I respect Rachel Maddow but I don't agree with her about the value of banning child labor. When I was nine years old, I WANTED to work at something other than delivering newspapers. I started a chain of candy and "lemonade" stands in my neighborhood (I had two locations and sold cans of Coca-Cola along with hot dogs, until my mom quit cooking them). :-)
If your job skills aren't better than what a child could do, then you don't deserve your job. Let a kid do it. Improve YOUR work skills.
@laroger0 Trouble is if you legalize child labor it would not be too long before the big big bankers and federal reserve would us them. We should just allow kids to have summer jobs if they want or sell stuff, and not to tax them. Evey kid should be allowed to sell lemonade. Cops busting kids selling lemonade is right out whack way things are going we are done.
I seriously have to go independent. I mean y cant we have a president like Kennedy. A dem who also had con ideas like"Ask not what your country do for you..." I mean comeon. Is it really that hard to hold ur conservative ideals republicans. Im a conservative and i cnat vote democrats nor republican. All of them are just IDIOTS. Every single politician!
THIS ... is unexcuseable. PERIOD. If anybody tells me a defense to this... I will only laugh.
Vote these REGRESSIVES OUT. They are no longer worthy of having the name "Republican." nor are they worthy of leading the country. They don't believe in you, they don't represent you and they sure as hell don't have your best interests at heart. They are regressives. GET OUT GET OUT NOW!.
OK, teabaggers. Let states do away child labor laws, let governors bust the unions, eliminate the EPA, eliminate Planned Parenthood, do away with Medicare/Medicaid. If you earn less than $30,000 a year, I don't see how that at all benefits you. What the hell are you people thinking??? Do you think these things are happening to help the LITTLE guy? The average American citizen? This is an obvious divide-and-conquer and unfortunately many many many many working-class people are falling for it.
"When Hitler abolished unions in Germany, stripping workers of their collective bargaining rights and their right to strike, a 25% drop in wages occurred." and it seems that fox online supported Adolf! what was fox thinking?
I had a paper route at 12yo, picked apples for Cliff Brown at 13, worked clearin' land at 14yo and at 15yo's I worked at a local lumber/harware store.. good thing this lady wasn't around when I was a kid.. don't worry about kids workin' in Maine, there isn't even work for adults.. this lady is off her goard..
@MaryJesusJoseph what's a work house..? a factory..? factories are empty now in this country, or rehabbed into offices and housin'.. what made this nation great was removed by globalist traitors.. our yoke is removed while the richmen of the world use this earth as their playground.. we have no say, we're told sit down and shut up or you'll be the subject of pain compliance.. be it physically, electronically or by some other means..
@Dewdaahman I was quoting Scrooge from Dicken's A Christmas Carol equating the hard heartedness of the Republicans with the hard heartedness of Scrooge. I'm sorry I didn't spell it out.
Now, if you want to continue this you'll have to explain to me what it is you were trying to say.
Kids size minimal wages? OKAY what heck?? So glad i don't live in maine. Now kids are being discriminated by the government up there. OMG heck out of here man.
This is completely unacceptable these republicans are so wrongly founded by bigots and demons.
Think about it if we take our kids out of school and put them to work in factories we can become much more compedative with the third world. Don't blame the republicans they are just doing what their corprate masters are telling them to do and after all we are the assholes who voted them in.
left and right are not the same thing. you really think "dont ask dont tell" would have been ended under a republican president...and who's doing all this shit? the republicans. yes, its not perfect but the left is far better the the right. Think about fox news and right evil propaganda that the spew and on the left...pbs? is the left perfect? no and are their corporate bitches on the left? yes. just look at obama but he really is a republican when a democratic title. Think about it...
Maine, what a state. Maine was the first state back in 1851 to have Prohibition. The number 1 reason for prohibition at that time was due to the anti-immigration sentiment at that time towards German immigrates and Irish Catholics. The temperance vote used these anti-immigration sentiments towards these two ethnicities at that time to get Prohibition. Since the Germans had all these breweries in the USA they were targeted mainly and Maine was the first state to show their bigotry at that time.
@schroff1968 The Temperance movement and Prohibition went hand in hand because women were getting beaten up by their drunk husbands and had very little recourse!
The Temperance movement would not have been able to get Prohibition alone if it wasn't for the Know Nothing Party anti-immigration movement in the mid 19th century in some states such as Maine. The federal law would not have happened in the early 20th century if it wasn't for the anti-German sentiment after the USA fought against the Germans in WW1. The breweries were owned and operated by German-Americans and these people as well as other German-Americans were thought to be German spies.
Take notice that their law would have made the minimum wage for people less than 20 years old to $5.25 for the first 180 days. This 180 days covers more than the days that these people are off from school over the summer months. How convenient. Greed rules these tea party people's hearts.
24 hrs a week? With the homework load kids bring home these days (next to nothing and mostly done while at school), that's not such a big deal. The below minimum wage? That's just bullshit. And Maddow's right, Day 179 rolls around and the kid gets kicked out the door and the next one brought in, meanwhile their parents can't find work. Well, maybe not in the smaller towns, smaller population means those tactics wouldn't work as well. After awhile they'd be hiring people they've already fired.
I don't get how this is supposed to help any human being. It doesn't help kids. It doesn't help adults- there aren't enough jobs for grown-ups, so adding competition doesn't help. It's just all bad. No good. Those lawmakers need to be fired.
@MzSally31 This isn't competition. If it was competition, then the minimum wage wouldn't change. This is like those gas wars way back when, only the station across the street can lower it while you're stuck at the same price. Who's gonna pay more for the same product? And in minimum wage jobs, it's not like they're too difficult or require much training, hence the low pay and high turnover.
This is all great rhetoric and all, but let's face it... Republicans are out to serve corporations 99% of the time. They're going to continue to finish off unions, go after public education to make it private and use children as slaves once again.
Democrats and Republicans are the same thing. Here is an idea Mr Maddow, why not tell the truth that all politicians suck, or that your boss doesn't pay taxes
@3GBlog Conspiracy theory??? Your the idiot, GE, MSNBC's parent company just admitted they paid no taxes last year, at all, and they made Billions of dollars. Time to grow up and stop calling people dumb names. I know the truth is scary but maybe your mommy can hold your hand to get you through it. Your a helpless fool if you think politicians aren't on the same side. I pity your ignorance. If ignorance is bliss then you must be in heaven.
