There seriously is no better metal drummer. Kollias and Roddy may be faster, there may be other crazy blasters and super techy guys, but Karl Sanders asked Gene to play in Nile 3 times, and he could have easily done the gig, not to mention every other band Gene has been a part of and has absolutely ROCKED. All hail.

And Kollias is in a league of his own, hes got the fastes feet on earth and hes fast enough on one!, and screw Roddy!, kollias plays everything he plays but better and faster, ive seen him in clinic live twice

The most overrated guys are Portnoy, And Mangini

But if it's supposed to be all about speed I can program drum patterns on a fuckin drum machine that can do rhythms in 23/8 time signature or blastbeats at 400 bpm which no one can top (well except for an octopus). But how about taste? How about timing? feeling? The art of drumming consists of various aspects, not just one. Go watch Gene's DVD you'll get my point.

Nowadays we have kollias...yeung...Haley,Grossm­an,goulon.

if u catch my point death(band) are death metal but it's pretty different compared to actual dm.Shure drumming it's not all about blast...in fact kollias is one the most complete drummer.

Gene's performance on this album is probably the most beautiful and creative drumming i've ever heard. In my opinion, Gene is the best drummer out there. He may be not the fastest, but it's not all about speed (still he can play a lot faster than most), it's about creativity and imagination and Hoglan is the one that have both of these elements at maximum point.
