Wow, I'm so glad to have discovered these clips and "Bill Malleys Barndance". I've since got my mittens on the album "A Drop Of The Pure", which most or all of these feature on. It's strange that he seems to be stereo micing with Dynamic mics though? Do they catch more room ambience or such?
Hello Steve, it is a wonderful music you make and of course your guitar playing is one of the best there (this is my personal opinion).
I have your book Celtic Fingerstyle guitar and the only complaint I have is the fact the the tuning are rather low for my guitar (the guitar tends to sound a little bit out of key).
Have you ever thought of going DADGAD for a change.
Thanks anyway and good look (try a Mcilroy guitar is my advice).
very well played, technique was great, i was impressed by your pinky barring at speed, but im guessing that's down to silk n steels? am i right? ur tone is excellent, ill be on the look out for a James Goodall Rosewood Standard. they have a beautiful tone, and u really brought it out
its finger style. its one of the most used acoustic styles, use in celtic music, blues, almost all traditional western music. its hardly a new discovery, and hes not even best let alone the creator.
He's got the same guitar I do! I'd recognize that bridge anywhere! 'Tis a James Goodall, and it's pretty old. Mine was built in 1985 and looks identical.
More importantly, he makes that guitar sing! Just beautiful in every way. I will definitely be looking for more of his playing.
if you want to get his beutiful tone, chuck some silk 'n steels on that, it may need a neck adjustment from the released tension, ull get almost identical tone to his, and if u noticed in the vid, he can barre with his pinky. thats just thanks to the flexibility and softness of silkspun strings, theres amazingly playable and tonal beautiful.
There is a recording of the Dobro player Andy Hall playing Green Light On the Southern/Bony On the Alps. It's very very good. So I thought I would search the songs on here....I never imagined something so fucking amazing would pop up! Awesome.
second one is amazing

NOT SILK 'N STEELS.
Cannot recall what they were, but to the extent that you think good tone is due to string typie, I disagree. I can make all strings sound bad.

Hi, GOOD EYE. I am playing a 1987 James Goodall Rosewood Standard. It's even older now.
Nice guitars James makes.

Hi, all the tab for these pieces is available thru Stefan Grossman's Guitar Workshop. You may google him and find him right away.
All the best, and happy picking.