@Federaljacktube4 Who the hell is arguing that GE pays taxes? It's a known fact that they don't and you know thats not what I was referring to when I called you out on your dumb conspiratorial ass. I'm referring to your crass statement that republicans and democrats are the "same thing". Also I'm not sure if you purposely referred to her as "Mr." but if you did you disgust me. NEW RULE: UNLESS YOU'RE UNIVERSITY EDUCATED...SHUT THE FUCK UP. No one gives a shit about your opinion.
@3GBlog Again, I pity you ignorance. I'm glad I disgust you, you're ignorance makes me want to vomit. All politicians are on the same side, your just to pathetic to see the facts. Your just scared, it's OK, eventually you will grow up and get some balls. Obama has done everything he talked against and everything Bush was for and more, yet you still think they are different sides. You show the level of ignorance by the things you say. I bet you call me a racist or some stupid shit like it.
@Federaljacktube4 LMAO YOUR OWN RADIO SHOW? 1. Buy a domain for $10 2. Buy hosting for $25. 3. Buy shoutcast hosting for $25. Done. For $60 anyone can have a "radio show" dipshit. That might impress the imbred retards that you surround yourself with who lack the education to challenge your bullshit but not me. Plus your site looks like shit and cost 50 cents to design and code xD Watch out, I have a feeling if you keep talking shit your servers will receive a few extra packets...
Too bad I get picked up by terrestrial radio dipshit. I am on a real radio network, not blog talk or talkshoe. And nice threat, too bad I respond to threats poorly. You threaten to "hack" my site, like I don't have security. If you really had a set of balls you would call my show and talk to my face instead of being a keyboard commando. I will be on three shows from 3pm - 9pm this Sunday, 6 hrs, feel free to call in and voice your opinion
@Federaljacktube4 saying they are the same thing is stupidity.... not saying one is good and one is bad... but it is clear who just doesn't give a shit about civil rights
@lSeKToRl@lSeKToRl So you think they aren't the same huh.... Obama is the President yet we are losing even more civil rights and going into more wars and spending more money...... but no they don't all have the same agenda.
@Federaljacktube4 Democrats and Republicans are not the same thing. If you said that 5 years ago i would agree but the Republican party has turned into an extremist group hell bent on destroying America for the good of big business.
@nek0s hahahaahahahahahaha. They are all like that dude. Obama is a Democrat and he is just as bad as Bush was, even worse in a lot of ways. They are all on the same team. And there are more than 2 political parties, again more "left right" lies. The Health-care Bill was written by the big insurance companies and the democraps passed it. Obama protects Goldman Sachs and pushes more wars. He lied about Gitmo, signs an executive order mandating indefinite detention.... do you need anymore?
@Federaljacktube4 Obama is more of a Republican then a Democrat. Look up the history of things he has passed, he is considered by a lot of people to be even more right wing then Reagan.
As for the health care bill, Do you know Republicans have been pushing that same bill, with the exception of a public option, for over 20 years ? Republican politicians are really just pissed off their name isn't on it.
@Federaljacktube4 Well Ms. Beck, I never said Democrats were good or the savior of our country. For the most part Democrats suck ass, they have no clue what they are doing and are every bit as corrupt as Republicans. The main difference is that Democrats at least want to try to make this country a better place. Republicans just want to hand it to big business to do what they wish with it.
@nek0s Beck copies from people like us not the other way around, and he distorts shit, he is a disinfo agent, he lies more than Obama and Bush combined. It is historical fact that our government is owned by the banks, voting is also rigged, we need to clean house and start over. I'm for freedom for the people not political parties. Even the founding fathers thought political parties were a bad idea.
As for rigged voting, it's one specific party that starts with an (R) that exploits our voting laws. If you don't already know, go look up the the electoral collage and how our votes are counted... or i should day not counted.
@nek0s and they killed the guys that did the programing, my point is the two party system is rigged, they all are evil. But yes, the republican side are fucked up, they like Bohemian Grove more than the "left". And they buy into the whole clash of religion bullshit which fuel endless killing and needless war.Too see how fucked up they all are research The Franklin Cover-up, I warn you it is very disturbing, but very factual.
I THINK IT'S TELLING HOW MANY OF MOXY'S SUBS ARE QUICK THROW THE TERM "CONSPIRACY THEORIST" AROUND LIKE AN INSULT CONSIDERING MOX HIMSELF TALKS ABOUT THE SAME STUFF I DO. SO IF I AM A NUT BY YOUR MEASURE THAN THE VERY CHANNEL YOU SUB TO IS NUTTY AS WELL.
Federaljacktube4, good points, and I concur almost in totality. It's my opinion that The Fringe Right is completely out of their minds, as are many of the Governors they voted into office after being bamboozled into believing that plugs were going to be pulled on their elders, death panels, Socialism, Marxism, and Communism, all being a threat brought on all of them by the so-called Kenyan Lau Tribesman, who is now our president! LMFAO, there is a difference, but that's just me.
@Federaljacktube4 Oh MR Maddow! LOL, it's funny because she's a lesbian and your comment is just a cheap bigoted jab that has nothing to do with the topic.
BTW, While I agree politicians generally suck, it wasn't the Democrats that decided child labor laws needed to go.
As bad as the Dems can be, It was the GOP that has consistently upped the level of douche baggery.
@booley I called her Mr. because she looks like a nerdy little guy and she is a sellout. I didn't refer to her sexuality at all, you assumed that is what I meant, but that is not what I said so don't try to put that crap on me. That is like saying if you don't agree with Obama you are a racist. If I didn't make some ignorant comment don't try to act like I did. I have been waiting to hear somebody bitch about that rather than actually focus on the fact that she is a sellout.
@Federaljacktube4 Yeah, that's going to recruit the intellectual muscle of Rachel Maddow for the paranoid movement which cloaks itself within the idea of liberty: Calling her a MAN! SHE NOT A REAL WOMAN HURR HURR. Good luck winning any general election with your shitty attitudes, sycophants of Jones and Paulbots.
Thanks Ohio tea baggers and Republicans. You just gave Ohio and Florida and re-election to Obama in 2012. And you just guaranteed re-election for Senator Sherrod Brown.
Obama-worshippers: Since the peace president's wars are so morally superior to Bush's, just send your kids to Libya to be sacrificed to your god the American state. Child labor problem solved.
Fuck the children. Those fuckers should be worked like everyone else. But for less money of course. So tired of libs whining about fairness.. Is it fair that my income drops from 650k to 649k? Ah, I ask you why should I lose a whole 1k so that some snotty fucker can buy him an Poopy Dog CD?
I can't help but feel like all those people protesting are just following along with what so little want them to do- step this way- you can run your mouth as much as you want. Just move outside now. Emberrasing. Don't scream when people mentally loose it and go on a killing spree. What a world gone mad!
