Love this version. It enjoy the fact that Maynard has restricted his high register and has fitted it in perfectly with the style of the piece. Spot on.
Man, if you can't hear MF playing to the Exit Sign in this version you gotta be deaf! What a great way to teach young players how to project. Excellent example here.
LOVE this version! We played this - and several other MF charts - in a band I was in college probably a thousand times and I STILL love it and play it frequently. RIP MF
Sweeping and Grand. And how the sound of his crystal clear, pure trumpet pierces through it all, high and proud. Exceptional. He was one of the very few human beings who was The Best There Has Ever Been at something.
i played this at the same time maybe like 0.000000001 slower than my itunes version of this.. and when maynard plays; the trumpet sounds like some type of worm hole sound...... ^_^ some vortex sound.. Get the jist? lol... Cool story.
Correct; it's the first -- and I agree best -- version, from the "return from London" album, vintage 1970, if I recall correctly. I was in college; Maynard had been off in India and England for years, and it was a great day to hear him again. That joy always comes back when I hear anything from this album. I join in the thanks for putting it up.
Thank you for placing this version up. This is the original from the MF Horn vinyl isn't it? I love any version Maynard played, but my favorite has got to be this one, with that smoky tenor sax solo starting at 1:40. Thanks again!
