Horrible review! This guy doesn't even know what car he's reviewing! This is the Typ 6R model. This model uses a new chassis that only the new Ibiza and the Audi A1 use. Lower, wider, stiffer. The Fabia (VRS or not) still uses the chassis of the previous Polo generation. The Typ9N3. Yeah, that crapy one.Totaly different car. That's why it's cheaper.duh. As for the Ibiza, it's basicaly the same car just a bit sportier, with more extra stuff for the same (or less) buck, and imo...uglier.
Best car for why? Because he's nostalgic about his old golf? That's not a reason, that's an emotion. So basically then, people who buy this over the seat, or the skoda, are basically just chumps who like to hemorrhage money, because they're all the same car just rebadged.
@PeetPeeet No, because like he said, it is incredibly satisfying to drive, just like the old Golf. It is his opinion, that's what he gets paid for, if you dont agree with it just move along.
@lostchildren I don't imagine the driving experience is that much different between the three, they're all just little shopping cars after all. However I would expect the Polo to hold its value more than the other two, so in the long run it might not cost you that extra money.
It surprises me, really, bad voice over audio and wind noise etc.. And weird exposure at times. Do the online editiion of Fifth Gear that lacking in budget? It doesn't take much.
@XitUp lighter wheels reduce rotating mass which equals 4x the weight loss like any moving part on a vehicle thus increasing acceleration, braking, handling, balance. happy? im not talking about some shitty pikey wheels.
@thebossisheretostay Fair enough, smaller/lighter wheels are ok. Although there isn't much point in buying expensive lightweight wheels for a warm, shopping hatch, IMO.
@thebossisheretostay well my whole comment was on about heating it up to make it a golf killer which does have some degree of performance, and most aftermarket wheels are light that the factory ones.
I can't wait to get my MK2 Polo. Also, this model should not be seen as £1000 more than the other cars, the other cars should be seen a s £1000 cheaper. The Saet and the Skoda are basically a VW Polo with new badges.

there is way bigger differences then that :)Vw uses newer technology then Skoda
like a newer engine and Dsg Gearbox so they are not really the same
cus all Skodas uses the older technology then Vw does
Cadnica 2 weeks ago
I'd honestly have the Skoda myself if I was buying between the 3 cars.
TheHornyHomunculus 2 months ago
@TheHornyHomunculus and you would be buying the old Polo.

do not comment and assume if u haven't even tested the polo.handling and speed is almost the same as good as the golf gti

your cant compare this and a skoda simply for the fact that a skoda is a skoda...

I dont know why but to me this Polo looks a lot more similar to the original Mk1 GTI than the Mk6 GTI.

Oh, I'd have thought the roads in Wales would have been designed long before the hot-hatch was invented... :P

In the Netherlands the Volkswagen Polo GTI 2011 is 1000,- euro's or more cheaper than a Ibiza/Fabia RS. So, easy choice!

Who is this man? He should be on the fifth gear tv program!
JamesK1998 10 months ago 4
we dont have these in america but it would suck to have your car refered to as a poor man's GTI
AlternativeUses 10 months ago
I have to disagree, a 'slightly more refined' ride isn't worth £2500
adamc260 10 months ago
yeah it's a gti so it's worth the extra cash

This car looks really good! I'd buy it over the other 2 just for that reason.

Stop comparing the GTI to the original, the old GTI is history. The new GTI are a crock off shit and they always have been.

Dermo1985 10 months ago
@Dermo1985 Why?
XitUp 10 months ago
@Dermo1985 The power band in each gear is going to be so short It'd be like driving a frigging diesel too many gears six would be more than eniough

get a vRS and spent £2.5k on suspension, rims, tyres, and an ECU remap and you have yourself a Golf GTI beater for the price of a Polo GTI