Hearing about stuff like this makes me depressed and angry at the same time, not a good combination. We can't let this happen! Recall these jackholes! I hope they realize they're destroying the lives of all these people and their conscience's eats them from the inside out... but its unlikely any of them have any conscience...
Republicans want to dumb down the next generation so they can keep the people stupid enough to accept slave labor and be thankful to the billionaires and the millionaires.
When General Electric and other multi-nationals don't pay a damn dollar in taxes Yet Americans squabble and are fighting over union representation, child labor laws and benefits for the unemployed. These should be givens things that we want for our society. We as Americans have lost focus and our ability for disearnment . WAKE UP Democrat , Republican whats in a name when it comes down to it they both sell out the American public. Period.
Jesus Christ! Arguing with these arrogant liberals is a waste of time. I am not even a republican. Go read a fucking book, preferably on free market economics. Have fun with your liberal arts degrees dipshits, take my order when I come through the drive through
@tjohn1986 Bogus studies using poor data or incorrect methodologies. I'm not going to argue that minimum wages reduces unemployment because I don't think it does. Please PM any debate you wish to have and we can battle, I actually work full-time and go to college so a debate in the comment section isn't going to happen nor is comments the place for it.
@tjohn1986 Has anybody from the minimum-wage do-gooder camp (doing good with somebody else's money, that is) answered your question from this morning? Why not $100 an hour? Why not $1,000?
@rwalkenhorst No. They are too fucking stupid and I have given up. I don't know how hard it is to see that raising minimum wage is only going to increase unemployment. Like you said why stop at 7.25, let's raise it sky high so we can all be mega rich. God this country is going to hell!
Why are these comments so personally directed at the person that speaks facts over idealism's? Guess to hard to face the facts. The (R) party does not need anyone to ruin them they are doing a good job by proving who they are, what they stand for and who they support. It is not All The People. Proof first move secure their real interest and supporters. The facts of past and present documented. The future will be judged by merit.
What is going on when we have governors acting like fascist? Have they forgotten they are government employees? Perhaps they should work on merit, if all these cuts hurt our economy more than it is currently suffering because of a (R) congress, (R) Bush that took office without a dificit and left our country in a depression. IT is alarming facts that are documented do not have merit to some. Shame on this non-Christian party that uses God for profit and personal interest...
@hatemorethanyou999 lol, They have always been like this. The only difference is the Terrorist group, The Tea Party, has been empowered and given Republicans the illusion that Americans really want to be turned into slaves.
Most very successful people started working very early and working assists the learning process as they have the work experience to apply to their learning. Young labors like those who work on farms are some of the smartest people in our society. This is stupid......
@Jack194343 Considering how much the Republicans are de funding schools... Ya maybe, It might be better to let your kids get a full time job at the age of 7 since they wont be learning anything in school anyway.
I can't believe i just said that but if we keep going down the path of Republican ideas... what i said might actually be true. It's sad what this country is turning into. =(
@Jack194343 What I am saying is work can be educational and also rewarding. Of course slavery of children or adult is repugnant to any human being. But I have worked since I was old enough to know how to do something and obtain some compensation for my labor. No one put me to work I did it my self. Children sell koolaid in their front yards to obtain reward for their labors and learn from the experience. It is not the Sates job to tell a living human being what they can and can not do.
when i saw this title i really expected an april fools joke. what a joke indeed, dont care how old you are, gender, religion, or nationality: Equal pay for Equal work! Whats next? will it be ok to hire migrating workers as long as they can only make $5 per hr.?
As usual, Madcow does not get it. Adults don't work for minimum wage, mostly kids do.
As a business owner, when minimum wage raised, I quit hiring high school kids and started hiring older college kids. This is because teenagers are not worth hiring.
The minimum wage should be done away with and we could have full unemployment.
If a company does not pay enough, DON'T WORK THERE. It is that simple. Anyone who thinks we need a minimum wage had no understanding of basic economics.
@PizzaGod Where do you live that adults don't work for min wage?
How about if a company can't pay a living wage, GET OUT OF BUSINESS!
YOU don't understand basic economics. When an employer doesn't pay enough to live on, the public picks up the difference with pubic housing, medicaid & food stamps. That makes the business owner who has cheap labor the real welfare recipient. Until we are willing to let the working poor & kids live in the streets, that is how it works.
@gmfutube Under the Republicunts there won't be any public housing, medicaid and food stamps. The Republicans think we should hate the government: well we're getting there.
A true small business pays way to much in taxes for employees. I only have 1 actual employee and i pay slightly less in taxes then her wages. She makes about $40K per year and i pay roughly $35K in taxes, SS, Workmans Comp ect ect ect ... I am in a high risk industry so my workmans comp is almost $15k per year! I wouldn't be in business if i had to pay that much on all my employees. I am forced to pay them as sub contractors and put the tax burden on them.
@gmfutube You are right. Americans should be angry about taxes. But not because corporations don't pay them. None of us should pay them. What are we getting for our money? A war on terror that produces more terrorists. A war on drugs that produces more drug use and violence. A war on poverty that produces more poverty and dependence. I'm sure glad they didn't declare war on Oprah – we'd be getting more of her too.
Reject the state and the creeps in DC who run it. They are taking us for fools.
@rwalkenhorst "But not because corporations don't pay them. None of us should pay them."
Yeah, because we should never challenge the income disparity. Or wealth that's never recirculated back into the public. The bottom 90% shouldn't suffer when the top 10% hold 3/4 of all wealth (and future debt) in this country.
@donnyforte2 If top earners get their wealth by providing products or services so good that customers voluntarily spend their own money on them, then who is harmed? The problem is those who are wealthy because they control the coercive power of the state, and thus benefit from an involuntary transfer of wealth from the poor and middle class to themselves.
The state is the evil ingredient in crony capitalism. Hate it, not productive people who mind their own business and get rich.
@rwalkenhorst "If top earners get their wealth by providing products or services"
Workers are providing products (who get the shaft in pay). And they use public infrastructure to provide the masses.
"The state is the evil ingredient in crony capitalism."
You realize there was corporate tyranny before regulation came along, right? Just because corporations and the wealthy influence/pull the strings in Washington, doesn't make government inherently bad if in control of the right hands.
