I think that in all aspects of film making this easily matches anything produced by the GPO Film Unit. A shame about the quality of reproduction but better that than not get to see it at all!
@MK55A I think you'll find that this is Manchester London Road (Piccadilly). The shed is Longsight. Why would the LMS make a promotional film with one of their engines in a LNER shed? If you look in part 2 at the blackboard where the engines are allocated to trains 6170 is allocated to Euston and the above destinations are Buxton, Stoke etc.
@4chipp Hello, I know where the loction of the shed is, but thank you for putting it right, I was just meaning to say, that Holbeck is the Top Shed (Not Longsight or as everybody puts, King Cross) it is just a bit of banter amongst us railway men)

@MK55A Thats ok don't worry too much about it. The reference to the bar boy is interesting as only the LMS had this grade. Bar Boy then cleaner then passed cleaner then Fireman then Passed Fireman and then Driver. I was the last "passed Man" on the London Midland Region, Passed in 1983 made Driver 1990. I even survived the train crew concept intact.
this realy reminds me of my days on the footplate between 1960 to 1965. steam. a wonderfull time of my life. engine cleaner and fireman.would never change.
I once read about a locomotive buffered-up to a train with a fair amount of pressure showing 'on the clock', but whose fire had been thrown out. A couple of hundred yards up the track and with the gauge reading plummeting, the fireman takes his first look through the firebox door, at the 'fire' ... only to discover the awful truth!
this is an absolutely brilliant video, pity the film is a bit dark and shaky in places but with its age it can' be helped, it's still great nonetheless, it was a dirty job, but almost everybody who loved railways loved doing the job, that was the main thing, doing the job, thanks for posting these videos
6170 British Legion had been the high pressure engine Fury. She was reboilered and effectively became the first rebuilt Royal Scot.

I often wondered how they started the fire in an engine - I presume it was not with old newspaper and chopped firewood as we did at home!
