@susanviper Ron Paul doesn't take part in the lucrative pension program. He's also never votes for congressional pay raises. He returns staff money every year to go and pay down the debt. Who else does this? It says a lot about his character and principles.

What he does propose is means testing and raising the retirement age for those 55 and younger. He also proposes letting younger people opt out.
It is a shame that seniors are pushed out the door. They have been made into a running joke--retirement homes, casinos, etc. Younger people don't get the benefit of interacting with older people very often as a result.

I have already received a notice from Social Security stating that my full retirement age to be eligible for full social security benefits has been changed from 65 to 67 since I was born in 1960. No one seems to have reported this although it happened a good while ago. When I hear the candidates talking about raising the retirement age to 67 I wonder why they don't know that it has already been done to those of us born in 1960 or later.

@rojm It's not just the taxes. The regulatory environment may impose more costs than even taxes. Oftentimes it is the large firms that are behind new and existing regulations. They create barriers to entry in most cases. It is the smaller firms and those companies that would have otherwise entered the market who get the shaft.
Interest rates are artificially low as well. Credit for capital investment comes from savings. People don't save when the Federal Reserve keeps rates too low.
The Lousiana Purchase was bought by President Jefferson who was a strict constitutionalist, like yourself, and therefore was conflicted about whether to go through with it, or not, because the constitution does not specifically give power to the federal government to purchase land. If you were in Thomas Jefferson's shoes would you have emmulated his actions, or declined the French's offer on the grounds of a strict reading of the constitution?

He is also a corporatist, not a free market man like Dr. Paul. Perry supports public-private partnerships, regulations that create barriers to entry, pay to play, and corporate welfare. Corporatism breeds corruption and is a kind of central planning.

@susanviper Ron Paul doesn't take part in the lucrative pension program. He's also never votes for congressional pay raises. He returns staff money every year to go and pay down the debt. Who else does this? It says a lot about his character and principles.

@1940Priscilla Ron Paul doesn't want to end S.S. and Medicare overnight. He certainly doesn't want to end it for the truly needy.
What he does propose is means testing and raising the retirement age for those 55 and younger. He also proposes letting younger people opt out.
It is a shame that seniors are pushed out the door. They have been made into a running joke--retirement homes, casinos, etc. Younger people don't get the benefit of interacting with older people very often as a result.

Vermont has repeatedly flirted with secession. Why not? It doesn't mean that you have to go to war with the U.S. government.
I think a loose confederation of states is best. The main purpose of joining a confederation is for trade and defense reasons. Those should be the main functions of a central government.

I have already received a notice from Social Security stating that my full retirement age to be eligible for full social security benefits has been changed from 65 to 67 since I was born in 1960. No one seems to have reported this although it happened a good while ago. When I hear the candidates talking about raising the retirement age to 67 I wonder why they don't know that it has already been done to those of us born in 1960 or later.

@rojm It's not just the taxes. The regulatory environment may impose more costs than even taxes. Oftentimes it is the large firms that are behind new and existing regulations. They create barriers to entry in most cases. It is the smaller firms and those companies that would have otherwise entered the market who get the shaft.
Interest rates are artificially low as well. Credit for capital investment comes from savings. People don't save when the Federal Reserve keeps rates too low.

I have great respect for Jefferson, Madison, and Grover Cleveland. They took their oath to the Constitution very seriously. Having said that, Madison did resort to fiat paper currency during the War of 1812. Nothing can be more clear than the federal government couldn't issue paper currency.

The reason that labor and capital are fleeing is that the U.S. is hostile to savings, which finances credit for capital investment, entrepreneurs, and capital. Production taxes need to be eliminated. Once elected, provide us a specific dollar amount you expect to cut out of the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 budgets and where you would expect the majority of these cuts to come from?

If we could pay off the debt with Gold then we would still be able to take our dollars to the banks, and trade them for precious metals.

There IS a problem with submitting a text question. The boxes (fields) are blank.
It does not tell you what info you are supposed to type in. I had to guess which
boxes were what. After about 10 tries I got lucky and got my question submitted.