@donnyforte2 I respectfully disagree: government is inherently bad. Especially democratic government, where whore politicians will do anything to stay in office.
Workers do not get the shaft if they possess knowledge and ability that is useful. It is up to them to obtain it, and not all are smart enough or ambitious enough to be millionaires.
Yes, corporate tyranny existed before regulation – in the fairy tales taught in government schools. What do you expect the state to say about itself?
Sorry, I don’t speak blah-blah. I’m a pretty simple guy. Just say what you mean.
So maybe you can answer my earlier question: If a government-inflicted minimum wage is such a great idea, why not make it $100 an hour? Why not $1,000? There have been more than 500 comments here, and nobody on your side seems to have an answer.
@donnyforte2 So why would somebody choose to wash dishes when he could be a biomedical engineer? There is nothing insulting about recognizing that our smarts and ambitions vary. And nobody has come up with a better system than the market to sort it out.
What if we had a federal Department of Information? Wouldn’t we be outraged at government control of news? Same way with schools, only they target the most impressionable.
@donnyforte2 LOL, yeah, if only Greenspan were the worst offender.
I'll close by saying we will do well to keep in mind that with a few exceptions, the creeps in DC do not care about us. They are every bit as self-interested as the greediest fly-by-night scam artist, but with one important difference: the politicians get to use force. Assume that any time their lips are moving, they're lying. Thanks.
@rwalkenhorst I agree. Corporate taxes are a bad joke and the true small business is the one who gets stuck with the bill.
The same goes for most business regulations - they are a huge burden on true small businesses and ignored by those big enough to buy influence or simply pay fines.
I would support little regulation and NO taxes for any business where:
1. the employer actually works in the business
2. the business employees fewer than 10 -20 employees
@gmfutube Who ever said i wasn't. Cutting income taxes, and that's exactly what Republicans cut, does nothing to help small business. Republicans like to claim all these big tax breaks for business, well my business taxes keep going up. It's my income taxes that get lowered. That being said, If i were a multi million dollar company the taxes and just costs of hiring an employee wouldn't mean much but as a true small business they are outrageous and almost unsustainable.
@gmfutube you have no clue how the world works do you. I feel sorry for you. I have been a business owner for nearly 20 years and know lots of small business owners.
As a small business owner, we know we get what we pay for.
for starters, I have 10 employee's. Right now every one of them make more money than I do. And I work 90 hours per week, none of them work more than 40. I don't hire cooks that are not in school because I can't pay them enough to keep them.
One more thing, if all small business that can't afford to pay more than a minimum wage got out of business, just think about how much more unemployment there would be.
You just proved my point even more.
MINIMUM WAGE LAWS CAUSE UNEMPLOYMENT.
Minimum wage laws CAUSE inflation.
Minimum wage laws hurt those that it is intended to help.
BTW, if you are a business doing less than $550K per year, you are EXEMPT and the minimum wage laws and overtime laws do not apply.
@PizzaGod If you can't pay your employees a living wage then society has to take up the slack for these people. Or at least we do so now. Maybe you won't mind stepping over the poor, sick, women and children sleeping in the streets?
If you can't afford to pay employees, your business is not viable and you need to find a different business. Why should the tax payer subsidize your cheap labor?
If businesses making less than $550K a year are exempt, what are you bitchin about?
@gmfutube "[T]he poor, sick, women and children sleeping in the streets." Right: if it weren't for our wise rulers directing every detail of our lives from DC, we'd all be living in tents and eating dirt.
Anybody who believes we are one bit better off because of the warmongering American nanny state is a real sucker.
I'm in college right now... as a crim major. guess who most of the fuck-ups we read up on with come from. You guessed it, shitty towns/cities with low quality schools and low paying jobs. Many people actually choose going to jail/prisons for the mandatory healthcare mandated by law *no unsual punishment* and 3 meals a day. And the tax payer of course has to pay for that. This is not sustianable. We tried cutting on our end but that never works. ie... Riots*
LOL, you loose any argument because of your language.
Actually for the last few years, my minimum wage employee's make more money per hour than I do.
It started when the minimum wage laws increased my labor cost by $200 per week. That was $200 per week out of my earnings. I was only making $500 per week and had no problem living on that. It is a lot harder to earn a living on $300 per week with a family of 4.
I survive because of family (and the fact that I have zero debt.
@PizzaGod When I had employees I also paid more than I made, one of them three times today's minimum wage, and that was in 1999. Oh, and I had the privilege of paying their unemployment "insurance" too, even though they were the ones at risk of becoming unemployed. Of course government-imposed costs simply reduce the amount we’re able to pay workers, but don’t expect government-brainwashed economic illiterates to understand that.
LOL, weekly payroll is around $1.5K right now. It was over $2K before this economic crash. I had to lay off some employee's so I could pay my bills. But that is part of business.
You do realize that if I doubled my labor costs, I would have to increase the price of my pizzas by nearly 50% to be able to do it?
Those of you who support a minimum wage just don't get it. Minimum wage causes inflation.
@PizzaGod When you say, "The minimum wage should be done away with and WE COULD HAVE FULL UNEMPLOYMENT." Are you advocating that everyone should be unemployed? Is that the Republican way?
@nick10463 Rachel Maddow is a graduate of Stanford University, a Doctory of Philosophy from Oxford University, and a Rhodes Scholar. I'm afraid, Nick, she knows a thing or two more than you.
LOOK A PARIS HILTON LOOK AT LOONEY RUSH LIMPDICK HIRED eLTON jOHN TO SING TO HIS FUCKING WHORE CUNT -PISS ON THE FUCKNG RICH I PAY TAXES THEY CAN TOO FUCK THE WHORES
So, minimum-wage cheerleaders, where is your response to tjohn1986's question? Why not raise it to $100 an hour? Why not $900? Oh, I know: our wise central planners will know exactly what the right number is. Just like they know exactly which foreigners to kill next to keep us free.
There is this thing that adult humans do. They complain all day about or how life is within the status quo, but if asked to change it so it might be better, they totally freak out. Rachel Maddow is an example of this. She's smart about whining and complaining but no good at any kind of change for a solution.
@nuclide What I find so annoying is the absolute disdain for liberty, decency, and civilization the GOP politicians and their toothless minions have. A little sarcasm used in pointing that out never hurt anyone. The same cannot be said for the regressive policies. Not by a long shot.
When i began school it was probably way worse than a job. If it's a job, then you are there to work, but if it's school you are there to be indoctrinated with emotional abuse.
i'm so happy i live across the border in NH. ...maybe the kids there can cross over to a free state.

