Flooding that night was severe as was the wind that brought down huge trees across the road from us, trees everywhere blocking the road ... we had no power for 3 days!
let's not forget about those people that lost their lives in this storm. It just shows how unpredictable nature is & that we can't be prepared for anything.
i actually work on samdon street just near those lights at sunnyside auto electrics. it was freaky and i had to leave customers cars across the road cause i couldnt moce them back into our workshop
There was an NRMA ad on for a few months afterwards with footage of the storm here with that INXS track over the top. Footage of the floods and the houses crushed by trees etc. They were going on about people they'd rehomed etc....
Samdon street, which you filmed, is right around the corner from my house. I was driving back from work and had to leave my car on Brunker road and walk through the water to get home. It was nuts!
I'd like to share my disgust to the looters who went out of there way to steal ambulance gear. Utter amazement I was in when I found out. We just had a natural disaster and people are robbing the people who most likely would of saved there lives.
Never the less great footage, I'm from Rankin Park.
No damage from where I was.
I was strandard at sandgate for a couple of ours Hectic few days!
This is scary stuff. My sister drove through that in a mirage. They must make them tough these days. Don't think my mazda 121 would have been so lucky, glad I chose to wait out the storm in the dark at the central coast. Great video clip!
I was stuck at the Broadmeadow Station, until I got sick of it and decided to wade my way to my car (which was, thankfully, 6 blocks away with the water just starting to lap at the wheels..) thats why I asked about the 8th/9th June
Baest0r: yea I agree about 'all novocastrians that i've seen on the media have taken most of it in good humour too, tragedies aside.'

oh yeah the store needs to be rebuilt completely. pub was good, but cold and we were all soaking wet, there was almost 20 of us stranded there. though yes we did have a couple of drinks to warm up haha
That astra that you can see at the beginning was helped by us (we work at the dominos on that corner) we got stranded until 2 am taking refuge in the king st hotel
Took the vid from the heart of Newy all the way up Griffith rd!

WOW! Talk about close to home.
I lived on Cleary Street, right near where you were near Samdon Street. My old house is actually on that NRMA ad.
:-(
Thanks for posting though.

Same here! there is ambulance in the video and i think that was the one stranded in the city.
It would have been one of the stupidest and low things i have heard about in a long time.
Glad to here you got through it ok!

in all honesty, all i could do was make the most of it and have a bit of laugh at some of the calamity.
i'm pretty happy to see that almost all novocastrians that i've seen on the media have taken most of it in good humour too, tragedies aside.
