. I had my car stolen about 5 years back & it ended up down there totally robbed of my stuff in the trunk.:(
I saw this documentary in the tv about ten years ago and it shocked me. Now i have two little kids, 4 and 6 years old and i´d like to show this to them when the time is right, but we´re spanish, and even though i understand most of it, i feel incapable of translating it all for them. So, if anyone finds a subtitled version or something, i´d be grateful. Thanks for sharing this...
@FlyingBroMan yeah i remember those shirts .. they came out in '97 for batman & robin that had george clooney an arnold s. ..u could buy 'em at mcdonalds
If that was america, they wouldn't be filiming her shooting up. The cops over here would have her face down on the ground in handcuffs. Right or wrong? I'm the compassionate type, and feel rehab would be best if possible not jailtime.
My compassion extends to repealing the arcaic sexist and racist drug laws that inflate the base price of the product by 400 percent.
My doctor's a drug addict and he doesn't have to live like this because he has one of his buddies write him his opiate prescriptions, why are we justified in penalizing the poor?
sometimes people gotta give these people some sympathy. You know these guys really don't wanna do drugs but they have to because once you start doing them you'll have to do them again and if you don't do them you're body won't function normally. pretty sad...
Nicola, is still living in the DTES. I see her around granville/robson pan-handling from time to time... she usually asks me for a cigarette, I always give her a couple and any change I have, something I don't do often because of how many pan handlers there are. She's such a sweetheart though, truly just a lost soul....
shit! that woman at 8:50 says she spends $10 an hour on drugs, sometimes up to $600 a day! she could actually have a nice life, paying rent etc. if she didn't waste that money
if you ask me fuck them all.. theyre all fuckin time wasters pollutin the earth with there fuckin flilth... it makes me SICK to look at these wasters and to think of all the babies and children in the world dyin of terminal illnesses and hunger n all these fuckin low life waste of spaces do it ruin theyre lives... how selfish can ya be... hope they all die... they dont deserve to be alive...
@Slidewayzs do you think people choose to be addicts???? NO they do it for many reasons but never intend to live that life style!!! they deserve to be helped just like everyone else you ignorant fuck!!! what if that was your mom or sister or brother or dad???? would you say the same then??? i dont agree with their lifestyle but THEY ARE HUMAN !! these people did not grow up with a siver spoon in their mouth(which by your ignorance it seems you might have!) your parents prob do drugs!!
@Slidewayzs they probably take all kinds of prescription drugs im sure your dad eats viagra like tic tacs(cuz anyone would need that to keep it up after seeing your mom) and she probably takes sleeping piulls and washes it down with wine or vodka too....so fuck you you ignorant fuck!!!
@Slidewayzs hahaha the funniest part about that is i bet your going to die befor they do and i bet anything your death is going to be extremely horrible
@Slidewayzs how could you say that about another human being? I know that my cousin didn't ask for it when someone he was supposed to trust went and got him a drink and slipped some bad drugs in it. He has been a vegetable ever since! Everyone has a story and if you took the time to listen and stop preaching then maybe you would realize that most of these people didn't choose drugs. No one would voluntarily choose this. You are the sick person, not these people.
I`m a heroin addict and have been for 7yrs. (I work and don`t steal to fund my habbit). The police in England are so much different than these. There is a huge drought here in the UK at the moment. Google UK heroin drought and take a look at how bad it is on some of the forums
God bless these cops, good to see the amazing efforts they're putting in, and the difference they make.
Here in Australia possession is largely not criminalised as it would be in USA, and I think that makes a big difference. There's no point locking up a junkie for having a bit of smack on him, it's just going to needlessly swell the prison system and get them criminalised.
@superstud666 yea its wrong to enable addicts but a dollar something isnt enough for a hit. she has to eat sometime.. these cops are doing more for addicts then the cops where im from. addicts are just people that took a wrong turn nobody woke up and said i wanna be an addict... your disgusting to have said that about her what if that was your mom, aunt cousin w.e. its called respect dumbass
man good job by the coppers thay r good to the sick and home less..fuck so good all the rest of the cops all over need to see this way thay r doing there jobs ..good job
Kids who have been abused and freak out used to be institutionalized. Wives too. Now it's the downtown east side.
We have to stop the abuse of children, which leads to this. And it goes on and on and on, with little recognition of the real problem. More, but not enough, done about it.
Out of these ranks will come our truth and real change.
One of the cops says, "I've turned into kind of a softie, in terms of dealing with some of these people. I was a lot more hard-nosed when I first came out and the concept seemed a lot clearer when I was just out of the academy and on the force... you know 'law-enforcement', with heavy emphasis on enforcement. Now I understand there's more to policing. You want to take ownership in it and become part of the solution, you have to look beyond going out there and enforcing the law."

Cops in Vancouver have a (partially deserved) bad reputation due to all those Taser incidents we've had in the last little while. Having said that, it's just too bad that more of our police officers aren't like the professionals featured in this documentary.
I normally dont comment on this type of stuff. But 6:30 says it all THESE COPS ARE WHAT POLICING IS ABOUT!!! These tremendous guys, with heart and character go out there and actually make an effort to HELP people instead of dominating them. Amazing, these men should be the perfect example of what policing is all about. MAD RESPECT!

Nope. I don't use any drugs. Two false assumptions that serve only to bolster you as nothing different than a social version of a 9/11 or Holocaust denier, which in my book, is worse than being an addict. Here's a line from "Lil Flip" song "My Block":
Real niggas in the kitchen cuttin' stuff
Wrap it up, zip it up after it bubble up