People who criticize Rachel these days for avoiding any news coverage on GE, should watch her show clip, Debunktion Junction, from April 13.
In that clip, she talked about GE ("big profits, no taxes 2010 report") & said that GE owns nearly 1/2 of NBC network & that she works for GE.

Republicans: Are there no work houses?
MaryJesusJoseph 10 months ago
@MaryJesusJoseph what's a work house..? a factory..? factories are empty now in this country, or rehabbed into offices and housin'.. what made this nation great was removed by globalist traitors.. our yoke is removed while the richmen of the world use this earth as their playground.. we have no say, we're told sit down and shut up or you'll be the subject of pain compliance.. be it physically, electronically or by some other means..
Dewdaahman 10 months ago
@Dewdaahman I was quoting Scrooge from Dicken's A Christmas Carol equating the hard heartedness of the Republicans with the hard heartedness of Scrooge. I'm sorry I didn't spell it out.
Now, if you want to continue this you'll have to explain to me what it is you were trying to say.

Since the Germans had all these breweries in the USA they were targeted mainly and Maine was the first state to show their bigotry at that time.
schroff1968 10 months ago
@schroff1968 The Temperance movement and Prohibition went hand in hand because women were getting beaten up by their drunk husbands and had very little recourse!
wtfoof 10 months ago
The Temperance movement would not have been able to get Prohibition alone if it wasn't for the Know Nothing Party anti-immigration movement in the mid 19th century in some states such as Maine. The federal law would not have happened in the early 20th century if it wasn't for the anti-German sentiment after the USA fought against the Germans in WW1. The breweries were owned and operated by German-Americans and these people as well as other German-Americans were thought to be German spies.
schroff1968 10 months ago

