  • One person has lost his or her fucking mind.

  • Top 5 most influential band that made the hard rock in the 80's possible!

  • Is it possilbe to lay in someone's arms who's a million miles away?? It's where I want to be tonight...

  • Who disliked this song?!? >:(.

  • My favorite love song in all the world. Simple, elegant, haunting. And so very unique.

  • Amazing...it's in my heart, sooo beautiful!!!

  • CHEAP TRICK--''MANDOCELLO''

  • This is for the girl who only texts...never calls...

  • dreamy o.O

  • I'd go down slowly like the rain

  • Got my daughter a bass guitar for Christmas. All I asked is that she learn this song. She is well on her way! Doing great! Love it!

  • The lyrics are great!

  • bought the first LP the week it came out back then on the strength of the producer's name, whose work I love (Jack Douglas). I wasn't disappointed! And this song just took me! The intro with the deep bass just sends me somewhere else. Saw them live for the first time not long after 'In Color' came out, and they were opening for Kansas. What a brillaint band! And they're still here today which is a tribute to their awesome talent!

  • No one should sell Cheap Trick short. They are brilliant writers and musicians. Go Rick and Company! Saw you all at UC Irvine (Calif.) back in '83 or so.

  • While waiting for my backordered Cheap Trick Sgt Pepper Live CD (I already have the DVD), I went to the library and rented a Cheap Trick CD for a trip. This song was on it as well as Ballad of TV Violence. They are both great!! Since I was by myself, I played tracks 9 & 10 over and over the whole trip! I still couldn't get enough, so I was thrilled to find it here! I wish I could see Robin, not just hear him!

  • Excellent ballad...but disagree that concrete blonde's REMAKE is better...its good but cheap trick really nailed that track down...superb recording...Another great underated CT ballad is "Worlds greatest lover"

  • Sends chills down my spine!!!!!!!!!! Who can love like that?????

  • I've got this on vinyl too, this is a great tune

  • Still my favorite song from Cheap Trick !!!

  • Unrequited love is the only "romantic" love that lasts........

  • I guess I'm feeling nostalgic

  • It can't hold a candle to the Concrete Blonde version.

  • @lordfinbar from what i can gather it is about a man who is telling his girlfriend to always remember he loves her even though he is dead...kinda like a love song from beyond the grave

  • @isolatomors1 bollocks

  • @lordfinbar you're joking.

  • @ldybby Nope, maybe trolling just a bit but I really do prefer the Concrete Blonde version better.

  • @lordfinbar lolz u must be joking

  • @lordfinbar they wrote the song they didnt

  • LOVE this song!!!! still

  • I have a guitar tuned full time just to play this whenever I want.

  • First cheap Trick song I learned to play on bass...just awesome!

  • Oh great, I finally find this song and it's all "embedding disabled by request"...thanks a lot for sharing...

  • What a gorgeous song and arrangements. Haunting and inventive!

  • Best CT song ever!

The first album is available on CD....don't need a turntable.....:)

  • @ericsrebel My absolute favorite CT song, too!!!

  • Great song. I can't believe that at 40 years old I've never heard this version. I always thought that the Concrete Blonde version was the original. If you've never heard that version, do yourself a favor and check it out. It's phenominal.

  • This song was on their first album in 1976... it received little airplay except for the last song..."Oh Candy" which was a song about a girl who hated herself so much that she committed suicide....come to think of it Mandocello is probably about the same person.... no wonder Rick didn't want to talk about it... if you are 40 now that means you were about 7 when this album came out ... it was likely long forgotten when you started listening to rock .....

  • I have to post a correction here. "Oh Candy" was about a man--a photographer friend of Ricks that he had nicknamed Candy. A relative of that person posted a comment to an "Oh Candy" posting on YouTube that the photographer committed suicide in 1975 and that was what that song was based on. So Mandocello is not about the same person, but it seems like it's about someone else he was close to who met a tragic end....

  • The photographer's name was Marshall Mintz and I think his nickname was M & M. CT went with Candy for the song because, they thought it sounded better, if it was about a female. CT said something like, MM was the first to capture the spirit of the band in a photo. He not only photographed the band, he was like a band mate. They were all friends. MM hung himself. I think the reason was, he was lonely.

