It's real simple. The govt should NOT have a right to interfere with our own personal decisions as long as our decisions don't harm others. IF it is going to be a free country, the govt can NOT take away our freedom of choice whether it be to play poker or anything else. Some suit in Wash has no business taking away our freedoms. They can't stop us from owning guns. We have the Bill of Rights. The 2nd Amendment allows us to Keep and Bear Arms. We have it because the Founders knew that to ensure it remained a government for and by the people, the People need to be able to forcibly regain control of the government, and thus they made owning a gun a right that even the government itself can not deny.

The amendment, which was STRICTLY ABOUT GAMING (the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) passed with a majority of both parties, The vote on the amendment had nothing to do with national security. Google "Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act" and see:
Democrats For: 115 Against: 76 Not Voting 10
Republicans For: 201 Against: 17 Not voting 12
Total For 317 Against 93 Not Voting: 22

And if you had watched the entire video, this point would be made apparent. Representative Berkley says herself: "I will vote for this bill because it addresses important national security issues." Sneaking the anti-gambling portion into an important bill like this ensures that no one will be willing to vote against the bill as a whole in order to protest a completely unrelated portion of it.

Plato193, the reason why Democrats voted in favor was because anyone who voted against would have been attacked for voting against a bill that would provide support for our troops. This is why the attachment of the anti-gambling portion was so clever: no one could attack that portion of the bill without voting against the bill as a whole. I'll try one more time. The AMENDMENT, which was JUST ABOUT GAMING and NOT ABOUT PORT SECURITY, passed with bipartisan support (a majority of Democrats AND Repbulicans) in the house. This was not a vote about national security, it was JUST ABOUT the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. Check the vote. You can google it yourself.

2. "Religious nut" sounds like an ad hominum attack which has no place in intelligent or informed debate.
3. Attaching amendments such as this to bills is done by both parties. It may be a "shaddy" move, but it isn't unusual.

I apologize for this reply, if fact the port security bill did pass with the Internet gaming provisions. As it turns out, the bill did NOT make any gambling activities illegal. It just made it possible to enforce existing laws against international online gambling. It passed a congress controlled in both houses by Democrats. The NFL was a big supporter. Google and see...