SadisticSenpai61 10 months ago
I don't get how this is supposed to help any human being. It doesn't help kids. It doesn't help adults- there aren't enough jobs for grown-ups, so adding competition doesn't help. It's just all bad. No good. Those lawmakers need to be fired.
MzSally31 10 months ago
@MzSally31 This isn't competition. If it was competition, then the minimum wage wouldn't change. This is like those gas wars way back when, only the station across the street can lower it while you're stuck at the same price. Who's gonna pay more for the same product? And in minimum wage jobs, it's not like they're too difficult or require much training, hence the low pay and high turnover.
SadisticSenpai61 10 months ago
"Democrats and Republicans are the same thing."
This is all great rhetoric and all, but let's face it... Republicans are out to serve corporations 99% of the time. They're going to continue to finish off unions, go after public education to make it private and use children as slaves once again.

Federaljacktube4 10 months ago
@Federaljacktube4 Obama is more of a Republican then a Democrat. Look up the history of things he has passed, he is considered by a lot of people to be even more right wing then Reagan.
As for the health care bill, Do you know Republicans have been pushing that same bill, with the exception of a public option, for over 20 years ? Republican politicians are really just pissed off their name isn't on it.

@nek0s They are all bought and paid for by the bankers. I think both parties suck.
Federaljacktube4 10 months ago
@Federaljacktube4 Well Ms. Beck, I never said Democrats were good or the savior of our country. For the most part Democrats suck ass, they have no clue what they are doing and are every bit as corrupt as Republicans. The main difference is that Democrats at least want to try to make this country a better place. Republicans just want to hand it to big business to do what they wish with it.
nek0s 10 months ago
@nek0s Beck copies from people like us not the other way around, and he distorts shit, he is a disinfo agent, he lies more than Obama and Bush combined. It is historical fact that our government is owned by the banks, voting is also rigged, we need to clean house and start over. I'm for freedom for the people not political parties. Even the founding fathers thought political parties were a bad idea.
Federaljacktube4 10 months ago
@Federaljacktube4 We agree ... yay !

@Hawkflieslow Are you making an argument for child labor? Are you suggesting that kids would be better off working in a factory than going to school?
Jack194343 10 months ago
@Jack194343 Considering how much the Republicans are de funding schools... Ya maybe, It might be better to let your kids get a full time job at the age of 7 since they wont be learning anything in school anyway.
I can't believe i just said that but if we keep going down the path of Republican ideas... what i said might actually be true. It's sad what this country is turning into. =(
nek0s 10 months ago
@Jack194343 What I am saying is work can be educational and also rewarding. Of course slavery of children or adult is repugnant to any human being. But I have worked since I was old enough to know how to do something and obtain some compensation for my labor. No one put me to work I did it my self. Children sell koolaid in their front yards to obtain reward for their labors and learn from the experience. It is not the Sates job to tell a living human being what they can and can not do.

