  • Quick question... Why do you have to have your knees slighty bent? Ive been doing this for a while WITHOUT it bent & seemed to be working just fine?

  • @WestSideFreedom you have to keep your knees slighty bent otherwise you risk knee ligament injuries

  • @lewiesgirl94 It definitely works...I do it for five-six days per week. Anyway don't do to many reps if you are a beginner, because it will give you cramps and they hurt like hell. Also, cycling is very good if you want to develop your leg muscles.

  • @rbfowler09 how many times in a day? It would be better to explain everything to me through inbox :P I tried this for the first time today, but only did it 20 times (going up and down) once.... so ya help :P

  • @lewiesgirl94 A set of 20 reps per day is ok for the first week. My advice is to increase the number of reps by 5-10 every week, depending on your condition. Don't do this exercise more than once a day and don't forget to rest at least one day per week. After you reach, let's say 100 reps per day, you should use some weights to do it or do it using just one leg. For example, I do 100 reps on my left leg and 100 on my right.

  • This really works.I do it almost everyday and i got amazing results...

  • I used to have a personal trainer that liked to make me do this exercise. The next day, I could barely walk! So after that horrible experience, in the next lesson, I told my trainer that I wanted to skip this part because I knew the same thing would still happen. He kind of pushed me and wanted to make me do it. I was smart enough to tell him no and skip that part. The trainer did not get it. He did not believe that I could barely walk the next day. How could I walk on campus or at work?!

  • The exercise willbe much more effective if you stand not on ground but on some books or stairs so that your heel wouldn't touch anything. You can also use dumbbells

  • I never work out my calf, but i do work out my legs and EVERY other part of my body. Is it bad??

  • Guys if this is easy for you i suggested doing it either holding weights, or on one leg, i do it 15 reps 3 sets a gym instructor recommended them to me

  • @325cool dont not count reps, your calves are so use to beening used throughout the day by walking or just moving that they wont really respond to a set of 10-15 reps they will just think your walkin up stairs or something. What i do is, just go till it burns/i cant do one more. I have seen great gains in my calves by doing soo.

  • @stalzar thx. i know wat you mean. when i was twelve i tried to do sit ups for a smaller waist but then it wasnt so effective so i tried jogging. jogging really helped for my belly but not my calves so quickly, how ironic

  • @princessgailx hey im 14 too but im a guy and when i came across this video i looked at my calve muscles and noticed my calve muscles were big the only thing i do is play soccer that is a very affective way. i hope i helped you :D

  • haha i already do these when i was in track in 7nth grade i had the biggest calves including the eighth graders thats why i was the fastest miler and sprinter

  • If you have a leg press machine at school......try doing sets of 30 of 500-600 pounds.......you feel the burn instantly. And it makes ur calfs strong as hell trust me.

  • Doing them without weights will give you endurance and tone them, you need weights for size and strength though.

  • I'm doing 4 sets of 100 and if bothered, a bit more every 2 days

  • These are a lot more succesful with some weight. If you happen to find the machine put some 5,10s, whatever weight you are comfortable with on both sides and they will get bigger quicker.

  • oh my god they hurt...i did a similar exercise at the gym. There is a machine, you put your shoulders below a pad and do that motion except come down more for more extention. You start off fine, pumping them out until, you hit this burn. Do about 3 sets, doing as many as you can until they burn pretty bad. Mine hurt for a good 3-4 days. A little ice, some heat. and a painkiller or two will do the trick if they hurt really bad.

  • go do some weighted calf raises if u go to a gym do weighted and if ur at home and u have weights 20-30s will prolly do just use those and do one legged raises and that other thing that works for me is jump rope

    rember your musle will always grow with the hard contraction LIGHT contraction is toneing and makes musle slim

  • do them over your stairs and do them untill you legs feel like there on fire, once they feel this way do as many as you can while they are burning, in order to get great calves you really have to beat them up.

  • one more thing, since youre probably not using any weight, do one leg at a time, so like use t he rails on your stairs to balance yourself then to one at a time. Depends, for me I work on my legs once a week HARD at the gym along with other exercises for about 2 hours, if youre doing just the calf raise do them every 2 days. make sure you do alot of reps because calves can be really stubborn. running helps a crap load to

    working out gives you a shock to your body and your supposed to just relax the day after you exercise for the muscle to grow
