  • Oh and to those wondering if theres a difference, i had a guitar i got off ebay, new - had a plastic truss rod running through it - I know this because when my nephew opened the door and it hit the floor, it split in half so yeah, there's a difference. I can actually feel the vibrations running through my chest when i play my dreadnought, the sound lingers longer - its akin to the difference between an mp3 and vinyl - some people just don't hear it, but if you do its a sound you never forget.

  • I sold my left nut and got a tanglewood heritage ch-sre. At around £1000 new, currently around £900 Its the best buy i've ever made. Having had it over 2 years now the feeling of disgust when some nonce picks it up off the stand in my house and says "wow can i have a go?", hasn't faded, its only gotten worse. My common response is something like: "get your grubby mitts off my baby you f*cking retard", though sometimes it gets worse. Buy a good guitar - the money you spend will save your soul.

  • i have to sell my 2 kidneys to buy one of those!

  • is there really a big difference in the playability of a good guitar and guitar made of plywood? i mean, if its really easier to play guitar made of solid woods? because I can't do harmonics on my guitar. or if its not about the guitar, then what's wrong with what i do? thanks!

  • Did he say what make or model it is? You also need very straight neck and good action for sweet guitar.

  • Thanks for this informative demo.

  • Obviously some people (at least the 11 people that thumbuped Ginnas' comment and Ginna) don't know that solid tops are ALL 2 pieces. The phrase "solid top" is used by people in reference to the fact that they're not laminate wood tops (like plywood and particle board for cheap guitars). It's crazy that the more informed comment by Musiclove 123 has less like thumbs than the moronic statement by Ginnas.

  • How to choose the dreadnought for you:

Go into a guitar store. Look on the label. If it says anything other than C.F. Martin, look again for a Martin. If you find a Martin, buy it.

  • @NeilFraudstrong or taylor :P

  • Taylor's are perfectly fine guitars, but when I play acoustic I love a deep, rich bass response, hence my preference for Martin. I really love the way Taylor's bring out the high tones, but it just doesn't have enough bass for me. Martin's have a better bass response with acceptable highs and great mids.

Still, you can't go wrong with a Taylor.

  • @NeilFraudstrong very true

  • Art & Lutherie i have a Blue colourd drednought the bass is great and its made in canada :D

  • @NeilFraudstrong Lol, yeah your kinda right haha. but I mean this isonly valid if we r talking a bout dreadnought. cause taylors are beter acoustic guitars in my opinion

  • Looks like that top is 2 pieces. Not a solid top.

  • it's a bookmatched top, you can't have a fully solid top or it wouldn't be strong enough to stand up to the tension of the string. Even laminate tops are bookmatched

  • @Musicislove123 I dont think people think before they speak..lol

  • @Ginnas

I thought that too, but then I watched a couple videos on how guitars were made (a bit obsessive maybe? :P ) and I found out that they do that on purpose. I don't remember why or what difference it makes, but almost every guitar you buy will be that way, even a top of the line Martin or Taylor. Good observation though.

  • @Ginnas Yes that would be a solid top. Most all solid top guitars are book matched, two pieces of solid wood matched and put together.... This goes with martins, guilds, gibson and everything else. I have seen and own some high dollar accoustics.. Next time your in a music store go in the high dollar room and look close.

  • @Ginnas Even solid tops are usually made of two pieces. Two halfs glued together, actually. Laminated tops are made of "layers" of laminated wood. It's hard to determine if a guitar has a solid top. Pictures of the top or videos aren't very helpful. You have to look at the inside and look at the grain of the wood around the soundhole, even then it can be confusing for most people (including me). The best way to know if a guitar has a solid top is to get the specs from the manufacturer...

  • @Ginnas All solid tops are split into effectively 2 pieces by a process called bookmatching. It is solid!

  • dont get your comment. He said its an acoustics with electrics. most musicians call it that rather than acoustic electric or electro-acoustic