gmfutube 10 months ago
As usual, Madcow does not get it. Adults don't work for minimum wage, mostly kids do.
As a business owner, when minimum wage raised, I quit hiring high school kids and started hiring older college kids. This is because teenagers are not worth hiring.
The minimum wage should be done away with and we could have full unemployment.
If a company does not pay enough, DON'T WORK THERE. It is that simple. Anyone who thinks we need a minimum wage had no understanding of basic economics.
PizzaGod 10 months ago
@PizzaGod Where do you live that adults don't work for min wage?
How about if a company can't pay a living wage, GET OUT OF BUSINESS!
YOU don't understand basic economics. When an employer doesn't pay enough to live on, the public picks up the difference with pubic housing, medicaid & food stamps. That makes the business owner who has cheap labor the real welfare recipient. Until we are willing to let the working poor & kids live in the streets, that is how it works.
gmfutube 10 months ago
@gmfutube Under the Republicunts there won't be any public housing, medicaid and food stamps. The Republicans think we should hate the government: well we're getting there.
Jack194343 10 months ago
@gmfutube Actually you are way off.
I am forced to pay them as sub contractors and put the tax burden on them.
nek0s 10 months ago
@nek0s Then you should be angry about taxes, not wages and angry at the BIG corporations who pay NO tax.
gmfutube 10 months ago
@gmfutube You are right. Americans should be angry about taxes. But not because corporations don't pay them. None of us should pay them. What are we getting for our money? A war on terror that produces more terrorists. A war on drugs that produces more drug use and violence. A war on poverty that produces more poverty and dependence. I'm sure glad they didn't declare war on Oprah – we'd be getting more of her too.
Reject the state and the creeps in DC who run it. They are taking us for fools.
rwalkenhorst 10 months ago
@rwalkenhorst "But not because corporations don't pay them. None of us should pay them."
Yeah, because we should never challenge the income disparity. Or wealth that's never recirculated back into the public. The bottom 90% shouldn't suffer when the top 10% hold 3/4 of all wealth (and future debt) in this country.
donnyforte2 10 months ago
@donnyforte2 If top earners get their wealth by providing products or services so good that customers voluntarily spend their own money on them, then who is harmed? The problem is those who are wealthy because they control the coercive power of the state, and thus benefit from an involuntary transfer of wealth from the poor and middle class to themselves.
The state is the evil ingredient in crony capitalism. Hate it, not productive people who mind their own business and get rich.
rwalkenhorst 10 months ago
@rwalkenhorst "If top earners get their wealth by providing products or services"
Workers are providing products (who get the shaft in pay). And they use public infrastructure to provide the masses.
"The state is the evil ingredient in crony capitalism."
You realize there was corporate tyranny before regulation came along, right? Just because corporations and the wealthy influence/pull the strings in Washington, doesn't make government inherently bad if in control of the right hands.
donnyforte2 10 months ago
@donnyforte2 I respectfully disagree: government is inherently bad. Especially democratic government, where whore politicians will do anything to stay in office.
Workers do not get the shaft if they possess knowledge and ability that is useful. It is up to them to obtain it, and not all are smart enough or ambitious enough to be millionaires.
Yes, corporate tyranny existed before regulation – in the fairy tales taught in government schools. What do you expect the state to say about itself?
rwalkenhorst 10 months ago
@rwalkenhorst "Especially democratic government"
We don't have a democracy. We have a corporatocracy.
"Workers do not get the shaft if they possess knowledge and ability"
The majority of all work to be done is "menial" in your eyes, but that doesn't mean they should live in poverty because of it.
"in the fairy tales taught in government schools"
Blah blah blah.
donnyforte2 10 months ago
@donnyforte2 Any “ocracy” is bad IMHO.
I didn’t call anybody’s work “menial.”
Sorry, I don’t speak blah-blah. I’m a pretty simple guy. Just say what you mean.
So maybe you can answer my earlier question: If a government-inflicted minimum wage is such a great idea, why not make it $100 an hour? Why not $1,000? There have been more than 500 comments here, and nobody on your side seems to have an answer.
rwalkenhorst 10 months ago
@rwalkenhorst "I didn’t call anybody’s work “menial”"
Saying people aren't smart enough or without the "ability" is implying they do menial work. Maybe you need to rephrase.
"Sorry, I don’t speak blah-blah"
Yeah, you speak in generalizations. Implying I personally taught to think this way through "government schooling".
"If a government-inflicted minimum wage is such a great idea, why not make it $100 an hour?"
It's not about making wages $100 an hour. It's about wages keeping up with inflation.

