hi i want to be an architect but not sure what i should take in college should i take advanced diploma in creativity or get an apprenticeship in architecture
Yep, time management is the key in architecture school, you'll definitely end up screwing yourself over if you wait till the last minute to start working on projects... heck, i'm in the middle of trying to finish my midterm model now, lol
Yea liers, if you do what you are asked for on time, there is no need for working 2 or 3 days in a row I am an architect and doing my investigatios and homework on time kept me relax, the problem is that most of the students leave everything for the last minute and yes they spend 2 or 3 days in a row but only half of the time they work the other half they play like the guys in this video, sleep and chat and that is not considered work, but yes they like to brag about hard working.
dude im taking architecture as my major.. staying awake for 3-4 days is a usual thing in the field.. squeezing my brain with architectural philosophies and others.. sounds really boring, but im proud and enjoying my studies.. hope u others succeed in your studies.. dont stay awake too often :P cheers from indonesia
are u telling me youve stayed awake without sleep for 4 days in a row while simultaensouly studying technical material and striving to produce quality work????? because im not buying it!! after 48 hours awake you are considered "drunk" after 80 hours not only will u not be able to read and absorb material but you'll start hallucinating and showing early signs of dementia...
u and others instead of trying to come across as these hard working individuals are actually discouraging people who want to study architecture. i meet people who stay awake 2 days in a row and ive done it myself in the past but these are also the same people until the last week have no clue as to whats going on around them....so organize your time a little better . lay off tv, football or ps3 and start your projects the day its given to u.....cheers
let me begin by saying that all you guys claiming that you never sleep are spewing some serious nosense. im a second year student and have spoken to 4th year students and life aint that bad at all.
hell i stayed up for 60 hours once but that was because i left everything for the last minute. and i can tell you that the quality of work suffered immensly and your creativity diminshes as the brain doesnt functino efficiently. technically you are "drunk".
hey hekoka, stop teching people how to to come live. wel done if you do everything on time, well done for being perfect! but in real life working as an architect, you usually have only few days to come up with the developed idea and complete presentation! so if you cant brainstorm and push yourself, you have no future in architecture.
man its a universal thing XD i am scared saince am starting up as a new soon to be architect :( but i guess its worth it when u see ur project finished :) and then u fall and cry when they critic it badly XD which they will do, saudi arabia architecture :)
lol...I didn't know that all architecture students went through the same thing...last week I probably got 5 hours of sleep the whole week.....so I've been waking up only to eat this week.
i'm thinking of doing architcture...i NEED some questions answered...
can you please explain the kinds of projects we need to do (describe)? are they hard? do you need stellar imagination? and what is the presentations process like?
anyone is free to answer,...it'll help a lot, thanks
do something else. architecture is the hardest major on most campus. you need to know how to balance your personal life and studio work. oh, there is no personal life. all your time is spent in the studio. presentations are like negotiating with the devil. it totally sux. even if you have a stellar project, they will bust and break you in half. go into engineering instead or the usual business or criminal justice lol
I really recommend going to see/ speak with architects in offices (they are friendlier than u think cos they were in your shoes once) + offer to work they for free + uni professors/students. Get to know the job before making the HUGE decision of doing a degree/course.
i´m also studying architecture in my fourth semester, and have only gone one time without sleeping, but since i started school the earliest i´ve gone to bed is 3 a.m.
but the passion and adrenaline for seeing a finishing product keeps me awake
I fully understand this haha i recognize the strange look in that guy's eyes... as for the dancing.. dancing is always a good way to blow off steam =D
YES! final project about the same time in the morning, listening to shamefully cher, and miming out the words to see if people around me could guess what I was listening too!
whoo wee i can relate. i'm taking a beer day today and wow, its nice. i've been putting in 13 hr days for 2 weeks and i have 2 weeks to go until the final with many sleepless nights ahead of me :( bring on the crazy and wish me luck!
We do what we do because we are creative people, and what we do is complicated work which simply makes us who we are, "Architects" the prime leaders of design industry. we make others happy and that is why we are proud.
Blah blah blah blah, society molding and altrouistic notions of the work all the time and get no money type... we keep doing it because we love it, I will say just one thing: First year we were 110, 40 graduated the batchelor's and only 12 of us got through the Diploma, need I say more?
@Marksad14 "hardest working industry, longest tenure out of any professional career to obtain a license, and the crappiest pay. So why do I still do it. " do you really believe this? Because I'm thinking of being an architect and it kinda freaked me out
hahah i know how it feels, i am also an architecture student and iv done my fair share of sleepless nights, i think the most days i have gone without sleep is 4 and a half.
Awesome...... I just finished a 3 day project. The best part is the final presentations....when no one has slept for 3+ days, and then have to get in front of the professor and present. Lots of slurred words...lmao. Even had a kid in our class drinking a coke as he presented...lol.
The architecture student community takes a lot of s***.
Can I relate? This is our last week before deadline, we'll be dancing and singing our heads off in studio at 3am in no time... How else can you survive?
yes... architecture is pure insanity. i find that after certain time at studio, you just gotta escape orelse you just dance around, hyperventilate... or start to draw same thing over and over again. go to bed guys!!
thanks for all your comments. look at the architecture community and see its hurting. better study something else.
