True faith comes from challenging God to show you, to speak to you. Ask Jesus(who's real name is Yahshua) how come you talk to others and not to me. Outloud, with your voice which has power, then listen, if you don't hear, ask again, and again. Christians are too "clubby", "we're in, you're out...unless you do this..." Spreading the Gospel is about letting the light of Christ live in you and through setting a great example -- NOT hauranging people on sidewalks and entrapping them into "confessing" Christ. That's totally bogus and when combined with hypocrisy within the church it evicerates the meaning and purpose of "evangelism."

The problem is that most "evangelicals" think they are spreading good news, when to most people it is bad news. The essential message is: "You are doomed to hell and eternal torture from birth because God hates your sin. But, if you set aside all your beliefs (or unbeliefs), culture, family, etc., say the "Sinner's Prayer" (or some formulaic prayer) then God's wrath is assauged and you can get into heaven. Don't you see how this message is offensive to so many people?

Why do they have to start out with such a loaded question? Unfortunately the folk who implied that your actions are the direct product of your beliefs are just wrong.

I, for instance, believe creationist proselytizers are for the most part deluded, ignorant, disingeneous and doing the world a disservice. Nonethelesss, if I met one on the street I'd still treat them with respect and kindness.

As always evangelicals R confusing the word "belief" with "spiritual faith". The problem is framed in their question "is it important what YOU believe". It should be important 2 them what "they" believe. What "I" believe is none of their business. They want to enjoy, & exploit, the freedom of religion, but not respect that right in others. Aggressive evangelistic practices are intrusive & disrespectful to all of our rights to spiritual individuality. Its about conformity & group thought.

Some of us are sick to death of your evangelism. Just put it out there. We'll come to you if we're interested. And it in fact DOESN'T matter what you believe. It matters how you engage the world. There are more written records of Jesus than Caesar.I can understand that you don't think Jesus is the messiah but to say that he never existed goes against historicalrecords. All of the different times of exile for the Jews in the Old Testament are written about in different cultures, not just from the Israelites' point of view. If you're going to make a statement like this, back it up.

You are so far from the truth (though many others don't have strong foundations in Christ, the Gospel) that I can only warn you that the words in the Bible are true b/c God had a plan to send Jesus Christ. Rather than interpreting the Bible with your own thoughts, open your heart. There is evidence of God's works that cannot be experienced by knowledge, but faith. Having the right faith is a life and death issue. There are many faiths but only one true faith. It is man's duty to find the right faith through the help of the conscience. God, has convicted the world, hence every one feels a sense of guilt when they do wrong, that sense is God given.

They also corroborate each other in key details. This is why historians don't consider the Gospel of Mary to have any real value.

Yet, according to many bible scholars. The gospel of Thomas is considered, the most important document for authenticating jesus' teachings. It never made it in.

John is thought to be the least reliable of the 4 gospels. And it's the go-to book of evangelicals.

anyone can say "many scholars think" or "many scholars say". not any of the scholars who's articles ive read say that about the gospel of Thomas. which scholar (or scholarS, as you say) are you quoting? And what is their thesis based on? is it unbiased? is it justified and substantiated by adequate evidence and facts? What resources did they use? Were those resources reliable and accurate? do you know?

Thomas isn't in the canon because it has statements which don't agree with the more accepted works in the New Testament. It is certainly NOT the most important document for authenticating Jesus' teachings, since the four Gospels and historical sources already authenticate them pretty well. Why would a different source from several decades later be more trustworthy than the widespread Gospels which the early church trusted and used?

Christians who support the state of Israel financially and politically are partly to blame for Islam's attack on our nation. And Christians did cause the holocaust. Hitler was an avid bible believer who was catholic his whole life and he idolized Martin Luther.

Where in the Bible do you see a universal command to do what Hitler did to millions of jews, christians, and gypsies among others? Its funny Athiests use this argument time and time again. Even if Hitler was a believer of some sort (which he wasn't he was a nihilist) He still gave us an understanding of moral objectives... he's wrong! and we're all convicted by it (all as in humanity).. funny how that is. there must be moral objectives. And from a theological standpoint, he inverted the nature of Christ. Christ didn't even fight back for his own death, yet hitler killed millions.

The U.S. Constitution gives the freedom to believe whatever you want as long as it doesn't violate the rights of other citizens. Sept 11th happened because of faith in a god. The holocaust happened because of faith in a god. It isn't the extremists who are the problem, it is the source of their instruction (the bible and koran).

Love has caused men to cheat on their wives. Patriotism has led people to commit atrocities in other nations. Does this mean that love and patriotism are automatically wrong?
