Ever heard of the 1999, Purple Rain and Sign O The Times album? Those albums got more praise than anything Madge did during the 80s. The only albums that got more praise in the 80s than Prince albums were MJ albums and for obvious reasons. The media made MJ and Prince rivals, it was them before anyone else in the 80s including Madge.

Madonna's albums in the 80s were not respected with the exception of Like A Prayer in 1989. The vast majority of her sales came from teenage girls anyway. MJ and Prince got respect and praise critically as well as commercially, and both are regarded as the top 2 artists of the 80s. And BTW, the Purple Rain album was bigger than anything Madge did in the 80s.

Maybe in America Prince had more memorable Hits but Where i live i don't Know any of those songs besides Purple rain because it was covered on a Karaoke show here. Ever heard of the 1999, Purple Rain and Sign O The Times album? Those albums got more praise than anything Madge did during the 80s. The only albums that got more praise in the 80s than Prince albums were MJ albums and for obvious reasons. The media made MJ and Prince rivals, it was them before anyone else in the 80s including Madge.

Madonna's albums in the 80s were not respected with the exception of Like A Prayer in 1989. The vast majority of her sales came from teenage girls anyway. MJ and Prince got respect and praise critically as well as commercially, and both are regarded as the top 2 artists of the 80s. And BTW, the Purple Rain album was bigger than anything Madge did in the 80s.

Exactly! Madonna didn't receive the same praise as Prince or MJ. You just made my point. I said, Prince received more praise than Madge due to the respect he got as an artist. Madge wasn't hailed as an artist in the 80s, she was basically the Katy Perry of her time. Not one to be respected.

Most music fans would say no. From what I've read and seen, Prince gets more respect from contemporaries than Madge does. Madge is the bigger pop star, Prince is the more respected artist. That was my point, he gets more praise and respect than Madge.

No one was even thinking about Madge's 80s music until Gaga copied, Express Yourself on her song Born This Way. So as I've said before, Prince was the biggest music star of the 80s not named Michael Jackson. Respect along with popularity made him better and more revered than Madonna.

If you watch any interview with people who knew mj personally, they all describe him in the same way, "highly intelligent" a thirst for knowledge, and VERY well read. he had over 10,000 books in his library, his bodyguards said that they would learn something new every day when they were around him. also, listen to his phone interviews, his vocab is impressive.