Ah, inflation. And just who causes that?
rwalkenhorst 10 months ago
@rwalkenhorst Some people have to work their way through college, but most people on this planet will end up with service jobs.
"than the market to sort it out"
Getting the bond holders out of the equation would be a big help and focus on labor over capital.
"Ah, inflation. And just who causes that?"
Alan Greenspan?
donnyforte2 10 months ago 5
@donnyforte2 LOL, yeah, if only Greenspan were the worst offender.
I'll close by saying we will do well to keep in mind that with a few exceptions, the creeps in DC do not care about us. They are every bit as self-interested as the greediest fly-by-night scam artist, but with one important difference: the politicians get to use force. Assume that any time their lips are moving, they're lying. Thanks.
rwalkenhorst 10 months ago
@rwalkenhorst Glad you got a giggle out of Greenspan. It's largely a sarcastic remark, but he's still slime.
Congress largely does not care. I'll agree on that. But our focus should be on those behind the scenes: From oil giants to Wall Street to whatever.
Ciao.
donnyforte2 10 months ago
@rwalkenhorst I agree. Corporate taxes are a bad joke and the true small business is the one who gets stuck with the bill.
The same goes for most business regulations - they are a huge burden on true small businesses and ignored by those big enough to buy influence or simply pay fines.
I would support little regulation and NO taxes for any business where:
1. the employer actually works in the business
2. the business employees fewer than 10 -20 employees
gmfutube 10 months ago
@gmfutube Who ever said i wasn't. Cutting income taxes, and that's exactly what Republicans cut, does nothing to help small business. Republicans like to claim all these big tax breaks for business, well my business taxes keep going up. It's my income taxes that get lowered. That being said, If i were a multi million dollar company the taxes and just costs of hiring an employee wouldn't mean much but as a true small business they are outrageous and almost unsustainable.
nek0s 10 months ago
@gmfutube you have no clue how the world works do you. I feel sorry for you. I have been a business owner for nearly 20 years and know lots of small business owners.
As a small business owner, we know we get what we pay for.
for starters, I have 10 employee's. Right now every one of them make more money than I do. And I work 90 hours per week, none of them work more than 40. I don't hire cooks that are not in school because I can't pay them enough to keep them.
PizzaGod 10 months ago
@gmfutube
PizzaGod 10 months ago
@PizzaGod If you can't pay your employees a living wage then society has to take up the slack for these people. Or at least we do so now. Maybe you won't mind stepping over the poor, sick, women and children sleeping in the streets?
If you can't afford to pay employees, your business is not viable and you need to find a different business. Why should the tax payer subsidize your cheap labor?
If businesses making less than $550K a year are exempt, what are you bitchin about?
i
gmfutube 10 months ago
@gmfutube
Well, none of my employee's are on government assistance for starters. 3 of them are part time employee's who have full time jobs.
The others are either in school are just live within there means. (I pay less than minimum wage to my drivers, they make there money in gas and tips)
If I close up shop, you will have 12 more people out looking for jobs.
You just don't get it do you.
MINIMUM WAGE LAWS CAUSE UNEMPLOYMENT
It is that simple, anyone who understands economics knows this
PizzaGod 10 months ago
@gmfutube "[T]he poor, sick, women and children sleeping in the streets." Right: if it weren't for our wise rulers directing every detail of our lives from DC, we'd all be living in tents and eating dirt.
Anybody who believes we are one bit better off because of the warmongering American nanny state is a real sucker.

THIS ... THIS...
We tried cutting on our end but that never works. ie... Riots*

Yeah sure, thats why I want fair pay for the workers. Obviously means Im a shill for corporations shut the fuck up you idiot.
Churchx77 10 months ago
@Churchx77
PizzaGod 10 months ago

@Churchx77
good one, I hate typos.
PizzaGod 10 months ago
@PizzaGod When I had employees I also paid more than I made, one of them three times today's minimum wage, and that was in 1999. Oh, and I had the privilege of paying their unemployment "insurance" too, even though they were the ones at risk of becoming unemployed. Of course government-imposed costs simply reduce the amount we’re able to pay workers, but don’t expect government-brainwashed economic illiterates to understand that.
rwalkenhorst 10 months ago
@PizzaGod If min wage increased your labor cost by $200/wk, what were you paying them before? $100/wk?
If you need help from family to live on $300/wk with zero debt, how do you think people making min wage or less get by?
Obviously your business is NOT viable.
gmfutube 10 months ago
@gmfutube
PizzaGod 10 months ago
@PizzaGod When you say, "The minimum wage should be done away with and WE COULD HAVE FULL UNEMPLOYMENT." Are you advocating that everyone should be unemployed? Is that the Republican way?

why do I have to keep pointing this out OReilly is from Harvard and that doesn't make him any better a person.
And this GE thing and MSNBC's rhetoric that republicans made Obama do it isn't fooling anyone.
Obama passed an executive order allowing indefinite detention in Guantanamo. How did republicans force an executive order?
People are threatened in Japan by a GE built reactor, GE got a 3.2 billion tax break, GE aviation will make substantial money in Libyan bombing.

So, minimum-wage cheerleaders, where is your response to tjohn1986's question? Why not raise it to $100 an hour? Why not $900? Oh, I know: our wise central planners will know exactly what the right number is. Just like they know exactly which foreigners to kill next to keep us free.
rwalkenhorst 10 months ago
There is this thing that adult humans do. They complain all day about or how life is within the status quo, but if asked to change it so it might be better, they totally freak out. Rachel Maddow is an example of this. She's smart about whining and complaining but no good at any kind of change for a solution.

@nuclide What I find so annoying is the absolute disdain for liberty, decency, and civilization the GOP politicians and their toothless minions have. A little sarcasm used in pointing that out never hurt anyone. The same cannot be said for the regressive policies. Not by a long shot.