  • We can go down slowly like the rain

I could leave and be with you again..oh

I could be your lover, let's pretend......

  • i cannot believe the beauty of this to this day...un...fucking...believable. Cheap trick's and anyones best momment. Just bow down to this. BEAUTIFUL! XXXX

  • This is just one great song. LOVE it...

  • Gotta love Rick's retarded 5 neck geetar. Back then every chick was damp for Robin. God I miss da good old days.

  • Not me!!! I've always been hot for Tommy! :P Love you TP!!!! X

  • thanks i've been trying to remember the name. at last. i'm seventeen again.

  • Thanks for posting this! I've had this song stuck in my head for a while now and could not remember the name of it. Gotta dig out my LPs and turntable!

  • In an interview Rick was asked who he wrote this song for...he replied, 'My Dog.' The second question should have been...please explain the line, 'I Could Be Your Lover, Let's Pretend.'

  • Rick was likely sidestepping the interviewer .. Listening to the words (what I can make out) and the ominous haunting background with modal scales, time signature changes, and an instrument from Bachs day, he was likely in a despondent emotional state when he wrote it .. I think that he wrote it for someone he wanted to be close to but she had a drug problem that prevented it and it eventually killed her... but it was personal with him and he didn't want to get into it with the interview..

  • I can't believe This is on You tube!!!! This is one of the most impressive ballads ever. I still have this on vinyl...now if I can find a turntable lol.

  • If you're serious, they sell them at Target.

  • I live in Canada, lol, but thank you for the response

  • you might try Ebay

  • Go on Ebay. You can get good turntables for some really great prices. My friend bought a Technics, which back in the day was a great one, for $12, and $8 shipping! Now THAT'S a deal my friend. You'll be able to spin your old vinyl to your heart's content! I do...I still own all my original turntables...and collected about 20+ more over the years. Nothing like the warmth of vinyl.

  • @howes1960 i got my last turntable off the top of a pile trash left out on a curb. it's a Panasonic that retailed at one time for over $300 dollars :/

  • We can go down slowly like the rain..I could leave and be with you again, oh..I could be your lover, let's pretend....

  • I only just heard this song the first time last year, and my God, it's beautiful! You don't hear stuff like this often, and I absolutely love it, probably one of the best love songs ever made.

  • In my opinion, this is the best song by Cheap Trick ever!

  • @Whiskeylady I just heard this song for the first time yesterday and I'll be listening all week!

  • @catrod24 ----Baby, you'll be listening to this for the rest of your Life...I know I will! Simply their Best!!!!! CHEAP TRICK STILL RULES!!!!!

  • just magic ..*

  • It's astonishing that CT could write such a beautifully delicate song, and it fit in on an album that was mostly quite raw and rocking.

  • Can't wait to see CT at Bethel Woods!! I hope they pull out some of their classics!

  • Stunning.

  • I could listen to this song every day of my life.....

  • Great tune...Zander's voice is wonderful here. Vintage Cheap Trick...just great!!!

  • This is my fav. song they ever did, and so many people never heard it..what a shame, It is absolutely one of the best love songs ever written!

  • I agree!

  • BEST vocalist in hard rock IMO...and my favourite bass sound and player...he is the reason i starting recording with 12 string basses...i dunno if cheap trick EVER wrote a bad saong..THE most underrated band in HISTORY...period!!!

    rock on friends

  • Long time no hear - thanks for uploading this. Awesome!!!!!

  • Awesome... etherial... and I reserve that term for only those songs that deserve it.............

  • thanku 4 posting thisssssss !!!

  • Zander's voice is mixed into such a dreamy state, it's so cool.

I prefer the more recent version of this tune with Billy Corgan because the vocals are a little less dreamy and a bit more out front.

(Zander's got one of the best voices in rock & roll!)

Cheap Trick = Total Class Act!

  • **Sigh** Thank you very much for the song..Get lost in this song every time I hear it...Cheap Trick Rules!!..Luv Ya Robin!

  • What the??! Videozine is my company....I'm Liz!!
