It depends on what part of the mainland you're referring to. I was in Denver Colorado during May of last year, the mornings were as cold as standing in the ice palace. That was in May, I can't imagine what the winters there must be like.

If you're going to be there on a Wednesday, try to go for Wednesday night. Wednesday afternoon will probably be empty. Unless you're into that type of skating. I know some figure skaters love that because the way they skate, they love all that empty space for practicing their skills. I personally like it when other people are there, it's boring when you're the only one on the ice.
Wednesday nights mostly, as Mark would say, you've got to be there and represent. Some thursdays nights, Friday mornings and the occasional Sundays. I was there last Sunday and saw Harry. He was surprised to see me because I'm not normally there at that time. Then around 2pm or so Sky and Don showed up. You should come some Wednesday night. Terri said you were there the same time as me during Christmas time, she said you two were rehearsing the Christmas show.
Pauline tries to make it on Wednesday nights, shes a bit intimidated by Mark, so she'd rather pester me. Always tries to see if she can keep up with me. When she does, I switch to backward skating and she can't follow and yells, "Stop that!" I can cut sharper corners going backwards than going forwards. Whenever I'm doing the ina bauer she asks if I'm a figure skater now. :] Oh, I video taped her last Wednesday, I asked her to say hi to you.
You mean classes on Wednesdays then you get to get in at reduced rates? Nope. People see me there all the time, so they sometimes ask at the window if I'm part of the hockey league or take classes. I guess it something they always assume.
I'm in the 'Mark and the gang at the Ice palace 3', I'm the guy in the white. We've met before, I think you mentioned something about skating cool. :]
That's the thing about filming a race, it's difficult to determine where you have to be to get the right angle and with so many skaters you don't know who you're so supposed to be focusing the camera on.
I still think girl in the figure skates "cheated" in the relay. :]
If I had toe picks, I would never ever use that to my advantage in a race. I would trip the other skater from behind, then race forward. But I would never use my toe picks to win a race. That's unethical. What am I saying, I don't race. I'm too slow. I bet Danica could beat me. But not Saori, I'd file down her toe picks first. :)
