  • How about Cygnus Vismund Cygnus by The Mars Volta? That verse drum riff is a beast.

  • Fudaladump?

  • @onelazynoob15 Actually it's "Fa-De-La-Dump" but it's all mumbo-jumbo to me anyway :)

  • My dad is going absolutely INSANE when you say you don't have to understand the technicalities of it. He's a hardcore theory believe and doesn't really like listening to it by ear.

  • @Blubber120 My point was that you don't NEED the theory to learn this song. I did not mean that music theory is therefore worthless. I studied long and hard to perfect my theory skills and it has definitely paid of for me in the long run. I teach it all the time in my private drum lessons. Thanks for your interest, mate...oh, and tell your Dad that he might like to consider herbal tea as way to relax? ;)

  • What sort of snare are you using? Meaning, how "tensely" is it set and sort of snare do you have it set to resemble? Basically, what settings are used - And I wrote it all out anyways. Oh well, I hope you catch my drift!

  • @bbkingzor It's a rubber pad so no adjustments were made. The kit I used for this video was the second pre-programmed kit on this particular model. Other than that, I can't tell you much else. Thanks for your interest though! :)

  • @DrumsTheWord I understand it's a rubber pad. For instance, on my electronic kit, I can adjust which sort of snare I want, say a Maple, Steel or Brass. I can also change the tuning and muffling. I was wondering how yours was set up, since it has a very nice crisp sound to it. Although our sets are different, it might give me an idea of the neighborhood in which to adjust my own snare to make it sound something like yours. Anyways, thanks for the help so far.

  • @bbkingzor Yeah, I wasn't sure whether you understood that it was an electric kit or not :P I don't play around with the individual drum settings on my kit at all so sorry I can't be more helpful but this isn't really my expertise. Have fun playing around with yours though and discovering a sound that you really like! :)

  • @DrumsTheWord No worries, I understand it can be pretty difficult to compare one set to another anyways, especially across brands (mine is a Roland, yours look like a Yamaha?). But you should try to customize a little, it's great fun. If you enjoy geeking around with this stuff, you can try matching your drums to a certain album and make it sound just like Lars' drums on, in this case, Ride The Lightning, if I am not mistaken. This is mostly to spice up your play-along, but it's good fun. Peace!

  • Will you be adding anything by Dream Theater?

  • @vidadrumgirl Yes, I have plans to take a look at a few of Portnoy's drum fills too! Watch this space...

  • Rob, another brilliant vid- Now PLEEEEEEEASE get cracking with a proper Metallica song pack :D

  • @ManyMoonsMal Hehe, it's on the books so watch this space! :)

  • Rob, thanks for such a great lesson!!)

  • Ugh, do not start a holy war. Lars isn't the greatest drummer technique-wise by far, but his impact on the genre and the musical industry was great. The man's a legend, and he was one of my biggest influences to take up drumming, even though as years passed, I realized what he plays is really simple, but come on, if it works for that genre and that particular song, then why not? Not everything in music has to be overly complicated. Its -music-, not an olympic competition.

  • @92JinKazama Very well put!

  • Ewwwwwwwwww Lars.

  • @crashin1 Lars is awesome.

  • @Upyour4ss

    I disagree strongly.

  • awesome!
